This paper investigates the topographic effects on wind characteristics over hilly terrain, based on wind data recorded at a number of meteorological stations in or near complex terrain. The multiply data sources allow a more detailed investigation of the flow field than is normally possible. Vertical profiles of mean and turbulent wind components from a Sodar profiler were presented and then modeled as functions of height and wind speed. The correlations between longitudinal and vertical wind components were discussed. The phenomena of flow separation and generation of vortices were observed. The distance-dependence of the topographic effects on gust factors was revealed subsequently. Furthermore, the canyon effect was identified and discussed based on the observations of wind at a saddle point between two mountain peaks. This study aims to further understanding of the characteristics of surface wind over rugged terrain. The presented results are expected to be useful for structural design, prevention of pollutant dispersion, and validation of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) models or techniques over complex terrains.
For high speed railway vehicles, we consider a vibration of flexible track/wheel system. It is very important to deal with the complex phenomena of high-speed vehicles that can be occurred in the vertical vibration of the system. From a viewpoint of multibody dynamics, this kind of problem needs accurate analysis because the system includes mutual dynamic behaviors of rigid body and flexible body. The simulation technique for the complex problems is also discussed. We consider the high-speed translation, rail elasticity, elastic supports under the rail and contact rigidity. Eigen value analysis is also completed to verify the mechanism of the coupled vertical vibration of the system.
Immune system is composed of multiple cells with distinct functions, and immune responses are orchestrated by complex and dynamic cell-cell interactions. Therefore, each cell behavior and function should be understood under right spatio-temporal context. Studying such complexity and dynamics has been challenging with conventional biological tools. Recent development of new technologies such as state of art imaging instruments and microfabrication techniques compatible with biological systems have provided many exciting opportunities to dissect complex and dynamic immune cell interactions; new microscopy techniques enable us to observe stunning dynamics of immune system in real time. Microfabrication permits us to manipulate microenvironments governing molecular/cellular dynamics of immune cells to study detailed mechanisms of phenomena observed by microscopy. Also, microfabrication can be used to engineer microenvironments optimal for specific imaging techniques. In this presentation, I am going to present an example of how these two techniques can be combined to tackle challenging problems in immunology. Obviously, this strategy can readily be applied to many different fields of biology other than immunology.
Polymer nanofibers can be generated by a electrospinning process. The process involves electrically charged jet of polymer solutions evolving from a droplet. The jet stretches in vertical direction due to the difference between charged particle and constant current located at the collector, while the Coulomb and viscoelastic forces start to contribute to radial and azimuthal (torsional) stretching. In this paper, the unstable dynamics of the liquid polymer jet is examined experimentally and theoretically. A complex viscoelastic rheological model has been adopted to analyze the behavior of a charged liquid jet. The model includes complex phenomena of stress relaxation of the liquid jet resulting from the competing force components. The experimental data of the jet paths captured by high-speed videocamera also confirm the similar behavior with the predictions.
The effect of curvature, rotation, variable cross-section can make very complex flow pattern in turbo-machinery such as Pumps, compressors, turbines, In this study of turbulent flow characteristics rotating $90^{\circ}$ curved duct under a Plane rate of strain condition is computationally analyzed. The objective of this study is to understand the complex turbulent flow phenomena in turbo-machinery passage by analyzing the modeled rotating $90^{\circ}$ curved duct flow. RSM(Reynolds Stress Model) was employed for the turbulence modeling of Reynolds stress in momentum equations proposed by Shin(1995). The three dimensional computational code which adopts RSM for trubulence modeling was newly developed for the generalized curvilinear coordinate.

Recently, ADI scheme has been a most common tool for solving shallow water equation numerically. But ADI models of tidal flow is likely to cause so called ADI effect in such a region of the Yellow Sea which shows complex topography and has submarine canyons especially. To overcome this, a finite difference algorithm is developed which adopts fully implicit method and preconditioned conjugate gradient squared method. Applying the algorithm including simulation of intertidal zone to Sae-Man-Keum. velocity fields and flooding/drying phenomena are simulated well in spite of complex topography.

Wet/Dry phenomena typically incorporate a number of complex flow mechanism. These include a momentum transfer and turbulent mixing caused by the delivery of water. However currently available one dimensional schemes applicable to wet/dry process cannot effectively simulate such process. Two dimensional finite element model, SU/PG, is used to simulate complex flow in this study. The Wetted Area Method in SU/PG allows elements to transition gradually between wet and dry states. The model is applicable to a straight river reach with irregular bathymetry. Wet/dry calculation using the wetted area method can simulate simple numerical test. The computed results of velocity vectors and water depth agree with those of observed. The methodology Presented in this study will contributed to two-dimensional wet/dry analysis in a river in this country.
A central dogma of pharmacology is that only unbound drug is capable of translocation across biological membrane. Thus, hepatic uptake is assumed to be solely determined by the unbound concentration of the diffusible moiety at the surface of the liver cell. However, an increasing number of experimental observations with xenobiotics that are normally very extensively bound to plasma proteins (>99%) appear to be inconsistent with these assumptions. This suggested that in addition to progressive spontaneous dissociation within the liver sinusoids and space of Disse, direct interactions of the albumin-drug complex at the plasma membrane may facilitate dissociation of the complex. To explain this phenomena. called albumin-mediated uptake, 4 mechanisms have been suggested. The validity of such hypotheses needs to be examined by the further study. Because albumin-mediated uptake has also been observed to occur in other plasma proteins, protein-mediated uptake rather than albumin-mediated uptake seems to be acceptable.

The temperature distribution and fluid flow in the chamber was investigated using FLUENT code. It provides comprehensive modeling capabilities for a wide range of incompressible or compressible and laminar or turbulent fluid flow problems. And a broad range of mathematical models for transport phenomena is combined with the ability to model for complex geometries. The geometry of the chamber was very complex, and a simplified model of the chamber was used in the simulation experiment. It was important that the temperature deviation of test site. This datum were provided in the improving the control algorithm. Using this algorithm, the results were with in $0.1^{\circ}C.$
The electrochemical behavior of cadmium(Ⅱ) in tartrate solution has been studied over the pH range of 6 to 13.6 in order to explain the phenomena of the changes in limiting current depending on the pH. The polarographic limiting current showed a constant value up to pH of 7.8, after which it decreased sharply to show a minimum at pH between 11 and 12. The limiting current, then, increased again with increasing pH. The number of peaks in cyclic voltammogram was 1 to 3 depending on the pH of the solution. Two other voltammetric peaks could be observed when the main reduction peak diminished. The decrease of limiting current at 7.5$Cd(C_4H_3O_6)^-$. The increase of limiting current at strong alkaline solution, however, was due to the complex $Cd(Tart)_2(OH)_2^{4-}$.
