  • During a hemisphere-type compression molding, the wrinkles are caused by complex stress condition. It is very important to clarify the degree of wrinkles in order to have good products. In this paper, the effects of numbers of needling and initial area on the degree of wrinkles are studied. the degree of wrinkle is expressed as nonhomogeneity.

  • The central composite design is widely used for estimating second order response surfaces. This type of design is composed of $2^k$ factorial points, axial points and center points. In this paper, we suggest a version of central composite design where the positions of the axial points are indicated by two numbers, and study properties of this design. We obtain the variances and covariances of the estimators of the regression coefficients. Conditions are obtained for this design to be orthogonal and rotatable. This design is compared with other designs on the basis of efficiency.

  • This paper deals with the torsional buckling behavior of plain weave GFRP composite cylindrical shells having comparatively small length-to-diameter ratio. Boundary conditions corresponding to clamped ends and simply supported ends are considered. Torsional buckling loads and circumferential mode numbers according to the variation of shell length-to-radius ratio are conformed. To verify the availability of the theoretical results, comparison with the theoretical and experimental results are made.

  • A number of different curve numbers are estimated, and three of them are the basin or composite curve numbers (CN-II and CN-III) evaluated from hydrologic soil cover complex, the observed curve numbers computed from rainfal1-runoff observations and the basin median curve numbers as a median of the observed curve numbers. Based on the observed runoff, CM-II underestimates the effective rainfall meanwhile CN-III overestimates. Hence, for the improvement in estimating effective rainfall, a modulating curve number may be defined as a value in between CN-II and CN-III. Basin median curve numbers produces the closest result to the observed runoff and therefore it can be adopted as a representative curve number for gaged basin.

  • This study is about the number expressed and the number not expressed in terms of the sum of consecutive natural numbers with a difference of 2k. Since it is difficult to generalize in cases of onsecutive positive integers with a difference of 2k, the table of cases of 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 was examined to find the normality and to prove the hypothesis through the results. Generalized guesswork through tables was made to establish and prove the hypothesis of the number of possible and impossible numbers that are to all consecutive natural numbers with a difference of 2k. Finally, it was possible to verify the possibility and impossibility of the sum of consecutive cases of 124 and 2010. It is expected to be investigated the sum of consecutive natural numbers with a difference of 2k + 1, as a future research task.

  • In the present paper, free vibration analysis of angle-ply laminated composite annular and circular plates is performed by numerical methods. First-order shear deformation plate theory is used for kinematic relations. The related governing equations of motion are discretized via differential quadrature and discrete singular convolution methods. Frequency values are obtained for different lamina scheme, thickness-to-radius ratio, and mode numbers. The advantages and accuracy of these two methods are also tested in detail.

  • Let ℤ and ℚ be the ring of integers and the field of rational numbers, respectively. Let h(ℤ, ℚ) be the ring of composite Hurwitz polynomials. In this paper, we study the factorization of composite Hurwitz polynomials in h(ℤ, ℚ). We show that every nonzero nonunit element of h(ℤ, ℚ) is a finite *-product of quasi-primary elements and irreducible elements of h(ℤ, ℚ). By using a relation between usual polynomials in ℚ[x] and composite Hurwitz polynomials in h(ℤ, ℚ), we also give a necessary and sufficient condition for composite Hurwitz polynomials of degree ≤ 3 in h(ℤ, ℚ) to be irreducible.

  • This study is concerned with the stability of laminated composite plates modelled using Eringen's nonlocal differential model (ENDM) and a novel refined-hyperbolic-shear-deformable plate theory. The plate is assumed to be lying on the Pasternak elastic foundation and is under the influence of an in-plane magnetic field. The governing equations and boundary conditions are obtained through Hamilton's principle. An analytical approach considering Navier series is used to fine the critical bucking load. After verifying with existing results for the reduced cases, the present model is then used to study buckling of the laminated composite plate. Numerical results demonstrate clearly for the first time the roles of size effects, magnetic field, foundation parameters, moduli ratio, geometry, lay-up numbers and sequences, fiber orientations, and boundary conditions. These results could be useful for designing better composites and can further serve as benchmarks for future studies on the laminated composite plates.

  • A A12024-T3 plate has been reinforced with AFRP to be a Hybrid-Composite, APAL. The fatigue life of the APAL has been investigated. The effects of bonding surface, numbers of AFRP bonded and AFRP orientation on fatigue life have been compared with A12024-T3 plate. Fatigue life of APAL has been remarkedly increased compared with that of A12024-T3 plate. The fatigue life has depended on bonding surface and AFRP orientation, but no relationship could be found with numbers of AFRP laminates.

  • In this paper, the electromechanical displacements of curved actuators using laminated composites are calculated by finite element method to design the optimal configuration of curved actuators. To predict the pre-stress in the device due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion, the carbon-epoxy and glass- epoxy as well as PZT ceramic is also numerically modeled by using hexahedral solid elements. Because the modeling of these thin layers causes the numbers of degree of freedom to increase, large-scale structural analyses are performed in a cluster system in this study. The curved shape and pre-stress in the actuator are obtained by the cured curvature analysis. The displacement under the piezoelectric force by an applied voltage is also calculated to compare the performance of curved actuator. The thickness of composite is chosen as design factor.
