  • Changes occurring in jute and coir fiber composites with 2-8% concentration of a NaOH treatment for 24 h were investigated, respectively, for void content, microscopy images, mechanical properties and water absorption. The jute and coir fibers were vacuum dried before molding composite specimens. Mechanical properties indicated good adhesion between natural fibers and PP. Jute fibers, when alkali-treated with 2% concentration for 24 h, showed best improvement in tensile strength by 40% and modulus by 9%, respectively, while coir fibers, when alkali-treated with 6% concentration for 24 h, showed best improvement in tensile strengths by 62% and modulus by 17%, respectively. With 2% concentration of alkali-treatments, the elongation of jute and coir composites reached 8% and 13.5%, respectively. Moisture absorption for jute and coir composites are 50% and 60% lower than untreated fiber composites, respectively.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the strength characteristics of mortar with lime composites using natural fiber or superplasticizer. Lime composites consist of lime and pozzolan materials. Flow according to adding natural fiber decreased and mortar proportion added cellulose fiber showed a higher strength characterisitics than other natural fiber. but compressive and shear strength in use of superplasticizer is not effective largely. In addition, lime composites, as an environment-friendly material, may help reduse $CO_2$, and save the energy. also this materials can be recycled in environmental aspects. afterwards, further in-depth studies will be necessary for cracks and durability with respect to its wide different applications, in applying it as a construction material.

  • This comprehensive study delves into the intricate process of exfoliating and functionalizing boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) extracted from hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), and meticulously explores their potential application within epoxy composites. The extensive research methodology encompasses a sequence of treatments involving hydrothermal and sonication processes aimed at augmenting the dispersion of BNNSs in solvents. Leveraging advanced analytical techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and FTIR spectroscopy, the study rigorously analyzes a spectrum of changes in the BNNS's properties, including layer count variations, interlayer interactions, crystal structure modifications, and the introduction of functional groups. The research also rigorously evaluates the impact of integrating BNNSs, specifically glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-functionalized BNNSs, on the thermal conductivity of epoxy composites. The conclusive findings exhibit notable enhancements in thermal properties, predominantly attributed to the enhanced dispersion of fillers and enhanced interactions within the epoxy matrix. This pioneering work illuminates the wide potential of functionalized BNNSs for significantly enhancing the thermal conductivity of epoxy composites, paving the way for advanced materials engineering and practical applications.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the water absorption and thickness swelling of biocomposites at room temperature. These properties of bio-composites mainly depend on the ability of the agro-flour to absorb water through hydrogen bonding between water and the hydroxyl groups of the holocellulose and lignin in the cell wall. As the content of agro-flour increased, the water absorption and thickness swelling of the bio-composites increased. The effects of agro-flour content and rice husk flour (RHF) particle size on the water absorption and thickness swelling of the bio-composites were evaluated. In general, wood-based materials showed significantly higher water absorption and thickness swelling than the bio-composites. This might be attributed to the ability of the polybutylene succinate (PBS) hydrophobic polymer to prohibit the water absorption and thickness swelling of the bio-composites, Therefore, the use of agro-flour filled PBS bio-composites, which exhibit improved dimensional stability in comparison with wood-based materials, is recommended.

  • In this work, effects of oxygen plasma on surface characteristics of carbon fibers were investigated in mechanical properties interfacial of carbon fibers-reinforced composites. The surface properties of the carbon fibers were determined by acid/base values, FT-IR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Also, the mechanical properties of the composites were studied in and critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) and critical strain energy release rate mode II ($G_{IIC}$) measurements. As experimental results, the $O_{lS}/C_{lS}$ ratio of the carbon fiber surfaces treated by oxygen plasma was increased compared to that of untreated ones, possibly due to development of oxygen-containing functional groups. The mechanical properties of the composites, including $K_{IC}$ and $G_{IIC}$ had been improved in the oxygen plasma on fibers. These results could be explained that the oxygen plasma was resulted in the increase of the adhesion of between fibers and matrix in a composite system.

  • UV curable adhesives with different acrylic functionalities were synthesized for temporary bonding and debonding process in 3D multi-chip packaging process. The aim is to study various factors which have an influence on UV curing. The properties and curing behaviors were investigated by gel fraction, peel strength, probe tack, and shear adhesion failure temperature. The results show that the properties and curing behaviors are dependent on not only acrylic functionalities of binders but also UV doses and coating thickness.

  • In reverse engineering, one of the main tasks is reconstructing the mechanical properties of used materials. For an isotropic material, it could be defined by a single tensile test using a coupon extracted from the structure. In contrast, CFRP composites require many tests and complex procedures to define all the material properties because CFRP is an orthotropic material and a stacked laminate. In this paper, the procedure to reconstruct composite material properties is studied by using the classical lamination theory and the test data of three different laminates from a composite structure. A sample reconstruction of composite material properties using a composite car body is introduced to verify the method.

  • The growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was carried out using ratio frequency plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (rf PECVD) system equipped with dc bias for the directional growth. Acetylene and ammonia gas were used as the carbon source and a catalyst. The relation between gas flow rate and dc bias on the growth of CNTs was investigated. We studied the relation between emission properties and the directionality of CNTs grown under different dc bias voltage.
