In northern China, abundant summer rainfall and a higher water table can weaken the soil due to salt heave, collapsibility, and increased moisture absorption, thus the chlorine saline soil (silty clay) needs to be stabilized prior to use in road embankments. To optimize chlorine saline soil stabilizing programs, unconfined compressive strength tests were conducted on soil treated with five different stabilizers before and after soaking, followed by field compaction test and unconfined compressive strength test on a trial road embankment. In situ testing were performed with the stabilized soils in an expressway embankment, and the results demonstrated that the stabilized soil with lime and SH agent (an organic stabilizer composed of modified polyvinyl alcohol and water) is suitable for road embankments. The appropriate addition ratio of stabilized soil is 10% lime and 0.9% SH agent. SH agent wrapped soil particles, filled soil pores, and generated a silk-like web to improve the moisture stability, strength, and stress-strain performance of stabilized soil.

Compressive strength of concrete has been regarded as a very important parameter of the quality control both in new and existing concrete pavement. It has been used a lot as the concrete strength evaluation both in the various-mixture-using laboratory and construction field using the same mixture. An error usually occurs in the test experiments of the strength, even in the test experiments with evenly mixed and compacted specimens of the compressive strength. It is caused by the 'manually operated' compressing testing, or by the specimens preparation with eccentricity. When compressive strength of evenly mixed concrete is investigated by the curing ages at the construction field, there have to be lots of specimens. And it needs much labor and cost. To substitute the endlessly repeated test experiments of compressive strength, presumption of compressive strength, by nondestructive tests, is needed. In this study, elastic waves were used among various nondestructive tests. Compressive strength of concrete was presumed according to the curing ages, by using the shear wave velocity which is not affected by restricted conditions. In the result, shear wave velocity is very closely related to the compressive strength at the evenly mixed concrete.

Axial compressive failure loads ($P_n$) of diameter 500 mm and diameter 600 mm A type PHC pile were calculated as 7.7 MN and 10.6 MN, respectively. In the static pile load tests, the maximum axial compressive loads of the above 2 kinds of A type pile were measured as 6.9 MN and 8.8 MN respectively, therefore these measured maximum loads were at the level of 90% and 83% of $P_n$ respectively. Long-term allowable axial compressive loads ($P_a$) of the above 2 kinds of A type pile were 1.7 MN and 2.3 MN respectively. From the bi-directional pile load test data on the prebored PHC piles, it was confirmed that the allowable axial compressive bearing resistance was estimated as 131% of the long-term allowable compressive load of the PHC pile and showed higher than the allowable bearing capacity calculated by the current design method. Therefore, it has been verified that the PHC pile can be used up to the maximum long-term allowable compressive load, and it is suggested that the ultimate pile capacity formula used in the current design for prebored PHC piles should be improved to accommodate the actual capacity.
The Taiwanese liquid crystal display (LCD) industry has traditionally produced a huge amount of waste glass that is placed in landfills. Waste glass recycling can reduce the material costs of concrete and promote sustainable environmental protection activities. Concrete is always utilized as structural material; thus, the concrete compressive strength with a variety of mixtures must be studied using predictive models to achieve more precise results. To create an efficient waste LCD glass concrete (WLGC) design proportion, the related studies utilized a multivariable regression analysis to develop a compressive strength waste LCD glass concrete equation. The mix design proportion for waste LCD glass and the compressive strength relationship is complex and nonlinear. This results in a prediction weakness for the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of the compressive strength of waste LCD glass concrete. Thus, the R ratio for the predictive multivariable regression model is 0.96. Neural networks (NN) have a superior ability to handle nonlinear relationships between multiple variables by incorporating supervised learning. This study developed a multivariable prediction model for the determination of waste LCD glass concrete compressive strength by analyzing a series of laboratory test results and utilizing a neural network algorithm that was obtained in a related prior study. The current study also trained the prediction model for the compressive strength of waste LCD glass by calculating the effects of several types of factor combinations, such as the different number of input variables and the relevant filter for input variables. These types of factor combinations have been adjusted to enhance the predictive ability based on the training mechanism of the NN and the characteristics of waste LCD glass concrete. The selection priority of the input variable strategy is that evaluating relevance is better than adding dimensions for the NN prediction of the compressive strength of WLGC. The prediction ability of the model is examined using test results from the same data pool. The R ratio was determined to be approximately 0.996. Using the appropriate input variables from neural networks, the model validation results indicated that the model prediction attains greater accuracy than the multivariable regression model during the initial growing phase of compressive strength. Therefore, the neural-based predictive model for compressive strength promotes the application of waste LCD glass concrete.
The purpose of this study is to establish a prediction model for the electrical resistivity ($E_r$) of self-consolidating concrete by using waste LCD (liquid crystal display) glass as part of the fine aggregate and then, to analyze the results obtained from a series of laboratory tests. A hyperbolic function is used to perform nonlinear multivariate regression analysis of the electrical resistivity prediction model, with parameters such as water-binder ratio (w/b), curing age (t) and waste glass content (G). Furthermore, the relationship of compressive strength and electrical resistivity of waste LCD glass concrete is also found by a logarithm function, while compressive strength is evaluated by the electrical resistivity of non-destructive testing (NDT). According to relative regression analysis, the electrical resistivity and compressive strength prediction models are developed, and the results show that a good agreement is obtained using the proposed prediction models. From the comparison between the predicted analysis values and test results, the MAPE value of electrical resistivity is 17.0-18.2% and less than 20%, the MAPE value of compressive strength evaluated by $E_r$ is 5.9-10.6% and nearly less than 10%. Therefore, the prediction models established in this study have good predictive ability for electrical resistivity and compressive strength of waste LCD glass concrete. However, further study is needed in regard to applying the proposed prediction models to other ranges of mixture parameters.

The main objective of this investigation is to study size effect on compressive strength of CFRP confined concrete cylinders subjected to axial compressive loading. In total 24 concrete cylinders with different sizes were tested, small specimens with a diameter of 100 mm and a height of 200 mm, medium specimens with a diameter of 200 mm and a height of 400 mm, and big specimens with a diameter of 300 mm and a height of 600 mm. The lateral confining pressure of each specimen is the same and from that hypothesis the small specimens were confined with one layer of CFRP, medium and big specimens were performed by two and three layers of CFRP respectively. Test results indicate a significant enhancement in compressive strength for all confined specimens, and moreover, the compressive strengths of small and medium specimens are almost the same while a bit lower for big specimens. These results permit to conclude that there is no size effect on compressive strength of confined specimens regardless of cylinder dimension.
Compressive strength reduction characteristics of 4 different linerboards(SC, KA, SK and IK) as influenced by temperature and humidity were investigated by ring crush test. No significant effect of temperature on the reduction of compressive strength was found for samples prepared at 5$^{\circ}C$ and 30$^{\circ}C$. At the relative humidity of 66 percents, IK linerboard showed the lowest reduction of the compressive strength. At the relative humidity of 93 percents, KA linerboard lost 40 percents of its initial compressive strength while SK linerboard lost its strength up to 56 percents. The result indicated that KA linerboard was the most cost effective and material with the highest compressive strength among tested linerboards.
Recently the steel parts used for automiles and trains are required to be used under higher stress than ever before in need of the weight down. However, threr are a lot of problems with developing such of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. And got the following characteristics from crack growth test carried out stress ratio. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Un-peening material. And Compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue. So we cam obtain fallowings. (1) The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent of Paris equation. (2) Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. (3) The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress.
This study is conducted to investigate the effect of phase change materials (PCM) on hydration heat and strength characteristics of cement mortar. Two types of Barium and Strontium-based PCMs were used in this study and the addition ratio of each PCM to the cement mortar ranged from 1% to 5% by cement weight. Flow test, semi-adiabatic temperature rise test, compressive strength and flexural strength test were carried out to examine the PCM effect on heat and mechanical properties of cement mortar. Test results indicated that PCMs used in this study were effective to control hydration heat of cement mortar, and Barium-based PCM slightly reduce flow value. The compressive and flexural strength of cement mortar with PCM decreased with increasing the adding mount of PCM. The prediction model for compressive strength of cement mortar with different addition levels of PCMs are suggested in this study.
The strength evaluation of rocks is a very important factor in designing and constructing tunnels or underground excavation. However, it takes a lot of time and endeavor to perform the unconfined compressive strength test for practice and a number of tests are limited. In order to make up for this method, the point load strength test is suggested. Generally, the strength of a rock differs depending on its type and region. However, as people unite the Point Load Strength Indexes of various regions and types to use in practice in many cases, they find difficulty in analogizing the exact strength. The purpose of this study is suggestion of the value in construction site by analizing the relation of both unconfined compressive and point load strength in the Gyeonggi gneiss complex.
