This study aimed to investigate the flexural behavior of precast concrete (PC) wall - steel shoe composite assemblies with various dry connection details at mid-span. Flexural tests were performed for five scenarios. Test parameters included the width of test specimens, arrangement of steel shoe connectors, and use of structural adhesive or waterproof tape at the mid-span joint. The test results showed that the PC wall - steel shoe composite assemblies joined at mid-span showed flexural damage patterns combined with rotational deformation, and the structural performance was satisfactory regardless of the arrangement of steel shoe connectors. Considering the two deformation components (flexural deformation by bending and rotational deformation due to joint opening), a theoretical model was proposed to analyze flexural strength and joint opening, and the simple model gave good predictions with acceptable accuracy.

A new kind of partially precast or prefabricated castellated steel reinforced concrete beam, which is abbreviated here as CPSRC beam, was presented and introduced in this paper. This kind of CPSRC beam is composed of a precast outer-part and a cast-in-place inner-part. The precast outer-part is composed of an encased castellated steel shape, reinforcement bars and high performance concrete. The cast-in-place inner-part is made of common strength concrete, and is casted with the floor slabs simultaneously. In order to investigate the shear performance of the CPSRC beam, experiments of six CPSRC T-beam specimens, together with experiments of one cast-in-place SRC control T-beam specimen were conducted. All the specimens were subjected to sagging bending moment (or positive moment). In the tests, the influence of casting different strength of concrete in the cross section on the shear performance of the PPSRC beam was firstly emphasized, and the effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio on that were also especially taken into account too. During the tests, the shear force-deflection curves were recorded, while the strains of concrete, the steel shapes as well as the reinforcement stirrups at the shear zone of the specimens were also measured, and the crack propagation pattern together with the failure pattern was as well observed in detail. Based on the test results, the shear failure mechanism was clearly revealed, and the effect of the concrete strength and shear span-to-depth ratios were investigated. The shear capacity of such kind of CPSRC was furthermore discussed, and the influences of the holes on the steel shape on the shear performance were particularly analyzed.

In this paper, concrete-filled steel tubular columns encased with precast reinforced concrete were studied. Four eccentrically loaded columns and a concentrically loaded column were tested to investigate the axial load-carrying capacity. The test parameters were the use of fiber reinforcement for cover concrete, eccentricity, column length, and lateral reinforcement. The maximum axial loads of the specimens agreed with the nominal strengths predicted by KBC 2009. However, in some specimens, the load carrying capacity quickly decreased after the peak strength due to spalling of the cover concrete.
Hollow core slabs generally have not been used for a bridge or a parking slab in Korea. In this study, high performance hollow core slabs, which have been the most thick one in domestic are re-designed and examined for practical use. Flexural tests were performed on four 315mm deep hollow core slabs to investigate adaptability for high vehicle live loadings and composite action with topping concrete. The precast slabs were pre-tensioned with ten strands of 1/2 inch diameter at the lower of slab and four strands of 1/2 inch diameter at the upper of slab, and cast with 80 mm deep topping concrete. Tested hollow core slabs showed ductile failure behaviors which were conformed to the current Ultimate Strength Design Method for a span of 10m up to the live load of 1,000 kgf/㎡. The rectangular md round shear cotters which were used for the composite action between precast and topping concrete, developed sufficient strengths because cracking, even micro had not been developed at the end of slabs up to the pure flexural tensile failure.

The full-width, full-depth precast panel system is very efficient for the rehabilitation of deteriorated decks as well as for new bridge construction.. The horizontal bond strength at the interface between the two interconnected elements is of primary importance in order to achieve composite action. The strength of the bond between the two precast members should be high enough to prevent any progressive slip from taking place. However, the case when both of the interconnected elements are precast members bonded by means of grout, is not currently addressed by KBDC or AASHTO. This is the main impetus for this study. A total 43 push-off tests were performed to evaluate the horizontal bond strength and to recommend the best practice for the system. Test parameters included different interface surface conditions, different amount and different types of shear connectors. The presence of the shear keys at the top surface of the beam increased the interface bond capacity tremendously compared to the bond capacity with a different surface conditions.

In order to evaluate the shear strength of stud connectors in composite bridges using lightweight concrete decks, static push-out tests were performed. Sixteen push-out specimens were tested during this investigation. The test program consisted of two groups according to deck type, one is cast-in-place(CIP) concrete deck, the other is precast concrete deck. The experimental parameters were concrete compressive strength and bedding layer thickness. Based on the experimental results, the ultimate shear strength and the stiffness of shear connectors in lightweight concrete decks are assessed.

In the connection of green frame, the bottom rebar of the precast concrete beam needs joint or anchorage to ensure structural integrity. However, given the characteristics of composite precast concrete joint, enough length over which rebar can be anchored or lap-spliced is not secured. In addition, due to issues with constructability, cost or quality, it is difficult to apply welding or mechanical connection techniques. Therefore, this study analyze the requirement for a bolt-type rebar coupler as a solution for the coupling issue between the lower rebars of green frame beam. The requirement for bolt-type rebar coupler proposed herein will provide basic data for development studies of the rebar coupler.
In order to improve the constructability and meanwhile ensure excellent seismic behavior, several innovative composite connection details were conceived and studied by the authors. This paper reports experimental results and observations on seismic behavior of steel beam bolted to reinforced concrete column connections (bolted RCS or BRCS). The proposed composite connection details involve post tensioning the end plates of the steel beams to the reinforced concrete or precast concrete columns using high-strength steel rods. A rational design procedure was proposed to assure a ductile behavior of the composite structure. Strut-and-tie model analysis indicates that a bolted composite connection has a favorable stress transfer mechanism. The excellent capacity and behavior were then validated through five full-scale beam to column connection model tests.
Currently, the multi-residential apartments used in Korea are mostly bearing wall apartments which don't satisfy consumers for the lack of architectural plan flexibility. And due to remodelling-incompatible, bearing wall apartments have to be reconstructed. It is, thus, necessary to develop multi-residential apartments utilizing composite beam that can replace the conventional bearing wall-type apartment buildings. Composite beams proposed in this paper ensure modification of space and quality control, while the floor heights are maintained at the same floor height as in bearing wall structures. This study analyzes the experimental behavior of composite beams with proper combination of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and precast concrete. By comparing with the theoretical analysis and experimental results, the accuracy of flexural moment capacity and neutral axis was evaluated. The experiments were performed by two simply-supported specimens using loading and unloading. When the analysis results were compared with the experimental results, the flexural moment capacity of the composite beam was shown with an error of approximately -0.5 to 0.1% at the maximum load limit state.
With the aim to put forward the analytical model for calculating the shear capacity of precast steel reinforced concrete (PSRC) beams, a static test on two full-scale PSRC specimens was conducted under four-point loading, and the failure modes and strain developments of the specimens were critically investigated. Based on the test results, a modified truss-arch model was proposed to analyze the shear mechanisms of PSRC and cast-in-place SRC beams. In the proposed model, the overall shear capacity of PSRC and cast-in-place SRC beams can be obtained by combining the shear capacity of encased steel shape with web concrete determined by modified Nakamura and Narita model and the shear capacity of reinforced concrete part determined by compatible truss-arch model which can consider both the contributions of concrete and stirrups to shear capacity in the truss action as well as the contribution of arch action through compatibility of deformation. Finally, the proposed model is compared with other models from JGJ 138 and AISC 360 using the available SRC beam test data consisting of 75 shear-critical PSRC and SRC beams. The results indicate that the proposed model can improve the accuracy of shear capacity predictions for shear-critical PSRC and cast-in-place SRC beams, and relatively conservative results can be obtained by the models from JGJ 138 and AISC 360.
