A Study on Web-Site Evaluation Factors Affecting Students' Satisfaction Level in Science Class (사용자 중심의 웹사이트 구축을 위한 주요 평가요인에 관한 실증 연구 : 과학관련 사이트를 중심으로)

  • Since the 7th National Curriculum was established, ICT has emerged as an indispensable tool for teaching a variety of subjects in K-12 education systems. This paper develops the model for explaining the factors affecting students' satisfaction level in using web contents for science class. Based on data collected from a questionnaire survey from the students who evaluated the web sites providing the information related to the science subject, the structural equation model is presented. From this model, a following conclusion is provided : credibility and understandability/motivation are the most important factors affecting the level of satisfaction, but the presentation method, the screen design as well as contents itself has indirect impact on user satisfaction through understandability/motivation. Other interesting results are also provided. This result might provide the useful guidelines for designing the web-contents for science class in high school.

A Meta-Analysis on the Effects of Educational Programming Language (교육용프로그래밍언어의 효과에 관한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of educational programming language(EPL) using the meta-analysis method. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, t-test and F-test were performed for the effect size differences between the variables. The results of the study were as follows: First, EPL turned out to be highly effective in improving learning effects. The total mean of effect size was as big as 1.01 and the value of $U_3$ was 84.38%. EPL increased the learning effect by 34.38% compared with the control group. Second, the moderator variables such as subject, publication type, and learner's school age there was no statistically significant differences. By designing the experiment nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design showed statistically significant effect size compared with single group pretest-posttest design. Third, the mean effect sizes of the dependent variables were as follows: Creativity 1.90, problem solving ability 1.25, logical thinking ability 1.18, learning motivation 0.81, and achievement 0.59. EPL showed positive effect than traditional teaching and learning method comprehensively.

  • The metropolitan and province offices of education have been enforcing the ICT application competence certification system for teachers(ACCST). But the system have been enforcing during 3years, the ratio of teachers that has been received certification of the system showed very low, and recently the number of applicant has decreased. The purpose of this study is to examine the problems of the system and to propose a method of improvement of the system. We surveyed literatures offering theoretical and empirical insights connected with this issue and derived suggestions for improvement of the system, and designed questionnaire based on the suggestions. Research data gathered from 547 Korean middle and high school teachers using questionnaire. The improvements on the certification system which can be drawn from this study should consider appropriation of incentive for teachers, introduction of certification method on individual subject, introduction of validation interval of certification, and commissioning in an external agency which has reliable the certification.

  • Recently rapid changes in the industrial environment require new talents in companies. Flipped learning is drawing attention as an effective teaching-learning method. The existing traditional lecture teaching-learning method have various problems that the dropout rates of the student is high and the creative problem solving ability is hindered. In the case of the IT engineering college, most of the major theoretical courses require prior learning of the prerequisite coursework subjects. Therefore, effective teaching-learning methods must be developed to improve student participation and academic achievement. This paper proposes the flipped learning model consisting of five sets that combine the flipped learning and practice to improve student motivation and self - directed learning. Also, this paper analyzes the learning effect by applying it to the algorithm lecture of computer engineering and presents problem and utilization plan according to the result.

  • The Systems Engineering, as a methodology for engineering and management of today's ever-growing complex system, is a comprehensive and iterative problem-solving process. The process centers on the analysis and management of the stakeholders' needs throughout the entire life-cycle of a system and searches for an optimized system architecture. There are many essential needs and requirements to be met when a system development task is carried out. Systems Engineering Management Plan(SEMP), as a specification for system development process, must be established to satisfy constraints and requirements of stakeholders successfully and to prevent cost overrun and schedule delay. SEMP defines technical management functions and comprehensive plans for managing and controlling the entire system development process, specialty engineering processes, etc. Especially. in the case of a large-scale complex system development program where various disciplinary engineering such as mechanical; electrical; electronics; control; telecommunication; material; civil engineering etc. must be synthesized, it Is essential to develop SEMP to ensure systematic and continuous process improvements for quality and to prevent cost/schedule overruns. This study will enable the process knowledge management on the subject of SEMP as a core systems engineering management effort, that is, definitely defining and continuously managing specification of development process about requirements, functions, and process realization of it using a computer-aided systems engineering software. The paper suggests a systematic SEMP development process and demonstrates a data model and schema for computer-aided systems engineering software, RDD-100, for use in the development and management of SEMP. These are being applied to the systems engineering technology development task for the next-generation high-speed railway systems in progress.

Development of Prototype and Model about the Moving Picture Searching System based on MPEG-7 and KEM (MPEG-7과 KEM 기반의 동영상 검색 시스템 모델 및 프로토타입의 개발)

  • Moving picture has become the important media in education with expanded e-learning paradigm, but Korea Educational Metadata has limitation about representing information of lots of events and objects in moving picture. Announcing the MPEG-7 specification the information of lots of events and objects in it can be presented in terms of semantic and structural description of moving pictures. In this paper moving picture searching system model that integrates two metadata specifications, such as KEM and MPEG-7, is proposed. In this model one ontology to combine two metadata specifications is designed, and the other ontology about knowledge of a subject matter is added to search efficiently in searching system. As some moving picture data from Edunet were selected and stored in our server, our prototype of searching system using MPEG-7 and KEM shows the results that we are expected.

  • When Web-based special retrieval systems for scientific field extremely restrict the expression of user's information request, the process of the information content analysis and that of the information acquisition become inconsistent. Accordingly, this study suggests the re-ranking retrieval model which reflects the content based similarity between user's inquiry terms and index words by grasping the document knowledge structure. In order to accomplish this, the former constructs a thesaurus and similarity relation matrix to provide the subject analysis mechanism and the latter propose the algorithm which establishes a search model such as query expansion in order to analyze the user's demands. Therefore, the algorithm that this study suggests as retrieval utilizing the information structure of a retrieval system can be content-based retrieval mechanism to establish a 2-step search model for the preservation of recall and improvement of accuracy which was a weak point of the previous fuzzy retrieval model.

  • Optical character recognition(OCR) might be the most plausible method in building database out of printed matters. This paper describes the points to be considered when one selects an OCR system in order to build database. Based on the considerations, we evaluated four commercial OCR systems, and chose one which shows the best recognition rate to build OCT-text database. The subject text, the KT-test collection, is a set of abstracts from proceedings of different printing quality, fonts, and formats. KT-test collection is also provided with typed text database. Recognition rate was calculated by comparing the recognition result with the typed text. No preprocessing such as learning and slant correction was applied to the recognition process in order to simulate a practical environment. The result shows 90.5% of character recognition rate over 970 abstracts. This recognition rate is still insufficient for practical use. The errors in OCR texts are different from those of manually typed texts. In this paper, we classify the errors in OCR texts for the further research.

  • Effective and efficient representation of color features of multiple video frames is an important vet challenging task for visual information management systems. This paper Proposes a Video Browsing Service(VBS) that provides both the video content retrieval and the video browsing by the real-time user interface on Web. For the scene segmentation and key frame extraction of video sequence, we proposes an efficient scene change detection method that combine the RGB color histogram with the X2 (Chi Square) histogram. Resulting key frames are linked by both physical and logical indexing. This system involves the video editing and retrieval function of a VCR's. Three elements that are the date, the need and the subject are used for video browsing. A Video Browsing Service is implemented with MySQL, PHP and JMF under Apache Web Server.

The Extraction Process of Durative Persuasive System Design Characteristics for Healthcare-related Mobile Applications

  • In the field of Human-Computer Interaction design, persuasive design has gradually been applied to the system development and design process, especially for mobile application design. However, most mobile applications have hitherto a very short using lifecycle. Especially, design features with long-term persuasive effectiveness remain to be further researched and developed. In this study, we focused on investigating and identifying the durative persuasive design characteristics through a data mining process and evaluating the durative effectiveness through a long-term observation process. Total five hundred healthcare-related mobile applications were selected from Apple iTunes Store and a mixed method was conducted to extract the most common persuasive design characteristics. Based on the results of extraction, a representative healthcare-related mobile application was selected as experimental subject. Total one hundred and twenty participants were observed during a six-months experiment and the monitoring data of app usage of all participants was collected once a week. According to the evaluation model for behavior change identification process, participants with habit formation features were proved to have a significant long-term perception level for ten persuasive design characteristics. Further interview research was performed to investigate the participant's long-term perceptions on those characteristics for the purpose of identifying the durative persuasions. The results indicated that a long-term durative effectiveness can be observed and healthcare-related apps designed with those characteristics could have durative effectiveness. This study may contribute to the improvement of future mobile application designs in user experience and durative persuasion, as well as bringing future benefits for both mobile application developers and users.
