In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to study the effect of crack and axial load on vibration behavior and stability of the cracked columns. Using the local flexibility model, the crack has been simulated by a torsional spring with connecting two segments of column in crack location. By solving governing eigenvalue equation, the effects of crack parameters and axial load on the natural frequencies and buckling load as well as buckling load are investigated. The results show that the presents of crack cause to reduction in natural frequencies and buckling load whereas this reduction is affected by the location and depth of the crack. Furthermore, the tensile and compressive axial load increase and decrease the natural frequencies, respectively. In addition, as the compression load approaches to certain value, the fundamental natural frequency reaches zero and instability occurs. The accuracy of the model is validated through the experimental data reported in the literature.
Movement behavior, shrinkage and equilibrium moisture content (EMC), in this experiment reflected a change of hygroscopicity mainly affected by continuously compressive load during radio-frequency/vacuum (RF/V) drying and humidity changes during equilibrating. As a result of interaction of the compressive load and moisture content changing under the RF/V condition, the shrinkages in loading direction were significantly increased while those perpendicular to loading direction were decreased. The shrinkages were affected most in tangential, and least in longitudinal direction. The shrinkages showed higher values in continuous drying than in intermittent drying. In the direction of increased shrinkage, all the movements were also increased, for example, the tangential movement for the loaded-RS and the radial movement for loaded-TS; in the direction of decreased shrinkage, all the movements except the tangential movement for the loaded-TS were decreased such as the tangential and radial movements for the loaded-ES, and the radial movement for the loaded-RS, comparing with those of the load-free. EMCs of the loaded specimens were all higher than that of the load-free specimen, and the highest for the loaded-TS, the lowest for the loaded-ES. The transverse hygroscopicity of specimen was reduced for the loaded-ES, but increased for the loaded-TS.

The purpose of this study is to investigate both the fundamental and some higher natural frequencies and mode shapes of compressive members resting on the linear elastic foundation. The model of compressive member is based on the classical Bernoulli-Euler beam theory. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such members subjected to an axial load is derived and solved numerically for calculating the natural frequencies and mode shapes. The Improved Euler method is used to integrate the differential equation and the Determinant Search method combined with the Regula-Falsi method to determine the natural frequencies, respectively. In numerical examples, the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped, clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. The convergence analysis is conducted for determining the available step size in the Improved Euler method. The validation of theories developed herein is also conducted by comparing the numerical results between this study and SAP 90. The non-dimensional frequency parameters are presented as the non-dimensional system parameters: section ratio, modulus parameter and load parameter. Also typical mode shapes are presented.

It is generally known that the lateral frequency( ω) of the vibration of a prismatic beam-column decreases according to the rele (equation omitted) (ω/sub 0/=natural frequency). In the cases of tapered members, the determination of P/ sub/ cr/(elastic critical load) and ω/ sub 0/ are not easy. Furthermore, the relationship between the compressive load and frequency can not be determined by the conventional analytical method. The axial force-frequency relationship of sinusolidally non-symmetrically tapered members with different shapes were investigated using the finite element method. To obtain the two eigenvalues, the axial thrust was increased step by step and the corresponding frequency was calculated. The result indicated that the axial thrust of the elastic critical load ratio and the square of the frequency ratio can be approximately represented in any case by a straight line. Finally, the linear relationship is also applicable to the sinusolidally non-symmetrically tapered member.

Since the propellant tank structure of the projectile is mainly subjected to a compressive force, there is a high risk of damage due to buckling. Large and lightweight structures such as propellant tank have a complex manufacturing process. So it requires a non-destructive test method to predict buckling load to use the structure after testing. Many studies have been conducted on Vibration Correlation Technique(VCT), which predicts buckling load using the relationship between compressive load and natural frequency, but it requires a large compressive load to predict the buckling load accurately, and it tends to decrease prediction accuracy with increasing internal pressure in structure. In this paper, we analyzed the causes of the decrease in prediction accuracy when internal pressure increases and proposed a method increasing prediction accuracy under the low compressive load for being usable after testing, through VCT combined testing and FEA result. The prediction value by the proposed method was very consistent with the measured actual buckling load.

Free vibration and buckling analysis of multi-delaminated composite beam-columns subjected to axial compressive load is performed in the present study In order to investigate the effects of multi-delaminations on the natural frequency and the elastic buckling load of multi-delaminated beam-columns, the general kinematic continuity conditions are derived from the assumption of constant slope and curvature at the multi-dclamination tip. The characteristic equation of multi-delaminated beam-column is obtained by dividing the global multi-delauunated beam-columns into segments and by imposing recurrence relation from the continuity conditions on each sub-beam-column. The natural frequency and the elastic buck)ing load of multi-delaminated beam-columns according to the incremental load of axial compression, which is limited to the maximum elastic buckling load of sound laminated beam-column, are obtained. It is found that the sizes, locations and numbers of multi-delaminations have significant effect on natural frequency and elastic buckling load, especially the latter ones.

Based on the design requirements(size, strength, structure, weight, and etc.) for the rubber-tired AGT vehicle, carbody made of aluminum alloy is designed. The analysis of strength and stiffness is performed in the designed carbody, which results in the modification for optimal shapes and structures. It consists of a under frame, side frame, roof frame, end frame and forehead frame. After the carbody manufactured, tests are performed, which are vertical load test, longitudinal compressive load test, twisting load test, twisting natural frequency measurement, bending natural frequency measurement and 3 points supporting test. Results of them can guarantee a structural safety.

This paper deals with the dynamic stability analysis of clamped-hinged columns with constant volume. Numerical methods are developed for solving natural frequencies and buckling loads of such columns, subjected to an axial compressive load. The parabolic taper with the regular polygon cross-section is considered, whose material volume and column length are always held constant. Differential equations governing both free vibrations and buckled shapes of such columns are derived. The Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the Regula-Falsi method is used to determine natural frequencies and buckling loads, respectively. The numerical methods developed herein for computing natural frequencies and buckling loads are found to be efficient and robust. From the numerical results, dynamic stability regions, dynamic optimal shapes and configurations of strongest columns are reported in figures and tables.
