  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of CAD (Computer Aided Design) based alpine mono-ski bucket design on disabled ski athletes' kinematic characteristics. Two national team ski athletes with LW11 disabilities (Locomotion Winter Classification) category for sit ski participated in both pre and post experiment. Both of the subjects performed 3 trials of carved turn on a ski slope under two conditions. Where, subject "A" performed pre experiment with personal bucket and post experiment with the newly developed CAD based bucket whereas, Subject "B" as control subject performed both pre and post experiment with his personal bucket. For the experiment, 24 Infrared cameras were positioned on the ski slope which covered the path of the ski turn. Also, motion capture suit with reflective markers were worn by both subjects. In the result, decrement in medial/lateral displacement of COM, anterior/posterior displacement of COM, flexion/extension angle of trunk as well as velocity losing rate of COM was observed in subject "A" when using the newly developed CAD based bucket. In contrast, no larger effect on performance was observed when using personal buckets. In conclusion, the findings obtained from the study indicated effectiveness of newly developed CAD based bucket by reducing excessive movement of hip and trunk which is an important factor to perform an effective turn.

  • Since the 7th educational renovation was established, ICT has emerged as an indispensable tool for teaching a variety of subjects in technical high schools. This paper develops the model for explaining the factors affecting the use of web contents as a mode for studying Electronic subject. Based on data collected from a questionnaire survey from the students who studied the Electronic subject using web contents, a following conclusion is provided: the perceived usefulness, ease of use and the playfulness significantly affect the level of satisfaction, but the design of contents, image, quality, attitude as well as self-efficacy only indirectly affect the satisfaction level. This result might provide the useful guidelines for designing the web-contents for technical high school students.

  • The CAI (Computer-Assisted Instruction) system for science teaching has been increasing both in quantity and in quality during the last two decades. However, science learning by computer has not played a leading role in the science teaching process. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of tutorial CAI programs according to the learner's characteristics such as sex, inquiry skills, attitudes toward science subject, logical thinking skills, achievement motivation, science content achievement in science teaching. One group pretest-posttest design was used as an experimental design. The three tutorial science CAI programs were used for thirty males and females selected in grade eight. According to the analysis of CAI achievement scores the female students showed significantly higher (P<0.05) than the male students. Also, one-way analysis of variance was used to investigate the effects of interaction between sex and achievement motivation. The significant difference on the effects of interaction between sex and achievement motivation has not found. The effects of tutorial CAI between logical thinking skills, attitudes toward science subject, inquiry skills, achievement motivation, science content achievement according to upper and lower levels were investigated by using the statistical analysis of one-way ANOVA. The results indicate that tutorial CAI might provides a good opportunities for the improvement of science achievement to the lower level students of attitudes toward science subject, inquiry skills, science content achievement.

  • This paper describes a technique for human sensibility evaluation using 10-channel EEG(electroencephalogram). The proposed method uses the linear predictor coefficients as EEG feature parameters and a neural network as sensibility pattern classifier. For subject independent system, multiple templates are stored and the most similar template can be selected. EEG signals corresponding to 4 emotions such as, relaxation, joy, sadness and anger are collected from 5 armature performers. The states of relaxation and joy are considered as positive sensibility and those of sadness and anger as negative. The classification performance using the proposed method is about 72.6%. This will be promising performance in the human sensibility evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate into the various ways that the computer technology is used for language testing. Three uses of computer technology are mentioned: 1) computer-adaptive language testing and computer-based language testing, 2) the scoring of performance-based language assessment, and 3) the development and use of psychometric tools for analyzing the scoring results. Although the various uses of computer technology could provide expanded possibilities for language testing development, the developers should be reminded that they are currently subject to indepth research which could support their validity. In this regard, the advantages and limitations of some uses of computer technology for language testing are discussed.

  • BCI(Brain-Computer Interface) is studied to control the machines with brain. In this study, an EEG(Electroencephalography) signal classification model is proposed. The model gets EEG pattern from each subject's brain and extracts characteristic features. The model discriminates the EEG patterns by using those extracted characteristic features of each subject. The proposed method classifies each pair of the given tasks and combines the results to give the final result. Four tasks such as rest, movement, mental-arithmetic calculation and point-fixing were used in the experiment. Over 90% of the trials, the model yielded successful results. The model exploits characteristic features of the subjects and the weight table that was produced after training. The analysis results of the model such as its high success rates and short processing time show that it can be used in a real-time brain-computer interface system.

  • Computational thinking is a subject that must be selected by non-major freshmen at H University, and classes are completed regardless of their major. The class content is conducted using block coding that allows easy access to programming. A survey was conducted before the start of the semester class to find out the students' interest in the subject and to help the students understand it. This study analyzes the student's survey response data so that the students' interest in the subject can be grasped at a glance.

  • This study compared the electromyographic activities and input performance of computer operators using a computer mouse and a trackball. Muscle activities were assessed at the upper trapezius (UT), middle deltoid (MD), extensor digitorum (ED), and first dorsal interosseous muscle (FDI). Twenty-six healthy subjects were recruited, and the test order was selected randomly for each subject. The task set was to click moving targets on a Windows program. The EMG amplitude was normalized using the percentage of reference voluntary contraction for UT and MD and the percentage of maximal voluntary contraction for ED and FDI. To analyze the differences in EMG activity, a paired t-test was used. UT muscle activities were significantly greater when the computer mouse was used (p<.05). FDI muscle activities were significantly greater when the trackball was used (p<.05). Using a trackball can reduce the load on the UT during computer work and help to prevent and manage work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Generating electromagnetic waves with Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) properties is a fast-growing research subject in both radio and optics. This paper describes the generation of OAM carrying waves using a circular array of rectangular planar monopole antennas. The proposed design combines simplicity, compactness, and most importantly very wideband of operating frequencies (about 20-160 GHz, bandwidth ratio about 1:8) which makes it suitable for future applications.
