  • Sex education in the U.K. follows an ideal model, co-operation where ever possible between homes, schools, and communities, whereas in Korea schools are mostly responsible for sex education. Moreover, Central Government and LEAs are deeply involved in school sex education in the U.K., in contrast, the concrete help at Government level is very limited in Korea though the necessity of sex education is acknowledged. These differences be accounted for by the different social and cultural backgrounds of the two countries, especially given the different thoughts of the people-oriental and occidental-. In the U.K., sex education has been a compulsory subject in secondary schools since 1994 (by the Education Act 1993), and it is well managed with the support at Government level as compared with that of Korea. Sex education in the U.K. may give some lessons for practising and developing sex education in Korea because the people in both countries have similarly conservative thinking about school sex education and it is implemented very carefully in the U.K.. In this article, a general comparison of background, policy, aims, content, management, teacher training, and materials of sex education between the two countries is made.

  • This study is to find ways of support for beginning teacher induction in elementary school with constructing model of professional development. To achieve this purpose, this study reviewed significance of beginning teacher induction program, the bridge to life learning, and constructed the model of professional development for beginning. The final conclusion about ways of support as support intensity are orientation based on demanding of beginning teacher, bridge connection with veteran teacher, coordination of working conditions, collaboration among peer teacher, and strengthening computer network at week intensity level. At strong intensity level, the ways of support for beginning teacher are institutionalization on election and training of mentor, institutionalization on compulsory induction for 1 year, development and operation of teacher education center, and furtherance of school learning organization.

  • English has been taught as a compulsory subject at elementary schools since 1997 starting with third graders, to sixth graders. We have seen active research on teaching methods for elementary English, but little has been done from the learners' perspective. It is very proper time for English educators to review what the elementary students think about their English classes. The purpose of the present study is as following. First, we tried to find out how the students' attitude toward and interest in English have changed over the four-year English education. Second we attempted to suggest the ways to promote the students' interests, and to increase understanding and participation in English classes. We also suggest that curriculum developers need to consider the students' lower interests and understanding in English classes as they move to higher grades, and that classroom teachers need to have a better understanding of what their students do and feel in the English classes.

  • In the solutions of civil disputes, there are decision of a court and alternative dispute resolution. Arbitration is one of alternative dispute resolutions. The decision of a court is the compulsory settlement and the solution by citizenship between two opposing parties, but arbitration is the autonomous and voluntary settlement by a private person, that is arbitrator. Besides these points, arbitration has various features in comparison with a decision of a court. The procedure of arbitration is not open to the public and single trial system guarantees speedy solution of disputes In the procedure of arbitration, arbitrator who pass judgement is selected and appointed by the parties to an affair. And there are questions how the arbitrator to become independent from them. Because Arbitration is not agreed solution which based on the concession between opposing two parties but imposed solution which is alike decision of a court. This study illustrates the system of challenge on arbitrator to guarantee independence of arbitrators.

  • Mathematics develops the ability to solve a problem and the spirit of inquiry by logical thinking, and statistics develops the ability to making a decision scientifically or rationally by various data processing techniques. Even though mathematics is a compulsory subject in most of IT-related departments, the reality of Korean education is serious. This research studies on the necessity of mathematics/statistics education for a person studying IT and analyzes the contents of mathematics/statistics among IT-related subjects. And the research makes a plan for specializing IT-related departments by use of specialized education programs using mathematics/statistics and examines a development plan in the short or long term period for connectivity with mathematics/statistics fields. This connectivity between IT-related departments and mathematics/statistics in the 21st century would certainly contribute to creating more practical or technical knowledge.

  • All objects emit thermal radiation and this radiation is the basis of the techniques used to detect flames. The usual phenomena occurring in the initial stage of a fire are generally invisible products of a combustion and visible smoke. Liquid or gaseous materials do not undergo a smoldering stage such fires develop very rapidly. Also, the heat generated by the initial flames is usually not sufficient to active a heat detector. In this case the most effective criterion for automatic fire detection is the flame. In fire regulation of korea, the compulsory standard provided that a flame detector shall be installed a place of the attachment hight of detector is higher than 20 m, chemical plants, hangar, refinery, etc.. The result of the research and development are discriminated between a flame and other radiant emitters, developed PZT pyroelectric element is based on the use of photo-voltanic cell, developed IR band-pass filter that only allow a 4.3 radiation wavelength to reach the sensors and developed IR flame detector.

  • High efficiency standards are slowly being introduced with IE3 efficiency levels shortly becoming compulsory in many countries; IE4 efficiency levels being developed for future implementation. In this paper a review is carried out of the IE 60034-30 standard which covers standard line-start induction motors. Some design techniques that can be used to increase efficiency in order to meet the IE4 standards are discussed. This standard is now being replaced by the IE60034-30-1 standard which extends to other line start motors and also IE 60034-30-2 is being introduced to cover variable speed drives in order to address developing technology. The conclusion is that IE4 standards are obtainable but careful design is needed to reach this. Examples from the literature are given.

  • Purpose : This study investigates pediatric nurses' knowledge and attitudes regarding iatrogenic narcotic analgesic withdrawal symptoms management (INAWSM). Methods : In this cross-sectional study, 253 pediatric nurses working at a tertiary hospital in Seoul participated. Instruments were the inventory consisting questionnaires on 35 items knowledge and 12 items attitude for INAWSM. Further, descriptive statistics, t-test, and analysis of variance were used to evaluate the nurses' knowledge and attitudes. Results : The correct answers rate of knowledge toward INAWSM was 44.9%. With respect to the pediatric nurses' attitudes, the participants scored an average value of $2.83{\pm}0.25$ out of 4 points. The factor related to the knowledge and attitude level was age, pediatric nursing experience, educational experience, and educational needs. Conclusions : Results revealed that pediatric nurses had inadequate knowledge and attitude on INAWSM despite a compulsory education. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an efficient INAWSM educational program.

  • This paper discusses some variables of innovation arised in the Mathematical Curriculum reform, This means that we should consider the curriculum change based on those variables so that the Mathematical Curriculum could be created on our culture, need of industrial society and nation's system. Those variables could be described as follows. (1) Extension of Compulsory Education (2) Needs of industrial society (3) Change of School environment (4) Integration of School subjects The research method used in the study was the interview-analysis method which the researcher firstly send the questionnaire and then have interviews with the target people. This study also suggests informally a possible solutions of problem that current mathematical curriculum is faced. Those solutions include the change of mathematics syllabus based on the adaption toward the real problems arised in real world.

  • This Study intends to find out the subjective symptom of Construction Business Worker caused by chemical material exposure, also willing to research how much they are exposed to VOCs(Volatile Organic Compounds) and under how much harmful circumstance they are working. As the results, the job group among construction business workers which is most highly dangerous degree to be taken ill of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity is Interior Worker, next following by order of Clerical Worker, Exterior Worker. According to this result, the continuous exposure in high density must be prevented by the measures for Interior Worker also to be bestowed a compulsory break during working hour for regular exposure to the open air,
