  • In this study, the influence of specific surface area of cement, substitution ratio of gypsum anhydrite on the physical properties of concrete were investigated by measurements of slump, air content and compressive strength. The results showed that reducing the specific surface area of cement under 3200$\textrm{cm}^2$/g and using 20% of gypsum anhydrite were desirable to prevent the decrease in workability and strength of concrete in summer season.

  • To avoid premature damage to the connection joints of a conventional precast concrete shear wall, a new precast concrete shear wall system (NPSW) based on a plastic damage relocation design concept was proposed. Five specimens, including one monolithic cast-in-place concrete shear wall (MSW) as a reference and four NPSWs with different connection details (TNPSW, INPSW, HNPSW, and TNPSW-N), were designed and tested by lateral low-cyclic loading. To accurately assess the damage relocation effect and quantify the damage and deformation, digital image correlation (DIC) and conventional data acquisition methods were used in the experimental program. The concrete cracking development, crack area ratio, maximum residual crack width, curvature of the wall panel, lateral displacement, and deformed shapes of the specimens were investigated. The results showed that the plastic damage relocation design concept was effective; the initial cracking occurred at the bottom of the precast shear wall panel (middle section) of the proposed NPSWs. The test results indicated that the crack area ratio and the maximum residual crack width of the NPSWs were less than those of the MSW. The NPSWs were deformed continuously; significant distortions did not occur in their connection regions, demonstrating the merits of the proposed NPSWs. The curvatures of the middle sections of the NPSWs were lower than that of the MSW after a drift ratio of 0.5%. Among the NPSWs, HNPSW demonstrated the best performance, as its crack area ratio, concrete damage, and maximum residual crack width were the lowest.

  • This paper deals with the damage assessment of the concrete beam using Damage-area concept and the modulus of elasticity reduction of the beam was evaluated. Simply supported concrete beams were loaded at the mid-span. When the displacements from the tests were increased more than $10\%$ of the initial values, flexural cracks occured. Judging from the observed cracks, damaged area of the beams were assumed and the modulus of elasticity reduction using the smeared-cracking concept was estimated to minimize the error between the test results and analytical results. Main parameters for the assessment were height of the crack area, length of the crack area, position of the crack area and the modulus of elastic reduction ratio. In each stage, damaged elements and their stiffness reduction were estimated to minimized the error.

  • In this report, the physical and chemical properties of Che-ju aggregates were stedued, and the properties of concrete using 5 types combinations of Che-ju aggreagtes were compared with those of concrete using Dag-jeon area aggreagtes. As a result of the properties of Che-ju aggregates are very different with Dae-jeon area aggregates in many aspects. Especially, entrained air content of aggregate is over 1.5% so that the freezing & thawing resistance of concrete was caused in decrease. And the texture properties of Che-ju aggregates and a little content of the entrained air in mortar increase bonding stress between mortar and aggregate, as a result in improving the compressive strength of concrete. Meanwhile, the relationship between cement water ratio(C/W) and 28days compressive strength of concrete(F28) is derived from the stastical regression using experimental data as $F_{28} = -99 + 276 *($(C/W), so this eqation is useful for mix-design of concrete in Che-ju area.

  • A method to determine the fracture energy of concrete is investigated. The fracture energy may be calculated from the area under the complete load-deflection curve which can be obtained from a stable three-point bend test. Several series of concrete beams have been tested. The Present experimental study indicates that the fracture energy decreases as the initial notch-to-beam depth ratio increases Some problems to be observed to employ the three-point bend method are discussed. The appropriate ratio of initial notch-to-beam depth to determine the fracture energy of concrete is found to be 0.5. It is also found that the influence of the self-weight of a beam to the fracture energy is very small A simple and accurate formula to predict the fracture energy of concrete is proposed.

  • This research estimated the physical. mechanical characteristic and the character of sound absorption according to target void ratio of porous concrete and the mixing ratio of recycled aggregate for the valid utilization of recycled aggregate using waste concrete and sound reduction out of a road, a railway, a residential street, and a downtown area. As a result of the test, compressive strength tended to be a radical strength fall when target void ratio was $25\%$ and contents of recycled aggregate exceeded over $50\%$. Also, the character of sound absorption of porous concrete which used recycled aggregate using waste concrete was the most excellent when target void ratio was $25\%$, and the influence by contents of recycled aggregate was trivial. Therefore, when the strength and the character of sound absorption of porous concrete are considered, it is proved valid that proper target void ratio was $25\%$ and contents of recycled aggregate using waste concrete was $50\%$ or so.

  • Concrete Filled steel Tube pipe structure is a rational type of structure that maximizes performance by combining the strong points of steel frame and concrete. In the structure, the confining effect of steel pipes increases the bearing power of infilled concrete and the strengthening of local bucking of steel pipes by infilled concrete increases the bearing power of members. and these result in the reduction of cross-sectional area and high transformation capacity. Moreover. the structure is economically efficient and widely applicable that it is used from super-high buildings to residential, business and apartment buildings. It enables the construction of multi-story buildings with long spans using columns of small cross-sectional area. In case of diaphragm, however, it is difficult to confirm the compactness of the closed inside of steel pipes. The present study examined the properties of super-high strength concrete over 80MPa by comparing it with 40MPa concrete through heat conductivity and length change tests based on a mixture ratio satisfying the mixture goal presented in the guideline for the design and construction of concrete-filled steel pipe structure. and evaluated the performance of super-high strength concrete according to the shape and size of the aperture ratio of diaphragm.

  • In this study, optimal design of reinforced concrete piers under seismic load is numerically investigated. Object function is the area of the concreate-section. Design variables are the total area of reinforcement and concrete-section dimension(Circular section diameter). Constraints of the design strength of the column, longitudinal reinforcement ratio and lower and upper bounds on the design variables are imposed. The reinforcement concrete column is analysed and designed by the Ultimated Strength Design method and load combination involving dead, live, wind and seismic load is used. For numerical optimization, ADS(Garret N, Vanderplaats_ routine is used. From the result of numerical examples, the concrete-section dimension was reduced, but longitudinal reinforcement was not changed. The results show that confinement reinforcement was reduced and confinement reinforcement spacing is increased. The higher strength of reinforcement used, the more concrete-section area was reduced.

  • Recently, structure performance is maximized by using high strength concrete. In design of structure, concrete need combination with reinforcement, but use of common strength reinforcement make member complex bar placement, so high strength concrete members require increased strength reinforcement. If common strength reinforcement replaced by equal tension area of high strength reinforcement, reinforcement ratio increase and brittle failure of member may occur by material change. So, adequate upper limit of strength ratio is required to affirm ductile behavior in application of high strength reinforcement. In this study, ductility behavior was analysed by factor of reinforcement ratio, strength of concrete and reinforcement. The result indicate that ductile failure is shown under 0.35 $\rho_{b}$ in any reinforcement strength of same section and high strength concrete of 800kg/$cm^{2}$ used commonly is compatible with reinforcement of 5500kg/$cm^{2}$.

  • The penetrated chloride in concrete has different behavior with mix proportions and local exposure conditions, even in the same environments, so that it is very important to quantify surface chloride contents for durability design. As well known, the surface chloride content which is a key parameter like external loading in structural safety design increases with exposure period. In this study, concrete samples containing OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement), GGBFS (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag), and FA (Fly Ash) had been exposed to submerged, tidal, and splash area for 5 years, then the surface chloride contents changing with exposure period were evaluated. The surface chloride contents were obtained from the chloride profile based on the Fick's 2nd Law, and the regression analysis for them was performed with exponential and square root function. After exposure period of 5 years in submerged and tidal area conditions, the surface chloride content of OPC concrete increased to 6.4 kg/m3 - 7.3 kg/m3, and the surface chloride content of GGBFS concrete was evaluated as 7.3 kg/m3 - 11.5 kg/m3. In the higher replacement ratio of GGBFS, the higher surface chloride contents were evaluated. The surface chloride content in FA concrete showed a range of 6.7 kg/m3 to 9.9 kg/m3, which was the intermediate level of OPC and GGBFS concrete. In the case of splash area, the surface chloride contents in all specimens were from 0.59 kg/m3 to 0.75 kg/m3, which was the lowest of all exposure conditions. Experimental constants available for durability design of chloride ingress were derived through regression analysis over exposure period. In the concrete with GGBFS replacement ratio of 50%, the increase rate of surface chloride contents decreased rapidly as the water to binder ratio increased.
