  • This paper presents a concept on seat assignment systems. The concept is based on the assumption that customers or passengers prefer to select seats at their own choosing and allowing them to do so would fragment remaining seats. This undesirable condition may make a group of people intending to be seated together unable to find a sufficient number of consecutive seats. The concept proposed is to set aside a number of seats when the map of available seats is shown for customer's selection. A number of functions are created to allot seats to be visible for choosing according to the number and locations of the remaining seats and the number in the group of the passengers. Passengers' preferences such as window or aisle seating, front seating are taken into accounts. A primitive example of seat assignment system of a Boeing 717 aircraft, assuming the number of passengers in a group being 1, 2 or 3, is given based on the concept.

  • We introduce the concept of cyclic morphisms with respect to a morphism in the category of pairs as a generalization of the concept of cyclic maps and we use the concept to obtain certain sets of homotopy classes in the category of pairs. For these sets, we get complete or partial answers to the following questions: (1) Is the concept the most general concept in the class of all concepts of generalized Gottlieb subsets introduced by many authors until now? (2) Are they homotopy invariants in the category of pairs? (3) When do they have a group structure?.

  • An efficient 3D SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Map Building) method is developed for urban building environments using a tilted 2D LRF (Laser Range Finder), in which a 3D map is composed of perpendicular/horizontal planar polygons. While the mobile robot is moving, from the LRF scan distance data in each scan period, line segments on the scan plane are successively extracted. We propose an "expected line segment" concept for matching: to add each of these scan line segments to the most suitable line segment group for each perpendicular/horizontal planar polygon in the 3D map. After performing 2D localization to determine the pose of the mobile robot, we construct updated perpendicular/horizontal infinite planes and then determine their boundaries to obtain the perpendicular/horizontal planar polygons which constitute our 3D map. Finally, the proposed SLAM algorithm is validated via extensive simulations and experiments.

  • This study is the analytic research of items having gender gap in 6th grade students in 'National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA)'. For this problem solving, the following was investigated. First, items having gender gap were selected in NAEA for the past eight years. Then, the mathematical factors that cause gender gap were analyzed. Second, to do this the field test was developed using item concept map. Finally, after the analysis of field test result the reason of gender gap was deduced. Through this study the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning method in elementary school is expected.

  • This study is concerned with proposing a new construct named "spatial metaphor" in the field of user interface design for web. Recently, web has been recognized as an important vehicle of delivering messages and information to customers. Since both hyperlink and multimedia technology are crucial part of web, its user interface requires a new approach to enhance user's acceptance of web. In this sense, we introduced a new concept named "spatial metaphor" instead of hierarchical menus. As a theoretical basis, Davis (1986)'s TAM(Technology Acceptance Model) was used to test the statistical validity of the proposed spatial metaphor. For test web site, we developed a prototype designed by using atomic-web system and spatial metaphor. By using the prototype, we built a web-based questionnaire system so that respondents can use it directly before answering the questionnaire. To prove its statistical validity, we collected valid questionnaires and tested with LISREL. In this way, statistical validity of our proposed approach was proven.approach was proven.

  • This paper describes the development of the media art environment concept, in which the user's interaction becomes visual arts in both digital and analogue media. It describes AD-Trace, an experimental media art component that investigates the aesthetic and technological possibilities through the development of interactive media artworks that utilizes that the traces of the user's interaction. The AD-Trace consists of three design components: Analogue Trace, Digital Trace, and Interaction Metaphor to guide user interactions with user's understanding. Three artworks are proposed to demonstrate the real world applications of the concept: AD-PD(analogue digital picture diary), AD-Star (analogue digital star), and AD-Map (analogue digital map).

  • The purpose of this research is to develop system and to establish methodology for managing spatial Database in Land Management Information System(LMIS). Spatial Database which is used by a various public department such as parcel survey and registry, land use planning and Land value appraisal in local government, is composed of parcel map, topographic map and zoning map. Spatial data has been constructed and managed by various department and then hard to maintain accuracy and coinsistency. So, it is important to establish the basic data management concept that source data(ex : parcel map, topographic map, zoning map, etc.) should be managed by responsible department. at the same time, application data for bussiness (ex : individual parcel price map) must be recomposed from base map by it's own objects. This is, Spatial data management system (SDMS) should be designed, developed according to this concept for managing consistency among data, reducing construction and management cost of database. Our SDMS was developed based on Open LMIS middleware architecture using OpenGIS CORBA specification for standard interface, RUP(Rational Unified Process) for development methodology, UML(Unified Modeling Language) for system design and VisiBroker, C++, CAD system for system implementation.

  • This paper designs and implements an integrated map server to produce an integrated map. Two requirements for the proposed map server are as follows. First, the system should support a customization of metadata to meet user's requirements. The map server designed here will predefine information such as representations, regions required for client-side processing in the metadata. This will allow users easily acquire an integrated map in the required form of clients. Second, the system should be able to support not only the integration of spatial data but also their non-spatial data. Fusion service is realized by using the concept of linking. The integrated map server suggested in this paper can improve the quality of the fusion service by integrating the results of the map servers according to user's requests. Our experiments shows that the integrated map server reduces the response time in web mapping environments.

  • Previous methods to map from a FORTRAN-like specification into a systolic array were difficult to find data dependencies because the specification was expressed and executed sequentially. Data-flow graph(DFG)s show data dependencies explicitly. In this paper we show a mapping tool from a DFG specification into a systolic array. We introduce the concept of a Systolic Pattern Stream(SPS) and use that concept to derive a systolic array.
