According to experimental studies made so far, design formula of shear characteristics suggested by ISO 22762 and JEAG 4614, representative design code for Lead Rubber Bearing(LRB) shows dependence caused by changes in compressive stress. Especially, in the case of atypical special structure, such as a nuclear power structure, placement of seismic isolation bearing is more limited compared to that of existing structures and design compressive stress is various in sizes. As a result, there is a difference between design factor and real behavior with regards to shear characteristics of base isolation device, depending on compressive stress. In this study, a full-scale low hardness device of LRB, representative base isolation device was manufactured, analyzed, and then evaluated through an experiment on shear characteristics related to various compressive stresses. With design compressive stress of the full-scale LRB (13MPa) being a basis, changes in shear characteristics were analyzed for compressive stress of 5 MPa, 10 MPa, 13 MPa, 15 MPa, and 20 MPa based on characteristics test specified by ISO 22762:2010 and based on the test result, a regression analysis was made to offer an empirical formula. With application of proposed design formula which reflected the existing design formula and empirical formula, trend of horizontal characteristics was analyzed.

In this study, the compressive strength and porosity characteristics of cement mortar mixed with liquid and powder composite water repellent were evaluated. When the liquid water repellent was mixed, the compressive strength at 28 days of age was 42% compared to OPC, and the compressive strength was greatly reduced. However, the 28-day compressive strength of the powder water repellent mixture and P5L1, P6L1 liquid and powder composite water repellent was about 97% compared to OPC, and there was little decrease in compressive strength.

This study evaluated the compressive strength characteristics of steam curing mortar according to the substitution rate of industrial by-products, and showed a tendency to increase the compressive strength when gypsum was substituted up to 30%.
The deformation characteristics and microstructure changes in a round copper pipe under biaxial compression was studied using a horizontal compression die. The change of material properties, punch load and deformation behavior were monitored using various compressive deformation rates in the range of 0.5mm/min.~450mm/min. The strains, either tensile or compressive, were estimated from Vickers microhardness test results. The punch load and deformation characteristics of the round copper pipes were found to change greatly at a deformation rate of about 200mm/min. The punch load decreased with increasing compressive deformation rate. The results of numerical simulations agreed well with what was expected from the final microstructure and the hardness profile estimated from the final deformation strains.
In this study, the heavy metals in tannery sludge were solidified by using cement and power plant fly ash. Solidification characteristics were discussed with the compressive strength and chromium leaching characteristics of solids. The compressive strength of cement mortar was increased by the amount of fly ash up to 24.3~33.8%, which was considered the results of pozzolanic reaction. When the content of fly ash was 20%, cement mortar showed the highest value $295kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ for 28 days curing. At early curing days, solidified chromium tannery sludge solids were showed lower compressive strength because of the retard on the hydration of cement, but the compressive strength was recovered to be more than $140kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ for 28 days curing regardless with the amounts of fly ash. Also, the results of leaching tests by KSM and TCLP method were showed that the solidified chromium sludge have leached out 0.3~2.2% and 11~17%, respectively.

This study experimentally investigated the compressive and flexyral strength development characteristics of polymer concrete using four different type polymeric resins such as unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, epoxy, and PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) as binders. The test results show that the average compressive strength of those four different polymer concretes was 88.70 MPa, the average flexural strength was 20.30 MPa. Those test results show that compressive and flexural strengths of polymer concrete were much stronger than compressive and flexural strengths of ordinary Portland cement concrete. In addition, the relative gains of the compressive strength development at the age of 24 hrs compared to the age of 168 hrs were 68.6~88.3 %. Also, the relative gains of the flexural strength development at the age of 24 hrs compared to the age of 168 hrs were 73.8~93.4 %. These test results show that compressive and flexural strengths of each polymer concrete tested in this study were developed at the early age. Moreover, the prediction equations of compressive and flexural strength developments regarding the age were determined. The determined prediction equations could be applied to forecast the compressive and flexural strength developments of polymer concrete investigated in this study because those prediction equations have the high coefficients of correlation. Last, the relations between the compressive strength and the flexural strength of polymer concrete were determined and the flexural/compressive strength ratios were from 1/4 to 1/5. These results show that polymer concretes investigated in this study were appropriate as a flexural member of a concrete structure because the flexural/compressive strength ratios of polymer concrete were much higher than the flexural/compressive strength ratios of Portland cement concrete.

In general, various factors such as grain size, chemical composition, amorphous amount, amorphous Si and Al content of fly ash affect the reaction with cement. In this study, we investigate the effect of fly ash particle characteristics on compressive strength. The standard sand was pulverized to a particle size similar to that of fly ash and the compressive strength was measured by blending with the cement as in fly. Using the measured compressive strength results, strength enhancement by cement hydration reaction and strength enhancement by particle filling effect were confirmed. Strength increment by pozzolanic reaction of fly ash was calculated by using the compressive strength results of mortar substituted with standard powder. As a result of comparison between compressive strengths and the particle characteristics of fly ash, the blaine showed a weak correlation with the compressive strength and the PI(Pozzolanic Index) showed good correlation with the 10% penetration diameter(D10) and the 50% Respectively. Therefore, it is expected that PI will be a good means to evaluate the fly ash characteristics together with the chemical characteristics of fly ash.

Because the compressive properties such as compressive stiffness and compressive maximum strength of the fabric composite materials are essential to analyse the drape behaviour and estimate the quality of the final products, compressive tests of fabric composites with different stacking sequences were performed. Appropriate shape and dimensions for the compressive test specimens were prepared and several specimens with different conditions were tested and compared with each other.
This paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of light-weighted soils (LWS) consisting of expanded polystyrene(EPS), dredged clays and cement by using both uniaxial and triaxial compression tests. The mechanical characteristics of the compressive strength of LWS are analysed with varying initial water contents of dredged clays, EPS ratio, cement ratio, and curing stress. In the triaxial compression state, it is found that the compressive strength of LWS containing EPS is independent on the effective confined stress. As the EPS ratio decreases($A_E$<2%) and cement ratio increases($A_c$>2%), the behavior characteristics of triaxial compressive strength-strain relationship is similar to that of cemented soil which decreases rapidly in compressive strength after ultimate compressive strength. For the applications of LWS to ground improvements which require the compressive strength of up to 200kPa, the optimized EPS ratio and initial water content of dredged clay are estimated to be 3~4% and 165~175%, respectively. Also, the ultimate compressive strength under both triaxial test and uniaxial compression states are almost constant for a cement ratio of up to 2% and then critical cement ratio of this LWS shall be 2%.
Sandwich sheet with inner structure is expected to find many applications because of high stiffness to mass ratio. However, low resistance to the compressive pressure in the thickness direction is a dominating factor in the formability of sandwich sheet. In this study, sandwich sheet with pyramid type core is considered. For the compressive characteristics in the thickness direction, experiments and finite element simulations are carried out. In the experiment, deformation behavior is observed and discussed as the compression proceeds. It is shown that a corresponding finite element simulation can give a reasonable agreement with experiment in terms of maximum pressure. However, simulation shows some discrepancy from the experiment in terms of compressive pressure-displacement characteristics. The reasons for this discrepancy are studied in the geometrical imperfectness of sandwich sheet. It is also observed that most of deformation is dominated by buckling mode of pyramid legs.
