  • This paper is a study on data augmentation for small dataset by using deep learning. In case of training a deep learning model for recognition and classification of non-mainstream objects, there is a limit to obtaining a large amount of training data. Therefore, this paper proposes a data augmentation method using perspective transform and image synthesis. In addition, it is necessary to save the object area for all training data to detect the object area. Thus, we devised a way to augment the data and save object regions at the same time. To verify the performance of the augmented data using the proposed method, an experiment was conducted to compare classification accuracy with the augmented data by the traditional method, and transfer learning was used in model learning. As experimental results, the model trained using the proposed method showed higher accuracy than the model trained using the traditional method.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility of chemical process synthesis purely based on mathematical programming when given an objective, feed conditions, product specifications, and model equations for available process units. A method based on a state space approach is proposed, and applied to an example problem with a reactor, a heat exchanger, and a separator. The results indicate that a computer can automatically synthesize an optimal process without any heuristics or expertise in process design provided that global optimization techniques are improved to be suitable for large problems.

  • Dimensional synthesis of planar and spatial mechanisms mostly requires solution-finding, procedure for a system of polynomial equations. In case the system is nonlinear, numerical techniques like Newton-Raphson are often used. But there are no logical ways for finding all possible solutions in such iterative methods. In this paper, algebraic elimination is used to get all solutions for the synthesis of 5-SS spatial mechanism with seven prescribed positions. The proposed algorithm is more suitable for computer implementation and takes less time than existing one. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the implemented algorithm.

  • This paper describes the development and assessment of a hidden Markov model (HMM) based Tagalog speech synthesis system, where Tagalog is the most widely spoken indigenous language of the Philippines. Several aspects of the design process are discussed here. In order to build the synthesizer a speech database is recorded and phonetically segmented. The constructed speech corpus contains approximately 89 minutes of Tagalog speech organized in 596 spoken utterances. Furthermore, contextual information is determined. The quality of the synthesized speech is assessed by subjective tests employing 25 native Tagalog speakers as respondents. Experimental results show that the new system is able to obtain a 3.29 MOS which indicates that the developed system is able to produce highly intelligible neutral Tagalog speech with stable quality even when a small amount of speech data is used for HMM training.

  • In this paper, we propose a new view synthesis technique for coding of multi-view color and depth data in arbitrary camera arrangements. We treat each camera position as a 3-D point in world coordinates and build clusters of those vertices. Color and depth data within a cluster are gathered into one camera position using a hierarchical representation based on the concept of layered depth image (LDI). Since one camera can cover only a limited viewing range, we set multiple reference cameras so that multiple LDIs are generated to cover the whole viewing range. Therefore, we can enhance the visual quality of the reconstructed views from multiple LDIs comparing with that from a single LDI. From experimental results, the proposed scheme shows better coding performance under arbitrary camera configurations in terms of PSNR and subjective visual quality.

  • This paper presents a frequency transfer function synthesis for simplifying a high-order model with time delay to a low-order model. A model reduction is based on minimizing the error function weighted by the numerator polynomial of reduced systems. The proposed method provides better low frequency fit and a computer aided algorithm. And in this paper, we present a design method of PID controller for achieving the desired specifications via the reduced model. The proposed method identifies the parameter vector of PID controller from a linear system that develops from rearranging the two dimensional input matrices and output vectors obtained from the frequency bounds.

  • In this paper, we design the optimal PD control system which has the robust performance. This PD control system is designed by applying genetic algorithm (GA) to the determination of proportional gain KP and derivative gain KD that are given by PD servo controller, to make the output of plant follow the output of reference model optimally. These proportional and derivatibe gains are simultaneously optimized in the search domain guaranteeing the robust performance of system. And, this PD control system is compared with $\mu$ -synthesis control system for the robust performance. The PD control system designed by the proposed method has not only the robust performance but also the better command tracking performance than that of the $\mu$ -synthesis control system. The effectiveness of this control system is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this study, in order to perform dynamic design of machine tools reasonably and effectively, a method was formulated to be applicable to the structures connected by joints having elasticity and damping by using substructure synthesis method. And to analyze chatter-free performance, a 3 dimensional cutting dynamics theory was used. Computer program package for the dynamic design of machine tools was developed by combining those and spplied to improvement of performance of NC lathe. Also, the optimization in the structural modifications of machine tool substructure was studied by evaluating the effects of the substructural modifications on total system performance.

  • The metabolic pathway synthesis algorithm was applied to estimate the maximum ethanol yield from xylose in a model recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain containing the genes involved in xylose metabolism. The stoichiometrically independent pathways were identified by constructing a biochemical reaction network for conversion of xylose to ethanol in the recombinant S. cerevisiae. Two independent pathways were obtained in xylose-assimilating recombinant S. cerevisiae as opposed to six independent pathways for conversion of glucose to ethanol. The maximum ethanol yield from xylose was estimated to be 0.46 g/g, which was lower than the known value of 0.51 g/g for glucose-fermenting and wild-type xylose-fermenting yeasts.
