A Study on the Smart Tourism Awareness through Bigdata Analysis

  • Purpose: In the 4th industrial revolution, services that incorporate various smart technologies in the tourism sector have begun to gain popularity. Accordingly, academic discussions on smart tourism have also started to become active in various fields. Despite recent research, the definition of smart tourism is still ambiguous, and it is not easy to differentiate its scope or characteristics from traditional tourism concepts. Thus, this study aims to analyze the perception of smart tourism exposed online to identify the current point of smart tourism in Korea and present the research direction for conceptualizing smart tourism suitable for the domestic situation. Research design, data, and methodology: This study analyzes the perception of smart tourism exposed online based on 20,198 news data from portal sites over the past six years. Data on words used with smart tourism were collected from the leading portal sites Naver, Daum, and Google. Text mining techniques were applied to identify the social awareness status of smart tourism. Network analysis was used to visualize the results between words related to smart tourism, and CONCOR analysis was conducted to derive clusters formed by words having similarity. Results: As a result of keyword analysis, the frequency of words related to the development and construction of smart tourism areas was high. The analysis of the centrality of the connection between words showed that the frequency of keywords was similar, and that the words "smartphones" and "China" had relatively high connection centrality. The results of network analysis and CONCOR indicated that words were formed into eight groups including related technologies, promotion, globalization, service introduction, innovation, regional society, activation, and utilization guide. The overall results of data analysis showed that the development of smart tourism cities was a noticeable issue. Conclusions: This study is meaningful in that it clearly reflects the differences in the perception of smart tourism between online and research trends despite various efforts to develop smart tourism in Korea. In addition, this study highlights the need to understand smart tourism concepts and enhance academic discussions. It is expected that such academic discussions will contribute to improving the competitiveness of smart tourism research in Korea.

A Study of Analysis Methods on R&D Productivity Using Patent and Paper Analysis (특허 및 논문분석을 이용한 연구생산성 분석 기법에 관한 연구)

  • Global R&D environment is entering on more complicated aspect gradually and tends to increase sharply in a quantitative manner. Technology competition is getting higher. This study intends to raise recognition of a necessity of productivity in a rapidly-changing R&D field and to suggest alternatives for improving its research productivity. For it, the research productivity was analyzed by utilizing two processes of patent analysis and paper analysis. According to the analysis result, it can be confirmed that Korea has the low research productivity compared to advanced countries such as USA and Japan. Government-supported research institute showed the relatively low research productivity, compared to foreign research institutes. It is confirmed that the company research institute has better research productivity than the government-supported research institute. Analyzing the present situation of research productivity through such the patent and paper analysis, seems to contribute to suggest how the research must be done in order to identify the factor of hampering the competitiveness acquisition and to improve the future R&D productivity.

Development of Scale for the Service Quality from Entry to Departure of Container Ports (컨테이너항의 입항부터 출항까지의 서비스품질 척도 개발)

  • Recently, it becomes important for container ports to gain competitiveness through service differentiation strategies. These strategies require an objective evaluation on consumer needs. For that reason, this study aims at developing the scale and measurement methods for service quality. Container shipping companies calling at Busan are targeted for the empirical analyses. The measurement items are presented for the services that they are provided from entry into a port to departure from a port. Exploratory factor analysis and validity analysis are done to derive a service quality scale from entry to departure. The result of regression analysis implies that the service quality scale is useful to increase customer satisfaction and to establish managerial strategies.

An Analysis of IoT Service using Sentiment Analysis on Online Reviews: Focusing on the Characteristics of Service Providers (감성분석을 활용한 사물인터넷(IoT) 서비스 리뷰 분석: 사업자 특성에 따른 차이를 중심으로)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is characterized as the market where various companies compete for the same consumers. Thus, there are differences in functions and performance provided by the main business area and other characteristics of the service providers. This paper investigates whether satisfaction with the service provided depends on the characteristics of the operator by using sentiment analysis of comments. To achieve this goal, word importance analysis and sensitivity analysis are conducted on 34,310 reviews of 41 applications registered in the Google Play. The review analysis was conducted at various levels, including TD-IDF (Term frequency-inverse document frequency) value of keywords, service sectors, the origin of providers, and domestic/foreign providers. The results show that users' overall assessment of IoT services was found to be low, and smart homes received relatively high reviews compared to other services, and manufacturing-based and overseas providers received relatively higher evaluations than others.

National Brand, Tourism and Human Development: Analysis of the Relationship and Distribution

  • Purpose: This paper aims to determine features of the relationship between human development, tourism and national brand. Research design, data and methodology: ranking indicators, cluster analysis, K means method, correlation analysis. Results: The analysis covers data for 95 countries for 2019. The number of countries is justified by the availability of comparable data for calculations. A direct relationship between the indicators for the entire sample has been revealed in the result of the correlation analysis. However, this relationship has not been confirmed for the groups of countries that were formed through the cluster analysis. Spearman Rank Order and Kendall Tau Correlations have been calculated for the five obtained clusters. In two of the five clusters, the relationship between the indicators has not been found. A strong negative link between all the indicators has been detected in the cluster with average index values. A strong positive link between TTCI and BSI has been revealed in the group of countries with the best index values. A strong positive link between TTCI and HDI has been found in the group of countries with the worst index values. Conclusions: The analysis demonstrates that there is a relationship between BSI, TTCI and HDI, and while this link is observed for the sample as a whole, it is not homogeneous for groups of countries.

  • Social media have been rapidly and widely adopted in various areas, and tourism industry can be one of potential growing areas. Tourist and travelers would like to share their photos and stories as well as find others' experiences. People are doing their activities through social media. Regarding relaxing entertainments, information sharing, escapism, social interaction, tourism activities are being paid attention by majority of users in social media. However, Although people have various motivation for using social media, academically researchers have not actively studied on the phenomenon arising from tourism industry. Therefore, this study aims to the reasons for tourism information searching motivational factors of social media that influence perceived value and its consequences such like before-searching, during-searching, and after-searching and divided social media into two types according to the level of social presence, and then empirically verified them. Antecedent variables divided into benefits including perceived usefulness and information quality and sacrifices including complexity and perceived effort. Our analysis results show that both of dimensions had the greatest effect on perceived value of social media use, which affect the consequences.

  • To enhance its efficiency to improve organizations' competitiveness, performance evaluation is vital and it influences budget, policies, and human resource affairs of the organizations. The study aims to develop performance indicators for National Library of Korea (NLK) and evaluate performance based on indicators driven. As a result, the study develops 2 viewpoints for each work area of NLK - management of information system, digital resources enlargement, and the cooperative utilization system for alternative materials. It also develops total 12 indicators. Based on the evaluation;the research finally suggests strategies for performance improvement by viewpoints for NLK.

Survey on Strategies for Developing the Mongolian Cashmere Industry (몽골 캐시미어 산업 발전방안 모색을 위한 현장 근무자 조사)

  • This research aimed to explore strategies to develop the cashmere industry in Mongolia. Questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the necessity of development in different sectors in the cashmere industry, and areas of necessary competition for the development of Mongolian cashmere industry. In addition, characteristics of respondents and their companies were questioned. Surveys were distributed to people working in cashmere manufacturing companies in Ulaanbaator, Mongolia between July 25th, 2012 to September 3rd, 2012, and a total of 79 questionnaires were included in the final analysis using descriptive analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan test. Results showed that respondents perceived design as the sector that needed the most improvement, and product related strategies such as product quality, product differentiation, and design were more important than distribution or promotion related strategies. The perceptions on the development strategies differed according to company size and their target markets (domestic vs. export). Overall, respondents working in smaller companies showed greater concern for most sectors, and also felt technology, product quality and design were more important than those in working in larger companies. Companies that targeted the domestic market showed greater concern for herding and scouring sector than companies that exported, while the latter evaluated government policy, network, distribution/export channels more importantly than the former in developing the Mongolian cashmere industry.

Influence of Competencies on the Performance of Local Small and Medium-sized Hospitals and the Moderating Effect of Organizational Structure (지방 중소병원의 역량이 경영성과에 미치는 영향과 조직구조의 조절효과)

  • Main purpose of this study is to provide some managerial suggestions for local small and medium-sized hospitals that are in poorer business environment than large hospitals such as university hospitals, in managing the manpower efficiently, improving business performance and enhancing competitiveness, by empirically investigating the relationship among competency, organizational structure and business performance. Major results are as follows: First, regression analysis for the effects of hospital competency on nonfinancial performance revealed that marketing competency, intangible resource competency and financial resource competency, in that order of importance, had significant influence on nonfinancial performance. Second, regarding the analysis of the effects of hospital competency on financial performance, financial resource competency, marketing competency and intangible resource competency, in that order of importance, significantly affected financial performance. Third, as for the moderating effect, significant result was obtained in an interaction between hospital competency and organizational structure. Financial resource competency had a positive significant impact on nonfinancial performance. However, it had negative significant impact on it by interactive effect with organizational structure.

Production Cost Analysis of Leaf tobacco farm Households (잎담배 재배농가의 생산비 분석)

  • This study had carried out an analysis of leaf tobacco production cost by cost items, growing stages, and farm sizes per 10a to provide the basic data for determination of the purchasing price of leaf tobacco by KT&G. Considering the survey results of 12 tobacco farm households, the composition rates of production cost by items revealed as 7-10% for land service, 5-22% for depreciation, 13-25% for material costs, 50-65% for labour cost respectively. The production cost of leaf tobacco by growing stages were shown as 15.3% in nursery bed period, 32.3% in main growing period in field, 30.8% in harvesting period and 21.6% in packing period. The magnitude of wage expenditure was appeared as harvesting stage, packing stage, growing stage on main field and nursery bed stage in order. The amount of material costs were revealed as the growing stage in main field, harvesting stage, nursery bed stage and packing stage respectively. The production costs of leaf tobacco per 10a by farm sizes were shown as 1,615,879won for small farm, 1,446,896won for medium farm and 1,454,408won for large farm respectively. The production cost of leaf tobacco had shown decreasing tendency according to increasing farm sizes. To promote the international market competitiveness of leaf tobacco producing farms, labour saving production technologies and cost effective farm size to decrease tobacco production cost should be developed.
