Alizarin dye, a persistent and hazardous contaminant in aquatic environments, presents a pressing environmental concern. In the quest for efficient removal methods, adsorption has emerged as a versatile and sustainable approach. This study focuses on the development and application of Zinc Oxide/Nickel Oxide (ZnO/NiO) nano-composites as adsorbents for alizarin dye removal. These semiconducting metal oxide nano-composites exhibit synergistic properties, offering enhanced adsorption capabilities. Key parameters affecting alizarin removal, such as contact time, adsorbent dosage, pH, and temperature, were systematically investigated. Notably, the ZnO/NiO nano-composite demonstrated superior performance, with a maximum alizarin removal percentage of 76.9 % at pH 6. The adsorption process followed a monolayer pattern, as suggested by the Langmuir model. The pseudo-second-order kinetics model provided a good fit to the experimental data. Thermodynamic analysis indicated that the process is endothermic and thermodynamically favorable. These findings underscore the potential of ZnO/NiO nano-composites as effective and sustainable adsorbents for alizarin dye removal, with promising applications in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.
In the study, fire extinguishing concentration of $K_2CO_3$-Zeolite composite was measured. Zeolite composite is a porous adsorbent which has small particle size, low density and anti-catalytic effect. Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-Ray diffraction and thermal analysis were also conducted to investigate the structural properties of composite. The result showed that despite of weight ratio, the extinguishing concentration of the composite was lower than pure $K_2CO_3$. The extinguishing concentration of $K_2CO_3$-Zeolite composite which has weight ratio of 7 : 3 was 5.72 times lower than that of pure $K_2CO_3$ and 1.1 times lower than that of ABC powder. The SEM and XRD patterns showed that $K_2CO_3$ was adsorbed on the Zeolite properly, and through the thermal analysis, it was founded that the composite is more effective extinguishing agent than pure $K_2CO_3$.
Activated carbon (AC) was synthesized from Phoenix dactylifera stones and then modified by $CoFe_2O_4$ magnetic nanocomposite for use as a Cr(VI) adsorbent. Both $AC/CoFe_2O_4$ composite and AC were fully characterized by FTIR, SEM, XRD, TEM, TGA, and VSM techniques. Based on the surface analyses, the addition of $CoFe_2O_4$ nanoparticles had a significant effect on the thermal stability and crystalline structure of AC. Factors affecting chromium removal efficiency like pH, dosage, contact time, temperature, and initial Cr(VI) concentration were investigated. The best pH was found 2 and 3 for Cr adsorption by AC and $AC/CoFe_2O_4$ composite, respectively. The presence of ion sulfate had a greater effect on the chromium sorption efficiency than nitrate and chlorine ions. The results illustrated that both adsorbents can be used up to seven times to adsorb chromium. The adsorption process was examined by three isothermal models, and Freundlich was chosen as the best one. The experimental data were well fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The half-life ($t_{1/2}$) of hexavalent chromium using AC and $AC/CoFe_2O_4$ magnetic composite was obtained as 5.18 min and 1.52 min, respectively. Cr(VI) adsorption by AC and $AC/CoFe_2O_4$ magnetic composite was spontaneous and exothermic. In general, our study showed that the composition of $CoFe_2O_4$ magnetic nanoparticles with AC can increase the adsorption capacity of AC from 36 mg/L to 70 mg/L.

In this work, a composite formed by adding loess with lanthanium ("La-Loess") was proposed for effective removal of phosphate found in confined water bodies such as lake and reservoir. It was found that the theoretical maximum amount of lanthanum that can be attached to Loess was 2.68 mg La/g Loess. The phosphate removal was enhanced as an added amount of La-Loess composite increased. Furthermore, there was a noticeable difference in phosphate removal between Loess and La-Loess as the latter required 1.5 to 10 times less Loess than the former. Both Isotherm equations of Freundlich and Langmuir can be used to explain the phosphate adsorption characteristics in using La-Loess composites. The phosphate removal was very effective in the pH range of 5~8, which means that the proposed adsorbent can be directly applied to natural water without adjusting pH. Also, the La-Loess composites were well settled within 30 min without causing turbidity in water. Consequently, the proposed La-Loess can be strongly recommended for phosphate removal in confined water bodies.

This study developed a dry composite module-type deodorization facility with Twisting airflow changes and two forms (catalyst, adsorbent) within one module. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the reduction efficiency of odor substances C8H7N and C9H9N. The device combines UV oxidation using TiO2, catalytic oxidation using MnO2, and adsorption using A/C in five different methods. Data analysis of experimental results utilized the statistical package program Python 3.12. The program applied frequency analysis of odor removal efficiency, one-way ANOVA, and post-hoc tests, with statistical significance determined by p-value to ensure reliability and validity of the measurements. Results indicated that the highest removal efficiency of C8H7N and C9H9N was achieved by the UV+A/C method, suggesting the superior effectiveness and efficiency of the developed device. Combining multiple processes and technologies within one module enhanced odor treatment efficiency compared to using a single method. The device's modularity allows for flexibility in adapting to various sewage treatment scenarios, offering easy maintenance and cost-effective deodorization. This composite reaction module device can apply multiple technologies, such as biofilters, plasma, activated carbon filters, UV-photocatalysis, and electromagnetic-chemical systems. However, this study focused on UV-photocatalysis, catalysts, and activated carbon filters. Ultimately, the research demonstrates the practical applicability of this innovative device in real sewage treatment operations, showing excellent reduction efficiency and effectiveness by integrating UV oxidation, TiO2 photocatalysis, MnO2 catalytic oxidation, and A/C adsorption within a modular system.
Prussian blue (PB) is well known for its excellent $Cs^+$ ions adsorption capacity. Due to the high dispersibility of PB in aqueous phase, composite materials imbedding PB in supporting materials have been introduced as a solution. However, building PB particles inside porous supporting materials is still difficult, as PB particles are not fully formed and elute out to water. In this study, we suggest layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly to provide better immobilization of PB on supporting materials of poly vinyl alcohol sponge (PVA) and cellulose filter (CF). Three different PB attachment methods, ex-situ/in-situ/LBL assembly, were evaluated using PB leaching test as well as $Cs^+$ adsorption test. Changes of surface functionality and morphology during PB composite preparation protocols were monitored through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that LBL assembly led to better PB attachment on supporting materials, bringing less eluting PB particles in aqueous phase compared to other synthesis methodologies, such as ex-situ and in-situ synthesis. By enhancing the stability of the adsorbent, adsorption capacity of PVA-PB with LBL improved nine times and that of CF-PB improved over 20 times. Therefore, the results suggest that LBL assembly offers a better orientation for growing PB particles on porous supporting materials.
The composites of alginate, carbon nanotube, and iron(III) oxide were prepared for the removal of heavy metal in aqueous pollutant. Both alginate and carbon nanotube were used as an adsorbent material and iron oxide was introduced for the easy recovery after removal of heavy metal to eliminate the secondary pollution. The morphology of composites was investigated by FE-SEM showing the carbon nanotubes coated with alginate and the iron oxide dispersed in the alginate matrix. The ferromagnetic properties of composites were shown by including iron(III) oxide additive. The copper ion removal was investigated with ICP AES. The copper ion removal efficiency increased greatly over 60% by using alginate-carbon nanotube composites.

A central composite design and response surface methodology were applied to investigate the optimum conditions for maximum adsorption capacity in activated alumina as an adsorbent. The optimized conditions were determined for adsorption capacity using variables of flow rate and temperature. It was found that flow rate and temperature greatly influenced the adsorption capacity, as determined by analysis of variance analysis of these variables. Statistical checks indicated that second order polynomial equations were adequate for representing the experimental values. The optimum conditions for adsorption capacity were $0^{\circ}C$ and 2,718 mL/min, with the estimated maximum adsorption capacity of 17.82%. The experimental adsorption capacity was 17.75% under these optimum conditions, which was in agreement with the predicted value of 17.82%.

As global warming becomes serious, research is continuously being conducted to reduce CO2 emissions. Among building materials, the carbon emission of cement is so high that it accounts for 6.8% of the carbon emission of the entire industry. Studies replacement of cement with blast furnace slag and fly ash are steadily increasing. In addition, efforts are being made to reduce air pollution due to increased damage caused by increased concentrations of harmful substances such as fine dust and heavy metals in the air. There is an increasing number of studies that enable adsorption by mixing adsorbents into building materials. This study reviewed the strength properties to make an adsorbable non-cement finishing material by mixing tourmaline, an adsorbent, based on the non-cement composite, and confirmed that the strength decreases as the replacement ratio increases.
In this study, the adsorption decolorization process of sea buckthorn oil was carried out to verify the possibility of the sea buckthorn oil as a natural UV absorber. The optimization was carried out by using the central composite design model-response surface methodology (CCD-RSM). The response values of CCD-RSM were selected as the decolorization effect through the process, acid value after decolorization, and UV absorbance of the decolored oil at 290nm. The amount of adsorbent, temperature and time were selected as the process variables for the experiments. According to the results of CCD-RSM, the results of optimization were all consistent. The optimal conditions, which satisfy CCD-RSM statically and mathematically, were 4.32 wt.%, 134.90 ℃, and 19.8 min for the amount of adsorbent, temperature and time, respectively. The estimated response values expected under these optimal conditions values were 94.78%, 2.08 mg/g KOH, and 2.91 for the decolorization effect, acid value and UV absorbance at 290 nm, respectively. Also the average error from actual experiment for verifying the conclusions was smaller than 2%. Therefore, it was confirmed that the application of CCD-RSM to the adsorption decolorization process of sea buckthorn oil showed a very high level of acceptable results and that the sea buckthorn oil has high possibility to be used as a natural UV absorber.
