  • With improving computing performance, various digital platforms are being developed to enable easily utilization of high-performance computing environments. EDISON 1.0 is an online simulation platform widely used in computational science and engineering education. As the research paradigm changes, the demand for developing the EDISON 1.0 platform centered on simulation into the EDISON 2.0 platform centered on data and artificial intelligence is growing. Herein, a data framework, a core module for data-centric research on EDISON 2.0 digital platform, is proposed. The proposed data framework provides the following three functions. First, it provides a data repository suitable for the data lifecycle to increase research reproducibility. Second, it provides a new data model that can integrate, manage, search, and utilize heterogeneous data to support a data-driven interdisciplinary convergence research environment. Finally, it provides an exploratory data analysis (EDA) service and data enrichment using an AI model, both developed to strengthen data reliability and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of research endeavors. Using the EDISON 2.0 data framework, researchers can conduct interdisciplinary convergence research using heterogeneous data and easily perform data pre-processing through the web-based UI. Further, it presents the opportunity to leverage the derived data obtained through AI technology to gain insights and create new research topics.

  • Modern society as an information society, a lot of information is communicated in on-line. Specially, mobile environment based on radio communication has a characteristic of flexibility compared with wire communication and is developed rapidly. However, the more mobile technology is developed the more security for sensitive information is needed. Therefore, MTM(Mobile Trusted Module) is developed and promoted by TCG(Trusted Computing Group), which is an industry standard body to enhance the security level in the mobile computing environment. MTM, hardware security module for mobile environment, offers user's privacy protection, platform integrity verification, and individual platform attestation. On the other hand, secure migration scheme is required in case secret data or key is transferred from one platform to the other platform. In this paper, we analyze migration schemes which were described in TCG standard and other papers and then propose security maintenance scheme for secret data using USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module).

  • The demand of users, who want to focus on the core functionality of their applications without having to manage complex virtual environments in the cloud environment, has created a new computing model called serverless computing. Within the serverless paradigm, resource provisioning and server administration tasks are delegated to cloud services, facilitating application development exclusively focused on program logic. Serverless computing has upgraded the utilization of cloud computing by reducing the burden on cloud service users, and it is expected to become the basic model of cloud computing in the future. A serverless platform is responsible for managing the cloud virtual environment on behalf of users, and it is also responsible for executing serverless functions that compose applications in the cloud environment. Considering the characteristics of serverless computing in which users are billed in proportion to the resources used, the efficiency of the serverless platform is a very important factor for both users and service providers. This paper aims to identify various factors that affect the performance of serverless computing and analyze the latest research trends related to it. Drawing upon the analysis, the future directions for serverless computing that address key challenges and opportunities in serverless computing are proposed.

  • In big data era, fresh data grows rapidly every day. More than 30,000 gigabytes of data are created every second and the rate is accelerating. Many organizations rely heavily on real time streaming, while big data stream computing helps them spot opportunities and risks from real time big data. Storm, one of the most common online stream computing platforms, has been used for big data stream computing, with response time ranging from milliseconds to sub-seconds. The performance of Storm plays a crucial role in different application scenarios, however, few studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of Storm. In this paper, we investigate the performance of Storm under different application scenarios. Our experimental results show that throughput and latency of Storm are greatly affected by the number of instances of each vertex in task topology, and the number of available resources in data center. The fault-tolerant mechanism of Storm works well in most big data stream computing environments. As a result, it is suggested that a dynamic topology, an elastic scheduling framework, and a memory based fault-tolerant mechanism are necessary for providing high throughput and low latency services on Storm platform.

  • Purpose: Cloud-computing technology has several advantages, including maintenance, management, accessibility, and computing power. A greenhouse-control system utilizing these advantages was developed using a private cloud-computing system. Methods: A private cloud needs a collection of servers and a suite of software tools to monitor and control cloud-computing resources. In this study, a server farm, operated by OpenStack as a cloud platform, was constructed using servers, and other network devices. Results: The greenhouse-control system was developed according to the fundamental cloud service models: infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, and software as a service. This system has four additional advantages - security, control function, public data use, and data exchange. There are several considerations that must be addressed, such as service level agreement, data ownership, security, and the differences between users. Conclusions: When the advantages are utilized and the considerations are addressed, cloud-computing technology will be beneficial for agricultural use.

  • The EDISON is a platform that supports numerical analysis for problem solving in computational science and engineering. We provide a cloud service for users, and provide an environment to access and execution of the simulation service on the web. For now, the EDISON platform provides simulation services for eight applied field on computational science engineering. Users can check the numerical analysis result by web in the computational science and engineering platform. In addition, various services such as community activity with other researchers, and the configuration of simulation environment by user 's needs can be provided. A representative service of the EDISON platform is a web-based simulation service that performs numerical analysis for problem solving of various computational science and engineering. Currently, EDISON platform provides workbench simulation service. It is the web-based simulation execution environment, and result analysis to provide simulation regardless of various personal computing resource or environment in each numerical analysis. In this paper, we build an interface for pre and post processor that can be used in conjunction with the workbench-based simulation service provided by EDISON platform. We provide a development environment with interface that is implemented by applying a pre and post processor optimized for the simulation service. According to simulation and execution are performed by linking the new workbench-based simulation service to the pre and post processor.

  • Recently, the trend of building container-based PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) is expanding. Container-based platform technology has been a core technology for realizing a PaaS. Containers have lower operating overhead than virtual machines, so hundreds or thousands of containers can be run on a single physical machine. However, recording and monitoring the storage logs for a large number of containers running in cloud computing environment occurs significant overhead. This work has identified two problems that occur when detecting a file system change event of a container running in a cloud computing environment. This work also proposes a system for container file system event detection in the environment by solving the problem. In the performance evaluation, this work performed three experiments on the performance of the proposed system. It has been experimentally proved that the proposed monitoring system has only a very small effect on the CPU, memory read and write, and disk read and write speeds of the container.

  • Computational Science and Engineering is a convergence study that understands and solves complex problems such as science, engineering, and social phenomena through modeling using computing resources. Computational science and engineering combines algorithms, computational and informatics, and infrastructure. The importance of computational science is increasing with the improvement of computer performance and the development of large data processing technology. In Korea, Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) has been developing national computational science engineering software and utilization technology by combining basic science and computing technology through EDISON project. The EDISON project builds an open EDISON platform and integrates and services information systems in seven areas of computational science and engineering (computational thermal fluids, nanophysics, computational chemistry, structural dynamics, computational design, and computational medicine). Using this, we have established a web-based curriculum to lay the groundwork for fostering scientific talent and commercializing computational science and engineering software. The purpose of this study is to derive the quality characteristic factors of computational science platform and to empirically examine the effect on user satisfaction. This paper examines how the quality characteristics of information systems, the computational science engineering platform, affect the user satisfaction by modifying the research questions according to the propensity of the computational science platform by referring to the success factors of DeLone and McLean's information system. Based on the results of this study, we will suggest strategic implications for platform improvement by searching the priority of quality characteristics of computational science platform.
