This paper is ready to change a trend of a ultra high definition (UHD) video image, and it will contribute to improve the performance of the latest H.264 through the Uni-directional $8{\times}8$ intra-prediction idea which is based on developing a intra prediction compression. The Uni-directional $8{\times}8$ intra prediction is focused on a $8{\times}8$ block intra prediction using $4{\times}4$ block based prediction which is using the same direction of intra prediction. This paper describes that the uni-directional $8{\times}8$ intra-prediction gets a improvement around 7.3% BDBR only in the $8{\times}8$ block size, and it gets a improvement around 1.3% BDBR in the H.264 applied to the multi block size structures. In the case of a larger image size, it can be changed to a good algorithm. Because the video codec which is optimized for UHD resolution can be used a different block size which is bigger than before(currently a minimum of $4{\times}4$ blocks of units).
Rock fracture mechanics has been widely applied to various fields of rock and civil engineering. But most researches covered mode I behavior, though mode II behavior is dominant in rock engineering. Until now, there is only one ISRM suggested method for mode II toughness of rock. A new SCC (Short Core in Compression) mode II toughness test method was developed considering 1) application of confining pressure, 2) easiness of notch creation, 3) utilization of existing equipment, 4) simple test procedure. The stress intensity factors were determined by 3D finite element method considering line and distributed loading conditions. The tests with granite specimens were carried out using MTS 815 rock test system with a loading rate of 0.002 mm/s. The mean value of mode II fracture toughness of granite showed $2.33MPa{\sqrt{m}}$. Mode I toughness of the same granite was $1.12MPa{\sqrt{m}}$, determined by Brazilian disk test and $K_{IIC}/K_{IC}=2.08$. The smooth fracture surface with rock powder formation also supported mode II behavior of SCC method. The SCC method can be used for the determination of mode II fracture toughness of rocks based on the current results.

Pebble matrix filtration (PMF) is a water treatment technology that can remove suspended solids in highly turbid surface water during heavy storms. PMF typically uses sand and natural pebbles as filter media. Hand-made clay pebbles (balls) can be used as alternatives to natural pebbles in PMF treatment plants, where natural pebbles are not readily available. Since the high turbidity is a seasonal problem that occurs during heavy rains, the use of newly developed composite clay balls instead of pure clay balls have the advantage of removing other pollutants such as natural organic matter (NOM) during other times. Only the strength properties of composite clay balls are described here as the pollutant removal is beyond the scope of this paper. These new composite clay balls must be able to withstand dead and live loads under dry and saturated conditions in a filter assembly. Absence of a standard ball preparation process and expected strength properties of composite clay balls were the main reasons behind the present study. Five different raw materials from industry wastes: Red Mud (RM), Water Treatment Alum Sludge (S), Shredded Paper (SP), Saw Dust (SD), and Sugar Mulch (SM) were added to common clay brick mix (BM) in different proportions. In an effort to minimize costs, in this study clay balls were fired to $1100^{\circ}C$ at a local brick factory together with their bricks. A comprehensive experimental program was performed to evaluate crushing strength of composite hand-made clay balls, using uniaxial compression test to establish the best material combination on the basis of strength properties for designing sustainable filter media for water treatment plants. Performance at both construction and operating stages were considered by analyzing both strength properties under fully dry conditions and strength degradation after saturation in a water bath. The BM-75% as the main component produced optimum combination in terms of workability and strength. With the material combination of BM-75% and additives-25%, the use of Red Mud and water treatment sludge as additives produced the highest and lowest strength of composite clay balls, with a failure load of 5.4 kN and 1.4 kN respectively. However, this lower value of 1.4 kN is much higher than the effective load on each clay ball of 0.04 kN in a typical filter assembly (safety factor of 35), therefore, can still be used as a suitable filter material for enhanced pollutant removal.
A burnt-out prostate cancer tumor is a very rare clinical entity. The term 'burnt-out' refers to a primary tumor that has spontaneously and nearly completely regressed without treatment. Since metastasis of prostate cancer is usually encountered in the presence of advanced disease, distant metastasis with an undetectable primary tumor is very rare. We report herein a case of a burnt-out prostate cancer tumor that metastasized to the thoracic (T) spine and caused cord compression. A 66-year-old man visited the Emergency Department due to weakness of both legs for the past two days. His blood and urine tests were normal at the time. His spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans looked like bone metastasis that involved the T-7 vertebral body and a posterior element, and caused spinal cord compression. Other images, including from the brain MRI, neck/chest/abdomino-pelvic computed tomography (CT) scan and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) and endoscopy, revealed no lesions that suggested malignancy. After total corpectomy T-7 and screw fixation/fusion at T5 to T10, the pathology report revealed a metastatic carcinoma that was strongly positive for prostate-specific antigen (PSA). The serum PSA value was 1.5 ng/mL. The transrectal 12-core prostate biopsy and ultrasonography showed no definitive hypoechoic lesion, but one specimen had slight (only 1%) adenocarcinoma with a Gleason score of 6 (3+3). The final diagnosis was burned-out prostate cancer with an initial normal PSA value. Although metastatic disease with an unknown primary origin was confirmed, a more aggressive approach in seeking the primary origin could provide a more specific treatment strategy and greater clinical benefit to patients.

Objective : A primary degenerative sagittal imbalance has been considered because of unique lifestyles such as the prolonged crouched posture during agricultural work and performing activities of daily living on the floor. Previous papers have reported that sagittal imbalance disease is often seen distinctly in the farming districts of "oriental" countries such as Korea and Japan. However, this finding was only evaluated with the use of X-ray, and other factors such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), muscle volume, compression fracture, and laboratory results were not considered. Thus, using these, we evaluate the agricultural work-associated factors for Korean elderly spinal sagittal imbalance. Methods : We recruited 103 Korean participants who had a sagittal vertical axis (SVA) of >5 cm in this Korean Elderly Sagittal Imbalance Cohort Study. The following were evaluated : radiological parameters, MRI, compression fracture, vitamin D, parathyroid hormone, C-terminal telopeptide, osteocalcin, bone mineral density and muscle fatty change, muscle volume, and health-related quality of life from patients' survey. Moreover, in this survey, the farmers' annual working hours were investigated. Subsequently, we analyzed the associated factors for spinal sagittal imbalance depending on occupation. Results : A total of 46 participants were farmers, and the others were housewives, sellers, and office workers. The farmer group had more SVA (141 vs. 99 mm, p=0.001) and pelvic tilt (31° vs. 24°, p=0.004) and lesser lumbar lordosis (20° vs. 30°, p=0.009) and thoracic kyphosis (24° vs. 33°, p=0.03) than non-farmer group. A significantly positive correlation was noted between the working hour and SVA in the farmer group (p=0.014). The visual analogue scale score for back pain (8.26 vs. 6.96, p=0.008) and Oswestry Disability Index (23.5 vs. 19.1, p=0.003) in the farmer group were higher than that in the non-farmer group, but the Short Form-36 score was not significantly different between the two groups. The Mini-Mental State Exam score was significantly lower in the farmer group than in the non-farmer group (24.85 vs. 26.98, p=0.002). Conclusion : The farmer group had more sagittal imbalance and back pain in proportion to the working hours even though the muscle and bone factors and general laboratory condition were not significantly different between the two groups. These results supported that the long hours spent in the crouched posture while performing agricultural work were a risk factor for severe sagittal imbalance.

We utilized Ag capping layer for fluxless bonding. To investigate the effect of Ag capping layer, two sets of sample were used. One set was bare In and Sn solders. The other set was In and Sn solders with Ag capping layer. In ($10{\mu}m$) and Sn ($10{\mu}m$) solders were deposited on Cu/Ti/Si substrate using thermal-evaporation, and Ag ($0.1{\mu}m$) capping layers were deposited on In and Sn solders. Solder joints were made by joining two In and Sn deposited specimens at $130^{\circ}C$ for 30 s under 0.8, 1.6, 3.2 MPa using thermal compression bonder. The contact resistance was measured using four-point probe method. The shear strength of the solder joints was measured by the shear test of cross-bar sample in the direction. The microstructure of the solder joints was characterized with SEM and EDS. In and Sn solders without Ag capping layers were only bonded at $130^{\circ}C$ under high bonding pressure. Also the shear strength of the In-Sn solder joints under was lower than that of the Ag/In-Ag/Sn solder joints. The resistance of the solder joints was $2-4\;m{\Omega}$ The solder joints consisted of In-rich phase and Sn-rich phase and the intermixed compounds were found at the interface. As bonding pressure increased, the intermixed compounds formed more.

A hybrid system of soil-nailing and compression anchor is proposed in this paper; the system is composed of an anchor bar (installed at the tip) with two PC strands and a steel bar. After drilling a hole, installing proposed hybrid systems, and filling the hole with grouting material, prestress is applied to the anchor bar to restrict the deformation at the head and/or to prevent shallow slope failures. However, since the elongation rate of PC strand is much larger than that of steel bar, yield at the steel bar will occur much earlier than the PC strand. It means that the yield load of the hybrid system will be overestimated if we simply add yield loads of the two - anchor bar and PC strands. It might be needed to try to match the yielding time of the two materials by applying the prestress to the anchor bar. It means that the main purpose of applying prestress to the anchor bar should be two-fold: to restrict the deformation at the nail head; and more importantly, to maximize the design load of the hybrid system by utilizing load transfer mechanism that transfers the prestress applied at the tip to the head through anchor bar. In order to study the load transfer mechanism in a systematic way, in-situ pullout tests were performed with the following conditions: soil-nailing only; hybrid system with the variation of prestress stresses from 0kN to 196kN. It was found that the prestress applied to the anchor system will induce the compressive stress to the steel bar; it will result in decrease in the slope of load-displacement curve of the steel bar. Then, the elongation at which the steel bar will reach yield stress might become similar to that of PC strands. By taking advantage of prestress to match elongations at yield, the pullout design load of the hybrid system can be increased up to twice that of the soil-nailing system.
Triaxial compression tests on anisotropic rock specimens are carried out to investigate the failure strength characteristic of anisotropic rocks. The test core specimens were obtained in Daegu region. Test specimens are rock cores with the 7 different angles of bedding plane. The applied confining pressures were 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 MPa, and the rate of displacement was adopted 0.1%/min to fail the specimen within 5-15 min. The results were analyzed by using the failure criteria for anisotropic rocks proposed by Hoek & Brown (1980) and Jaeger (1960). The results of this study are summerised as follows: The results of inherent anisotropy show the shoulder type of anisotropy, and the effect of anisotropy is reduced as the confining pressure increases. The compressive strength of anisotropic rock shows the highest value at the ${\beta}$ (the angle of bedding plane) = $0^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ and the lowest value at $30^{\circ}$. The Hoek & Brown failure criterion for anisotropic rocks gives a relatively good agreement with the measured strength in all the range of ${\beta}$ angles, but the theory of Jaeger shows a reasonable agreement only in the range of ${\beta}=15^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$.

Existing tests results have shown that confining the concrete compression region with closed stirrups improves the ductility and load-carrying capacity of beams. However, only few researchers have attempted to utilize the beneficial effects of the presence of these stirrups in design. This paper presents the result of experimental studies on the load-deflection behavior and the strengthening effect of laterally confined structural high-strength concrete beam members in which confinement stirrups have been introduced into the compression regions. Fifteen tests were conducted on full-scale beam specimens having concrete compressive strength of 41 MPa and 61 MPa. Different spacing of stirrups(0.25∼1.0d) and amount of tension steel($0.55{\sim}0.7{\rho}_b$) as major variables were investigated. And also, this study present an appropriate shear equation for decision of ultimate failure modes of high-strength concrete beams according to stirrup spacing. The equation is based on interaction between shear strength and displacement ductility. Prediction of failure mode from presented method and comparison with test results are also presenteded
Multi-specimen uniaxial compression test has been carried out in order to find the method to determine the five independent elastic constants from a single standard specimen of a transversely isotropic rock. Total 35 specimens of 7 different angles from a large block of rhyolite presenting the flow structure obviously are used in tests. This second report is to focus on the statistical evaluation of measured strains and analyzed elastic constants. And the determination of their true or near-true values is discussed. As the result of RSD analysis, it turns out that the reliability of measured strains is sufficiently obtained and Saint-Venant approximation is well applicable except 15 degree angled specimen in tests. RSD is decreasing on the increase of the angle of anisotropy. This tendency may be caused not only by the decreasing of the deviation of measured strains, but also by the better applicability of Saint-Venant approximation on the increase of angle. It can be concluded that the analyzed values are considered the near-true ones of five independent constants on the high reliability. But the variation of the apparent Young's modulus expected by these values is not proved to match the measured tendency. It is inferred that the factor to decrease the apparent Young's modulus and/or to increase the shear strain, is present in the test or in the nature of the anisotropy in consideration of this inconsistency.
