Composite action of notched circular CFT stub columns under axial compression

  • This paper conducted both numerical and theoretical studies to investigate the composite action of notched circular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFT) stub columns under axial compression and established a theoretical method to predict their ultimate bearing capacity. 3D finite element (FE) analysis was conducted to simulate the composite action and the results were in good agreement with experimental results on circular CFT stub columns with differently oriented notches in steel tubes. Parametric study was conducted to understand the effects of different parameters on the mechanical behavior of circular CFT stub columns and also the composite action between the steel tube and the core concrete. Based on the results, a theoretical formula was proposed to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of notched CFT stub columns under compression with consideration of the composite action between the steel tube and the core concrete.

  • This paper presents the theoretical analysis method to determine the stress concentrations around the circular cutouts with various geometrical parameters. The purposes of this study are to investigate on the stress distribution around the circular cutouts due to interaction between two circular cutouts and to develop the design method in composite plates. The composite laminated plate with 2 equal collinear circular cutouts under inplane loads is treated as an quasi-isotropic, symmetric, finite, square, multiply connected and thin plate. The effects of cutout sizes, distances between two circular cutouts and inplane load conditions on stress distribution are studied in detail.

Experimental studies of circular composite bridge piers for seismic loading

  • This study proposes and examines a circular composite bridge pier for seismic resistance. The axial and flexural strengths of the proposed bridge pier are provided by the longitudinal reinforcing bars and the concrete, while the transverse reinforcements used in the conventional reinforced concrete pier are replaced by the steel tube. The shear strength of this composite pier relies on the steel tube and the concrete. This system is similar to the steel jacketing method which strengthens the existing reinforced concrete bridge piers. However, no transverse shear reinforcing bar is used in the proposed composite bridge pier. A series of experimental studies is conducted to investigate the seismic resistant characteristics of the proposed circular composite pier. The effects of the longitudinal reinforcing bars, the shear span-to-diameter ratio, and the thickness of the steel tube on the performance of strength, ductility, and energy dissipation of the proposed pier are discussed. The experimental results show that the strength of the proposed circular composite bridge pier can be predicted accurately by the similar method used in the reinforced concrete piers with minor modification. From these experimental studies, it is found that the proposed circular composite bridge pier not only simplifies the construction work greatly but also provides excellent ductility and energy dissipation capacity under seismic lateral force.

인벌류우트-圓弧 合成齒形의 諸特性 (Mechanical characteristics of involute-circular arc composite tooth profile)

  • 본 연구에서는 랙의 이끝부분을 full-rounded tip으로 설계한 후, 이에 의하 여 창성되는 피니언의 이뿌리곡선을 구하여 전체치형을 완성하였다. 그리고 합성치 형기어의 미끄름율, 유효이뿌리원에서의 공칭굽힘응력과 두쌍접촉호의 길이대 원호부 분접촉호의 길이의 비인 접촉계수를 해석적인 방법으로 구하였다.또한 이들 특성들 과 물림율등 제특성을 비교.검토하여 공구압력각, 인벌류우트부분의 크기를 나타내는 물림각 및 원호반경등의 변화에 대한 제특성의 변화를 고려한 합성치형의 성능을 향상 시킬 수 있는 설계방법을 구하였으며, 합성치형과 표준인버류우트치형을 비교하였다.

Buckling behavior of pultruded composite beams with circular cutouts

  • In this experimental and numerical study, the effect of plate thickness, the diameter of circular cutout, the distance between circular cutouts and rowing orientation angle effect (${\theta}$) on the buckling load of E-glass/vinylester pultruded composite beams with single and double circular cutouts, were investigated. The composite beam having 2, 4, and 6 mm thicknesses was produced as [Mat/${\theta}$ /Mat/${\theta}$ /Mat] by using pultrusion technique. Seven different fiber angles as $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ were chosen for investigation of rowing orientation angle. The distances between each circular cutout were selected as 15, 30, 45, 60, and 75 mm in the case of double circular cutouts. The diameters of circular cutouts were chosen as 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm to investigate the effect of cutout size. The experimental buckling loads were compared with the results calculated from the numerical analysis. ANSYS 11 commercial software was used for numerical study. A good agreement was obtained between numerical and experimental results.

비원형 폐합쉘의 좌굴특성 (Buckling Characteristic of Non-Circular Closed Composite Shells)

  • 본 연구는 원형 및 비원형(타원형)단면을 갖는 복합폐합쉘의 좌굴하중 및 모드형상을 비교 분석하였다. 이때, 면내 회전자유도를 갖는 평면응력 요소와 추가변형률과 대체전단변형률을 도입한 휨 요소를 결합한 4절점 쉘 요소(4EAS-FS)를 작성하여 좌굴해석을 수행하였다. 해석모델의 매개변수는 기하학적 형상, 종횡비 및 화이버 보강각도로 설정하여 그에 따른 영향을 고찰하였다. 본 연구에서 제시한 원형 및 비원형 단면을 갖는 폐합쉘의 임계좌굴하중과 모드형상에 대한 폐합쉘 길이, 두께, 단면계수 및 화이버 보강각도 등 설계변수의 영향을 비교 분석하였다.

The Strength Evaluation on Repaired Plain Woven CFRP Composite with a Circular Hole

  • The CFRP composite has unique properties that offer high strength and stiffness, even though it has light weight. Therefore it can be used in many industrial applications. When mechanical fasteners are used for joining composites, high stress concentrations appear near the edge of holes prepared for accommodating structural bolts and rivets. This presence of high stress concentrations can be a source of damage. The aim of this work is to evaluate fracture behavior and patterns of plain woven CFRP with circular hole and repairing patch element. The maximum strength and pattern for the plain woven carbon composite specimen with the repaired circular hole were examined. From the results, we show that repairing of the CFRP composite specimen with ($\pi$) 3~5 mm of circular hole diameter results in load rising effect and the repairing is more effective as bigger hole specimen.

  • 본 논문에서는 동력전달용 기어에 주로 쓰이는 물림률 1.3 이상일 때, 치면접 촉응력과 공칭굽힘응력이 작게되는 풀림각 1˚로 고정하여 잇수 30∼100개 압력각 14˚∼30˚의 범위에서 최소 원호반경식과 치형 조건을 만족하는 최대 원호반경식에 대하여 고찰하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 인벌류우트와 원고치형의 단점을 보완하고 양자의 장점을 취한 치형을 얻기위하여 피치점 부근에서는 인벌류우트치형으로 이끝부분에서는 원호로 하 고 이뿌리부분에서는 상대방 기어의 원호부분과 맞물릴 수 있는 곡선으로 하는 치형을 합성하고, 이 합성치형의 유효치형을 가공할 수 있는 랙치형을 이론적인 방법으로 구 하였다. 그리고, 이 합성치형의 유효치형에 대한 이끝과 이뿌리 두께의 변화와 물림 률을 검토하였다.

Vibration of angle-ply laminated composite circular and annular plates

  • In the present paper, free vibration analysis of angle-ply laminated composite annular and circular plates is performed by numerical methods. First-order shear deformation plate theory is used for kinematic relations. The related governing equations of motion are discretized via differential quadrature and discrete singular convolution methods. Frequency values are obtained for different lamina scheme, thickness-to-radius ratio, and mode numbers. The advantages and accuracy of these two methods are also tested in detail.
