  • Drivers for LED MR16 retrofit lamps need to be compatible with the dimmers and electronic transformers which originally operated with the halogen lamps to be replaced. We present a two-stage MR16 LED driver consisting of a boost converter in the first stage and a buck converter in the second stage. Our design has been analyzed in the frequency domain using simulations to demonstrate that it effectively suppresses the high-frequency components of the AC output of the electronic transformer. Experiment results with a driver prototype verify the simulation results as well as dimmability.

  • This paper presents the improvement of the boron penetration and the reverse short channel effect (RSCE) in the 130nm W/WNx/Poly-Si dual gate PMOSFET for a high performance embedded DRAM. In order to suppress the boron penetration, we studied a range in the process heat budget. It has shown that the process heat budget reduction results in suppression of the boron penetration. To suppress the RSCE, we experimented with the halo (large tilt implantation of the same type of impurities as those in the device well) implant condition near the source/drain. It has shown that the low angle of the halo implant results in the suppression of the RSCE. The experiment was supported from two-dimensional(2-D) simulation, TSUPREM4 and MEDICI.

  • This paper presents an adaptive sampling method for electrocardiogram (ECG) signal detection. First, by employing the strings matching process with compression dictionary, we recognize each segment of ECG with different characteristics. Then, based on the non-uniform sampling strategy, the sampling rate is determined adaptively. As the results of simulation indicated, our approach reconstructed the ECG signal at an optimized sampling rate with the guarantee of ECG integrity. Compared with the existing adaptive sampling technique, our approach acquires an ECG signal at a 30% lower sampling rate. Finally, the experiment exhibits its superiority in terms of energy efficiency and memory capacity performance.

  • We obtain the Bayes estimator(BE), the minimum variance unbiased estimator(MVUE) and maximun likelihood estimator(MLE) of the reliability when the distribution of the stress and the strength are Weibull with known shape parameters. The experiment is terminated before all of the items on the test have failed and the failed items are partially replaced. Performance of the three estimators for moderate size samples are compared through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Recently, UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) have been largely used to improve power souse quality as well as to protect critical loads such as computer, industrial system, medical equipment, etc, against power outage by providing clean and uninterrupted power under power supply disturbance or interruptions. But UPS is bulky because used battery. So, UPS size issue have received attention in the power electronics industry. Therefore, this paper proposed a implementation of inside of the computer power supply with UPS by the one-chip microprocessor to minimize UPS size. To verify the proposed power supply, the detail simulation and experiment results indicate that high-frequency switching and operation UPS can be achieved.

  • Holographic stereogram (HS) printing is a promising holographic technique for three-dimensional (3D) visualization of an object with accurate depth cues. In this paper, unlike the conventional rectangular hogel based HS, efficient hexagonal hogels sampling for HS printing that enhances the volumetric visualization of reconstruction while providing rapidly generated data using inverse-directed propagation (IDP) is proposed. Specifically, an array of hexagonal hogels is sampled by a computer-generated integral imaging technique using an IDP, which acquires the full information of the 3D object prior to higher volumetric 3D reconstruction. To demonstrate the proposed approach, IDP-based hexagonal hogel sampling for HS printing is implemented, and the enhanced image quality of printed holograms is verified both by numerical simulation and in an optical experiment.

  • The hybrid structural experiment decomposes a structure into independent substructures that can be tested or simulated. The substructures being tested or simulated may be distributed at different facilities of different locations, and are managed by the simulation coordinator. There exist interactions among the simulation coordinator and the substructures since they give and receive the commands and feedbacks during the experimental process. These interactions are described in this paper for an example hybrid structural experiment using the classes and objects in the Lehigh Model which is one of the data models for structural experiments. The simulation coordinator and the substructures have the objects for the interaction data files, and are linked together through the same types of the interface links. The objects for the interactions presented in this paper can be implemented in a consistent way, and be used for developing the computer system for the hybrid structural experiments.

  • This paper proposes a new fuzzy controller using variable structure control theory. In this paper, after the time-varying fuzzy sliding surface is designed, the fuzzy rules are defined based on the variable structure control theory. This design method makes the fuzzy controller design more structured and can guarantee the stability and robustness of the fuzzy controller and overcome the shortcoming of the variable structure system. Through computer simulation and experiment of nonlinear inverted pendulum system, this thesis demonstrate that system has the robustness against disturbance and modelling error, and the tracking performance of it is improved.

  • In this paper, a instantaneous speed measurement method using a three phase sinusoidal encoder is described and it's simulations are developed. The proposed method can easily detect the AC motor speed by using that the encoder is propotion to the AC motor speed. The performance of proposed method is confirmed by computer simulation and experiment results. The high accuracy of the optimum control system, AC motor speed detection is designed and proposed.

  • In this paper, a simple transmission line model for an edge-coupled patch antenna is presented. The coupled section is modeled with a lump network which represents the mutual admittance between patches and from patch to ground. Theoretical analysis of two edge-coupled patch antenna models are compared by simulation and experiment in antennas designed to operate at the 2 GHz band. The proposed model predicts the return loss of the antenna accurately.
