  • Recently, it is the well-known that there are some kinds of problem the waste concrete generated while repairing, reinforcing and dismantling of structures in the domestic and overseas. In this paper, various tests were performed about the use of the recycled concrete fine aggregate for the materials of high quality and structural concrete. And also, in order to improve structural performance of the concrete structure the steel frame was under overcrowded arrangement of steel bar. Consequently, it was be necessary the Self-Consolidating Concrete(SCC) that can fill the concrete into the work-form corner which has become overcrowded arrangement of steel bar without any other vibration. The purpose of this study is related to the properties of Self-Consolidating Concrete(SCC) according to mixing ratio of recycled concrete fine aggregate.

  • This study is to develop a strengthening method for RC slab bridges and rigid-frame bridges with external prestressing. In this study, we design the slab specimen that have a strengthening of the DB-13 and set up the longitudinal tendons placed on both side of slab strengthens the whole bridge, and lateral tendons placed under the slab strengthens the middle of slab, and conveys the load at middle slab to both sides. Structural analysis for the tensile force for strengthening were analysed and we know that displacement and strain was improved from this test. This method has no upward roof work, so it is very convenient for installing. And no spaces under the slab are need, so it is good for shallow slabs which has less space inder the slab.

  • Nowadays, remodeling cases for some apartment like Hyundai through the support of government are reported. Conventionally, balcony and aisle are extended for additional private area or balcony which is supported by new frame is extended. In extension work at site, dowel bar is conventionally inserted in old concrete slab for connection with old and new slab, however, an examination for structural safety is rarely performed prior to construction, if ever, vertical load is only considered for structural analysis. When conventionally connected structures are exposed to earthquake, the old and new structures have individual earthquake behavior with different mode, which may lead the elimination of resistance to earthquake in new structures. As of this reason, new detailing connection system which can have light weight and sufficient ductility performance is developed for application to domestic extension works. Additionally, user manual and specification are also developed for fertilization of application for the developed technology.

  • Recently, an irregular-shaped super tall building has been increased, aiming toward landmarks of cityscape. However, the complex floor plan derived from an irregular shape requires considerable resources including time, cost, and effort to meet complex structural framework. Based on the motivation, the study proposes a table-form system that is variable slab form appropriate to an irregular shaped floor through improving limitations of an existing table-form system. The variable table-form is expected to reduce construction resources and improve constructability on an irregular floor plan of super tall buildings as well.

  • In today's construction, there has been an increase in the construction of high-rise buildings due to the need to maximize land usage. Framework affects not only the entire construction duration and cost, but also subsequency construction activities such as electrical, mechanical, and finishing works. Especially, proper formwork is a influential factor of productivity in the framwork of reinforced concrete construction. To that reason, a table form of system form is more frequently used than conventional form. However, an initial cost of the table form is high and a reused table form needs for workers to repair damaged table forms. Therefore, the goal of this study is to introduce euro-unit table form. The results from the application of euro-unit table form to high-rise residentia building construction are as follows : (1) The cost of producing table form reduced by 16%, and (2) The time of producing table form was slumped by 35%, and (3) The labor force needed for form work declined 21%.

  • Formwork is a temporary structure that supports its weight and that of fresh concrete as well as construction live loads. Scaffoling is a temporary frame used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes, although it can be made out of other materials. Bamboo is still used in some Asian countries like China. The purpose of a working scaffold is to provide a safe place of work with safe access suitable for the work being done. In construction site, steel pipes are usually used as scaffolds. In this study, scaffolding systems which is changed according to sleeper and joist space were measured by buckling test. Buckling load of respective scaffolding system was analyzed by structural analysis program(MIDAS). Buckling load of scaffold with/without wall connection and footboard was got by test and structural analysis. According to these results,we know that scaffolding system of case 3 is suitable. Buckling load of scaffold with wall connection is higher than without wall connection. So wall connection is important in scaffoling systems. Footboard in the scaffolding systems is not effective against promotion of buckling load. Finally, the present study results will be used to design scaffolding systems safely in the construction sites.

  • Vulnerability studies on the existing building stock require that a large number of buildings is analyzed to obtain statistically significant evaluations of the seismic performance. Therefore, analytical evaluation methods need to be based on simplified methodologies of analysis which can afford the treatment of a large building population with a reasonable computational effort. Simplified Pushover-Based Earthquake Loss Assessment approach (SP-BELA), where a simplified methodology to identify the structural capacity of the building through the definition of a pushover curve is adopted, was developed on these bases. Main objective of the research work presented in this paper is to validate the simplified methodology implemented in SP-BELA against the results of more sophisticated nonlinear dynamic analyses (NLDAs). The comparison is performed for RC buildings designed only to vertical loads, representative of the "as built" in Italy and in Mediterranean countries with a building stock very similar to the Italian one. In NLDAs the non linear and degrading behaviour, typical of the structures under consideration when subjected to high seismic loads, is evaluated using models able to capture, with adequate accuracy, the non linear behaviour of RC structural elements taking into account stiffness degradation, strength deterioration, and pinching effect. Results show when simplified analyses are in good agreement with NLDAs. As a consequence, unsatisfactory results from simplified analysis are pointed out to address their current applicability limits.

  • It is important to estimate the optimal construction cost at the early stage of the project. In this regard, conceptual cost estimate is an important factor for estimate optimal construction cost. However, domestic conceptual cost estimate are only used as cost per unit area according to the building type, and it's accuracy is not high. Hence, the purpose of this study is to calculate the approximate quantity and cost for reinforcing bars, concrete, and formwork by presenting a regression formula based on the total floor area of the common work items in the frame work. In order to verify the accuracy and validity of the regression formula presented in this study, a comparative analysis was performed by applying the regression formula and the traditional approximate quantity take-off method to real cases. As a result, the estimated error rate of the traditional method was -102~+55%, and exceeded the estimated conceptual cost estimate accuracy range of -50~+100% suggested by AACE(American Association of Cost Engineering). On the other hand, the error rate of the regression formula method presented in this study was -6.4~+11.62%. This can be used not only for conceptual cost estimate range of accuracy, but also for detailed estimates. However, it is necessary to analyze the factors that affect the unit price as well as quantity in order to calculate the appropriate cost.

  • Precast concrete structures are erected from individual prefabricated components, which are assembled on-site using different types of connections. In the present design of these structures, beam-to-column connections are assumed pin jointed. Bolted billet beam to-column connections have been used in the precast concrete industry for many years. They have many advantages over other jointing methods in component production, quality control, transportation and assembly. However, there is currently limited information concerning their detailed structural behaviour under vertical loadings. The experimental work has involved the determination of moment-relative rotation relationships for semi-rigid precast concrete connections in full-scale connection tests. The study reported in this paper was undertaken to clarify the behaviour of such connections under symmetrical vertical loadings. A series of full-scale tests was performed on sample column for which the column geometry and bolt arrangements conformed to successful commercial practice. Proprietary hollow core floor slabs were tied to the beams by 2T25 tensile reinforcing bars, which also provide the in-plane continuity across the connections. The contribution of the floor strength and stiffness to the flexural capacity of the joint is currently neglected in the design process for precast concrete frames. The flexural strength of the connections in the double-sided tests was at least 0.93 times the predicted moment of resistance of the composite beam and slab. The secant stiffness of the connections ranged from 0.94 to 1.94 times the flexural stiffness of the attached beam. In general, the double-sided connections were found to be more suited to a semi-rigid design approach than the single sided ones. The behaviour of double sided bolted billet connection test results are presented in this paper. The behaviour of single sided bolted billet connection test results is the subject of another paper.

  • The configuration of an open ground floor (pilotis) is a common and very critical irregularity observed in multistory reinforced concrete frame structures. The characteristics and the geometrical formation of the beams of the first story proved to be a critical parameter for the overall seismic behavior of this type of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures. In this work the combination of open ground floor (pilotis) morphology with very strong perimetrical beams at the level of the first story is studied. The observation of the seismic damages and the in situ measurements of the fundamental period of four buildings with this morphology and Π-shaped plan view are presented herein. Further analytical results of a pilotis type Π-shaped RC structure are also included in the study. From the measurements and the analytical results yield that the open ground floor configuration greatly influences the fundamental period whereas this morphology in combination with strong beams can lead to severe local shear damages in the columns of the ground floor. The structural damage was limited in the columns of the ground floor and yet based on the changes of the in situ measured fundamental period the damaged level is assessed as DI=88%. Furthermore, due to the Π-shape of the plan view the tendency of the parts of the building to move independently strongly influences the distribution of the damages over the ground floor vertical elements.
