In the development of high-speed trains, ride comfort is an important factor that determines the quality of the train. In this study, the ride comforts of high-speed trains with rigid and flexible car bodies were evaluated. The rail irregularity is used as an exciting source of the car-body bounce motion. The complex extruded structures of the car-body are modeled as shell structures using the calculated equivalent stiffness of the flexible model. The numerical results show that the ride of the rigid-body model improves as the speed increases, which is unreasonable. In contrast, the relationship between ride comfort and speed in the case of flexible-body model is reasonable. Thus, it is confirmed that the flexibility of the car body needs to be taken into consideration while fabricating a high-speed train.
Shear walls are a typical member under a complex stress state and have complicated mechanical properties and failure modes. The separated-elements model Genetic Evolutionary Structural Optimization (GESO), which is a combination of an elastic-plastic stress method and an optimization method, has been introduced in the literature for designing such members. Although the separated-elements model GESO method is well recognized due to its stability, feasibility, and economy, its adequacy has not been experimentally verified. This paper seeks to validate the adequacy of the separated-elements model GESO method against experimental data and demonstrate its feasibility and advantages over the traditional elastic stress method. Two types of reinforced concrete shear wall specimens, which had the location of an opening in the middle bottom and the center region, respectively, were utilized for this study. For each type, two specimens were designed using the separated-elements model GESO method and elastic stress method, respectively. All specimens were subjected to a constant vertical load and an incremental lateral load until failure. Test results indicated that the ultimate bearing capacity, failure modes, and main crack types of the shear walls designed using the two methods were similar, but the ductility indexes including the stiffness degradation, deformability, reinforcement yielding, and crack development of the specimens designed using the separated-elements model GESO method were superior to those using the elastic stress method. Additionally, the shear walls designed using the separated-elements model GESO method, had a reinforcement layout which could closely resist the actual critical stress, and thus a reduced amount of steel bars were required for such shear walls.

The others were lumbar spine sprain(14 cases, 41.2%), fracture of other bone{4 cases, 11.8%), fracture of spine(3 cases, 8.8%), Intercranial hemorrhage(3 cases, 8.8%). 4. In chief complaint, low back pain was most(19 cases, 55.9%), The others were neck stiffness(17 cases, 50.0%), headache(13 cases, 38.2%), lower limb pain(9 cases, 26.5%). 5. Simple Disease had higher than complex disese at effective rate. 6. Both $43{\sim}60$ days admission and $15{\sim}21$ days admission were the best effective. $8{\sim}14$ days admission was next effective. 7. Early visit made more effective.
Contemporary architectural structures have diverse and complex forms. Such structural variety demands requisite performance from the connections in the steel structure so that the latter could resist a horizontal force, such as an earthquake. The connections are the all-important components that create the discontinuous form and that support stress concentration, determining the stiffness and toughness of the entire steel frame. In this study, a real-scale column-to-beam connection was constructed in the 600MPa-grade high-strength and high-performance steel, to test its behavior. Its material and welding characteristics were examined in this study, and its structural performance was analyzed by conducting seismic-resistance tests on the full-scale, cross-shaped column-to-beam welded connections with non-scallop, ordinary-scallop, and reinforced-scallop details. The weld ability of the high-strength, high-performance steel was also evaluated, and data regarding the seismic design for practical application were provided.

A rotordynamic analysis was performed with a dry vacuum pump, which is a major equipment in modern semiconductor and LCD manufacturing processes. The system is composed of screw rotors, lobes picking air, helical gears, driving motor, and support rolling element bearings of rotors and motor. The driving motor-screw rotor system has a rated speed of 6,300 rpm, and was modeled utilizing a rotordynamic FE method for analysis, which was verified through 3-D FE analysis and experimental modal analysis. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action were significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load was calculated by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as well as the rotor itself. Each resultant bearing loading was used in calculating each stiffness of rolling element bearings. Design goals are to achieve wide separation margins of lateral and torsional critical speeds, and favorable unbalance responses of the rotor in the operating range. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the system was carried out to evaluate its forward synchronous critical speeds, whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes, unbalance responses under various unbalance locations, and torsional interference diagram. Results show that the entire system is well designed in the operating range. In addition, the procedure of rotordynamic analysis for dry vacuum pump rotor-bearing system was proposed and established.

There are many methods to reinforce the cylindrical structure for light weight design like skin-stringer and semi-monocoque. Isogrid is one of the reinforced structures to improve buckling load. Isogrid has many advantages for complex load case, internal pressure and concentrated load.In this paper, compressive buckling test and non-linear FE analysis of the isogrid panel are described. Diameter of panel is 2.4m and thickness of plate is 11.43mm. The angle which the panel accomplish is about 70 degrees and, its height is about 660mm. Local buckling, global buckling and variation of stiffness after local buckling were observed during buckling test of the panel. MSC/MARC is used for non-linear FE analysis. When analysis, initial imperfection of panel which occurred during plastic forming is considered. The results of analysis for buckling mode and buckling load have good agreements with test.
Finite element stiffness matrix methods are presented for finding natural frequencies (or buckling loads) and modes of repetitive structures. The usual approximate finite element formulations are included, but more relevantly they also permit the use of 'exact finite elements', which account for distributed mass exactly by solving appropriate differential equations. A transcendental eigenvalue problem results, for which all the natural frequencies are found with certainty. The calculations are performed for a single repeating portion of a rotationally or linearly (in one, two or three directions) repetitive structure. The emphasis is on rotational periodicity, for which principal advantages include: any repeating portions can be connected together, not just adjacent ones; nodes can lie on, and members along, the axis of rotational periodicity; complex arithmetic is used for brevity of presentation and speed of computation; two types of rotationally periodic substructures can be used in a multi-level manner; multi-level non-periodic substructuring is permitted within the repeating portions of parent rotationally periodic structures or substructures and; all the substructuring is exact, i.e., the same answers are obtained whether or not substructuring is used. Numerical results are given for a rotationally periodic structure by using exact finite elements and two levels of rotationally periodic substructures. The solution time is about 500 times faster than if none of the rotational periodicity had been used. The solution time would have been about ten times faster still if the software used had included all the substructuring features presented.

In this paper, a statistical calibration method is proposed in order to identify the variability of complex modulus for a rubber material due to operational temperature and experimental/model errors. To describe temperature- and frequency-dependent material properties, a fractional derivative model and a shift factor relationship are used. A likelihood function is defined as a product of the probability density functions where experimental values lie on the model. The variation of the fractional derivative model parameters is obtained by maximizing the likelihood function. Using the proposed method, the variability of a synthetic rubber material is estimated and applied to a rubber mount problem. The dynamic characteristics of the rubber mount are calculated using a finite element model of which material properties are sampled from Monte Carlo simulation. The calculated dynamic stiffnesses show very large variation.

In this paper, design technique using genetic algorithms(GA) for design optimization of composite leaf springs is presented here. After the initial design has been validated by the car plate spring as a finite element model, the genetic algorithm suggests the process of optimizing the number of layers of composite materials and their angles. Through optimization process, the weight reduction process of leaf springs and the number of repetitions are compared to the existing algorithm results. The safety margin is calculated by organizing a finite element model to verify the integrity of the structure by applying an additive sequence optimized through the genetic algorithm to the structure. When GA is applied, layer thickness and layer angle of complex leaf springs have been obtained, which contributes to the achievement of minimum weight with appropriate strength and stiffness. A reduction of 65.6% original weight is reached when a leaf steel spring is replaced with a leaf composite spring under identical requirement of design parameters and optimization.

To evaluate the seismic performance of multi-degree of freedom(MDF) systems, repeated nonlinear response history analyses are often conducted, which require extensive computational efforts. To reduce the amount of computation required, equivalent single degree of freedom(SDF) systems representing complex multi-degree of freedom(MDF) systems have been developed. For the equivalent SDF systems, bilinear models and trilinear models have been most commonly used. In these models, the P-$\Delta$ effect due to gravity loads during earthquakes can be accounted for by assigning negative stiffness after elastic range. This study evaluates the adequacy of equivalent SDF systems having these hysteretic models to predict the actual response of steel moment resisting frames(SMRF). For this purpose, this study conducts cyclic pushover analysis, nonlinear time history analysis and incremental dynamic analysis(IDA) for SAC-Los Angeles 9-story buildings using nonlinear MDF models(exact) and equivalent SDF models(approximate). In addition, this study considers the strength limited model.
