  • In this paper, cycle performance analysis of R744($CO_2$) two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the carbon dioxide two-stage refrigeration cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The cooling capacity of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, compressor efficiency and gas cooling pressure, but decreases with the increasing mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. The compression work of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler, gas cooling pressure and evaporating temperature, but decreases with the increasing compressor efficiency and mass flowrate ratio. The COP of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing compressor efficiency, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. Therefore, superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature of R744($CO_2$) two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity, compressor work and COP of this system.

  • For the purpose of investigating the impulsive noise at the exit of high-speed railway tunnel and the pressure transients inside the tunnel, experiments were carried out using a shock tube with an open end. A great deal of experimental data were obtained and explored to analyze the peak pressures and maximum pressure gradients in the pressure waves. The effects of the distance and cross-sectional area ratio between two-continuous tunnels on the characteristics of the pressure waves were investigated. The peak pressure inside the second tunnel decreases for the distance and cross-sectional area ratio between two tunnels to increase. Also the peak pressure and maximum pressure gradient of the pressure wave inside the second tunnel increase as the maximum pressure gradient of initial compression wave increases.

  • The entry compression wave, which is generated at the entrance of the tunnel, is almost always associated with the pressure transients in the tunnel as well as the impulse noise at the exit of the tunnel. It is highly required to design the train nose shape that can minimize such undesirable phenomena. The objective of the current work is to investigate the effects of the train nose shape on the entry compression wave. Numerical computations were applied to one-dimensional unsteady compressible flow in high-speed railway train/tunnel systems. A various shape of train noses were tested for a wide range of train speeds. The results showed that the strength of the entry compression wave is not influenced by the train nose shape, but the time variation of pressure in the entry compression wavefront is strongly related to the train nose shape. The current method of the characteristics was able to represent a desirable nose shape for various train speeds. Optimum nose shape was found to considerably reduce the maximum pressure gradient of the entry compression wave.

  • The turbulence in the engine cylinder is generated by intake pressure and inertia effects during intake stroke, and is generated and decreased by piston compression effect during the compression stroke. The classified needed to generate high turbulence flow at vicinity of ignition timing. Therefore, A single-shot Rapid Intake Compression Expansion Machine (RICEM), which is able to realize the intake, compression, expansion or intake-compression stroke under high piston speed respectively, was manufactured and evaluated in order to find methods to generate high turbulence at around spark timing. It was found that the characteristics of RICEM such as reapperance, leakage, piston displacement with crank angle was corresponding to those of real engine and RICEM simulates not only high temperature and high pressure field but also flow patterns of the actual engine by increasing of pressure in intake line.

  • In this study, compression process is performed on the seamless E235 pipe using the newly developed compression technology for seamless pipe. Experimental analysis on the heterogeneity of microstructures and mechanical properties of the deformed seamless pipe is conducted. As a result, the correlation between microstructures and mechanical properties are determined. The spatial distribution of effective stress and effective strain developed in the seamless pipe deformed through compression is analyzed using the finite element method (FEM) based on different inner pressure conditions. From the results of the FEM, the impact of the inner pressure on effective stress and effective strain of the seamless pipe deformed through compression can be understood theoretically.

  • Adjustment of clothing pressure for compression wear is critical to the physiological and psychological satisfaction of the wearer; however, there are limited studies on the practical relationship among extensibility of materials, pattern reduction of compression wear and resultant clothing pressure. This study provides consumers and designers with information on clothing pressure using a screening extensibility test suggested by Ziegert and Keil (1988) even for the final products. As the first step, ten commercial products were collected and their size, extensibility and corresponding clothing pressure were analyzed. It was found that clothing pressure around the waist level could be predicted well from the information of Ziegert and Keil's (1988) % extensibility of the material (Z stretch %) and the actual application of Z stretch amount to the pattern reduction rate (applied % of Z stretch), with an $r^2$ of around 0.80, especially at the waist level. However, it was not simple for the case of clothing pressure around the back of the chest level due to the various design variation and the complexity of the anatomical structure around the trapezius.

  • A compression wave is generated by the high speed train which enters a tunnel, and it propagates along the tunnel. When the compression wave emerges from the exit of the tunnel, it causes an impulsive noise, and the strength of the impulsive noise depends on the pressure gradient of the first compression wave. So it needs to reduce the pressure gradient for the minimization of impulsive noise. The entrance hood is used for the reduction of the pressure gradient. In the present study, the pressure transients were numerically calculated for three shapes of hood, In order to validate the numerical simulation, the pressure and pressure gradient were compared with the experimental data of moving model rig. The calculation results won well agreed with the experimental data, and also showed that the hood had an effect on the pressure gradient of the tunnel inside.

  • Liquid pressure amplifiers have been proposed as an energy saving technology for vapor compression refrigeration systems configured with direct-expansion evaporators. The technology utilizes a refrigerant pump in the high pressure liquid line as a means of maintaining a suitable pressure differential across the expansion valve while lowering condensing pressure to achieve the reduction of compressor energy consumption. Applications have been proposed on systems ranging from small unitary air-conditioning to large supermarket and commercial refrigeration systems. This paper clarifies the role of such a device in a vapor compression refrigeration system. Limitations are presented and discussed. Finally, results of detailed analyses are presented to quantify the energy consumption both with and without a liquid pressure amplifier in a unitary air conditioning system. The estimated energy savings associated with the installation of a liquid pressure amplifier are minimal.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of levels of education on ground reaction force and center of pressure parameters during chest compression resuscitation. Method: Twenty male university students were divided into two groups; certified group (CG, n=10) and non-certified group (NCG, n=10). Two force plates were used to measure ground reaction force and center of pressure parameters during 30 times (three trials) chest compression resuscitation. Independent t-tests were used to compare ground reaction force and center of pressure parameters between two groups. An alpha level of 0.05 was used in all tests. Results: All chest-compression time parameters (total time, 1 systolic time, and diastolic time) in CG were significantly shorter than those in NCG (p<.05). Fy of the diastolic and Fz of the systolic in CG revealed significantly the larger GRF values and Fy of the systolic in CG showed significantly the smaller GRF value (p<.05). The standard deviation of Fz of the systolic and diastolic within the subject during 30 times chest-compression resuscitation revealed significantly the smaller values in CG (p<.05). Conclusion: First, CG performed chest compressions efficiently at an appropriate rate compared to NCG. Second, CG showed lower Fx and Fy values in both the mediolateral and anteroposterior axes compared to NCG, which reduced unnecessary chest-compression force consumption and minimized the movement in patients with cardiac arrest. Third, CG showed high Fz value of the systolic and low Fz value of the diastolic. Based on this, chest compression resuscitation was performed to increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients.

  • A heavy duty hydrogen-natural gas fueled engine can obtain stable operation at ultra lean conditions and reduce emissions extremely. Reduction of $CO_2$ in its engine is one of the most benefit. In this study, rate of hydrogen addition($R_{dH2}$) and compression ratio($\varepsilon$) were investigated including performance of this engine. As results, it was found that phenomenon of pressure oscillation when increasing $R_{dH2}$ and $\varepsilon$, it means occurring knock. It consider that pressure oscillation was increased due to fast burning speed of hydrogen. Even if same compression ratio, pressure oscillation was remarkable increased according to increasing $R_{dH2}$. Therefore, limit compression ratio of knock occurring was reduced by increasing $R_{dH2}$.
