  • In this paper, we propose a lossless compression scheme for cloud point data of the target construction by using doubleness and decreasing useless information of cloud point data. We use Hough transform to find the horizontal angle between construction and terrestrial LIDAR. This angle is used for the rotation of the cloud point data. The cloud point data can be parallel to x-axis, then y-axis doubleness is increased. Therefore, the cloud point data can be more compressed. In addition, we apply two methods to decrease the number of cloud point data for useless information of them. One is decimation of the cloud point data, the other is to extract the range of y-coordinates of target construction, and then extract the cloud point data existing in the range only. The experimental result shows the performance of proposed scheme. To compress the data, we use only the position information without additional information. Therefore, this scheme can increase processing speed of the compression algorithm.

  • Uterine myomas are heterogeneous tumors in composition, size, location, and number; variation in any of these factors could possibly alter the effect on a woman's fertility status. The effect of myomas on fertility has been the subject of many studies. However, a definitive answer is still missing. The location and size of the myomas are the two parameters that influence the success of a future pregnancy. Subserosal myomas seem to have little effect on reproductive outcome. Myomas that compress the uterine cavity with an intramural portion and submucosal myomas significantly reduce pregnancy rates, and should be removed before assisted reproductive techniques are performed. Patients with intramural myomas also may have a poorer reproductive outcome, but the lacks of quality evaluations make this conclusion tenuous at best. Removal of myomas with an intra-cavitary component seems to be of benefit. However there are as yet no data to support myomectomy in the treatment of intramural myomas to improve fertility outcomes. Treatment modality for myomas located at intramural sites should be determined according to clinical status of the patient and doctor's experience.

  • Recently, to relieve the performance degradation caused by the bottleneck between CPU and main memory, cache conscious multi-dimensional index structures have been proposed. The ultimate goal of them is to reduce the space for entries so as to widen index trees and minimize the number of cache misses. The existing index structures can be classified into two approaches according to their entry reduction methods. One approach is to compress MBR keys by quantizing coordinate values to the fixed number of bits. The other approach is to store only the sides of minimum bounding regions (MBRs) that are different from their parents partially. In this paper, we propose a new index structure that exploits the properties of the both techniques. Then, we investigate the existing multi-dimensional index structures for main memory database system through experiments under the various work loads. We perform various experiments to show that our approach outperforms others.

  • X-Match algorithm is a lossless compression algorithm suitable for hardware implementation owing to its simplicity. It can compress 32 bits per clock cycle and is suitable for real time compression. However, as the bus width increases 64-bit, the compression unit also need to increase. This paper proposes the cooperative parallel X-Match (X-MatchCP) algorithm, which improves the compression speed by performing the two X-Match algorithms in parallel. It searches the all dictionary for two words, combines the compression codes of two words generated by parallel X-Match compression and outputs the combined code while the previous parallel X-Match algorithm searches an individual dictionary. The compression ratio in X-MatchCP is almost the same as in X-Match. X-MatchCP algorithm is described and simulated by Verilog hardware description language.

  • While .NET and J2EE bisects recent distributed environment, .NET displays "Remoting" as a technology to call remote object. Remoting is frequently used as a protocol in OLTP's WEB program development in form of RPC that exchange data in XML form under HTTP environment. Purpose of this research is to draw problems when applying security to .NET remoting technology that is recently used in web programming, and to find effective application plan by implementing. The main discussion is following. First, network layer security should be replaced to application layer security for better performance and flexibility. Second, the serialization procedure that is repeated in both remoting and encryption module should take place once. Lastly, implementation of "Surrogate" and "Compress" will be discussed that enables to eliminate unnecessary data(table relations, keys, etc) that is used in dataset object of .NET in order to reduce the size of data. It is possible to achieve improvement in speed by two times through immediate implementation in these cases. In order for easier use, component based framework should be supplied hereafter.

  • Selectivity estimation for spatial query is very important process used in finding the most efficient execution plan. Many works have been performed to estimate accurate selectivity. Although they deal with some problems such as false-count, multi-count, they can not get such effects in little memory space. Therefore, we propose a new technique called MW Histogram which is able to compress summary data and get reasonable results and has a flexible structure to react dynamic update. Our method is based on two techniques : (a) MinSkew partitioning algorithm which deal with skewed spatial datasets efficiently (b) Wavelet transformation which compression effect is proven. The experimental results showed that the MW Histogram which the buckets and wavelet coefficients ratio is 0.3 is lower relative error than MinSkew Histogram about 5%-20% queries, demonstrates that MW histogram gets a good selectivity in little memory.

  • In high speed cutting process, due to the friction between the tool and workpiece, a temperature rise of contacting part is serious. It need to develop cutting tool for overcoming such a poor condition. So now, some studies, the optimization of tool shapes, the fine grains of tool material, multi-layer coating of tools are processing. If mirror finishing on the tool is processed, there is advantage of relation between chip and tool, because of less friction, and also tool's lift would be increased. As a result mirror like finishing is expected efficient enhancement of tool. Generally, it is too difficult to process by a general way for tools of complex shapes, it is required a new method to process such complex shape tools. The magnetic fluid polishing technique can polish the workpiece of complex shape, because the polishing method which polishes as compress the workpiece by the magnetism abrasives to arrange to the linear according to the line of magnetic force. In this paper, We polished the surface of the high speed cutting tool using the magnetic fluid polishing technique, to enhance the performance of the high speed cutting tool.

  • Korea Gas Corporation(KOGAS) is a Liquified Natural Gas(LNG) supplier through out the Korea. LNG, which is imported wholly from foreign countries, is compressed 1/600 for easy transportation and is stored in a liquid state in the storage tanks at Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Tongyeong. At LNG receiving terminals, LNG is vaporized to natural gas before supplying to City Gas Consumer or Power Plant. The secondary pump is a equipment which compress LNG from $10 kgf/cm^2$ to $70 kgf/cm^2$. The secondary pump at Tongyeong LNG receiving terminal is consisted of two pumps in one underground PIT, and is connected to supporting structures. It is therefore expected that there is a vibration problem with the pump and was found that high level vibration was occurred in a low frequency band(5${\~}$10Hz). In this paper, the vibration of secondary pump was analyzed, and the main cause of vibration was found out.

  • Our laboratory originally developed the compact, multi-spectral, automatic aerial photographic system PKNU3 to allow greater flexibility in geological and environmental data collection. We are currently developing the PKNU3 system, which consists of a color-infrared spectral camera capable of simultaneous photography in the visible and near-infrared bands; a thermal infrared camera; two computers, each with an 80-gigabyte memory capacity for storing images; an MPEG board that can compress and transfer data to the computers in real-time; and the capability of using a helicopter platform. Before actual aerial photographic testing of the PKNU3, we experimented with each sensor. We analyzed the lens distortion, the sensitivity of the CCD in each band, and the thermal response of the thermal infrared sensor before the aerial photographing. As of September 2004, the PKNU3 development schedule has reached the second phase of testing. As the result of two aerial photographic tests, R, G, B and IR images were taken simultaneously; and images with an overlap rate of 70% using the automatic 1-s interval data recording time could be obtained by PKNU3. Further study is warranted to enhance the system with the addition of gyroscopic and IMU units. We evaluated the PKNU 3 system as a method of environmental remote sensing by comparing each chlorophyll image derived from PKNU 3 photographs. This appraisement was backed up with existing study that resulted in a modest improvement in the linear fit between the measures of chlorophyll and the RVI, NDVI and SAVI images stem from photographs taken by Duncantech MS 3100 which has same spectral configuration with MS 4000 used in PKNU3 system.

  • In ultrasound telemedicine, it is important to reduce the size of the data by compressing the ultrasound image when sending it. Ultrasound images can be divided into image context and other information consisting of patient ID, date, and several letters. Between them, ultrasound context is very important information for diagnosis and should be securely preserved as much as possible. In several previous papers, ultrasound compression methods were proposed to compress ultrasound context and other information into different compression parameters. This ultrasound compression method minimized the loss of ultrasound context while greatly compressing other information. This paper proposed the method of automatic segmentation of ultrasound context to overcome the limitation of the previously described ultrasound compression method. This algorithm was designed to robust for various ultrasound device and to enable real-time operation to maintain the benefits of ultrasound imaging machine. The operation time of extracting ultrasound context through the proposed segmentation method was measured, and it took 311.11 ms. In order to optimize the algorithm, the ultrasound context was segmented with down sampled input image. When the resolution of the input image was reduced by half, the computational time was 126.84 ms. When the resolution was reduced by one-third, it took 45.83 ms to segment the ultrasound context. As a result, we verified through experiments that the proposed method works in real time.
