  • In competitive electricity markets, the System Operator (SO) coordinates the overall maintenance schedules whenever the collective maintenance schedule reported to SO by Gencos & Transco in the pool does not satisfy the specified operating criteria, such as system reliability or supply adequacy. We propose a two-layer mathematical algorithm amenable to maintenance scheduling problem into master problem and sub-problem. The master problem coordinates the scheduling, and sub-problem, DC optimal power flew, checks the adequacy. The proposed algorithm was demonstrated with a case study.

  • Korean railroad has been accomplished the structural change through separating of facilities and operation of railroad in 2004. The existent government organization was transformed into the public, this caused problem of renovation of railroad management. Korean railroad has been the integrated management of passenger and freight. As putting the passenger service as a priority, freight transportation have fallen behind and not attained good sales results. Restructuring in Korean railroad would bring about considerable improvement, but still not come out of the deficit operation. To find a way out of this situation, there needs to make renovation and extend new enterprise. However, to operate the railway freight transportation more competitively, make up situation that can possess competitive power fundamentally. From this perspective, the purpose of this study is to analyze the necessity for separated operation of passenger and freight railway transportation. By doing this can expect to obtain the competition power of railway freight transportation, and is a help to build up the independent management system of railway freight transportation and secure competitive high position about other transportation systems especially road.

  • This paper presents a new approach for the evaluation of location marginal prices (LMPs) considering demand-side bidding (DSB) in a competitive electricity market. The stabilization of the electric power supply and demand balance is one of the major important activities in electric power industry. In this paper, we present an analytical method for calculation of LMPs considering DSB, which has opportunity to compete with generating units, as England & Wales Pool's DSB scheme[1]. Also, we propose a new approach that LMP considering DSB is divided into three components. The proposed approach can be used for the evaluation of demand-side bidding into the electricity market and the assessment of the influence of DSB on total production costs and LMPs as well as three components.

  • Maintenance scheduling of generating units (MSU) has strategic dimension in an oligopolistic market. Strategic MSU of gencos can affect a market power through capacity withdrawal which is related to bidding strategy in an generation wholesale market. This paper presents a combined framework that models the interrelation between competitive bidding and strategic MSU. The combined game model is represented as some sub-optimization problems of a market operator (MO) and gencos, that should be solved through bi-level optimization scheme. The gradient method with dual variables is also adopted to calculate a Nash Equilibrium (NE) by an iterative update technique in this paper. Illustrative numerical example shows that NE of a supply function equilibrium is obtained properly by using proposed solution technique. The MSU made by MO is compared with that by each genco and that under perfect competition market.

  • This survey research investigates how the small and medium industries in Pusan area have considered quality management activities in an effort to strengthen their competitive power. It first develops a set of significant questionnaires anddistributes them to a select group of small and medium regional industries. The survey results are analyzed based on both Cronbach's Alpha value and $x^2$ test. This study shows that the awareness level of quality management varies according to the type of industrial field. This study also proposes that a, pp.opriate quality management strategies are necessary for the regional industries in pusan.

  • The necessity of installing well adaptable Information Systems are required day by day in all the fields of business management. This paper provides an Information System development for enhancing competitive power of the small and medium-sized firms in Korea. Recent growing Information Technology leads to constructing invisibly some new adaptable Information Systems in accordance with the business size, level, capacity and requirements. Even though some advanced companies and big enterprises are already operating their own appropriate Information Systems so as to get their remarkable productivity at a moment. The rest of those small firms are still trying to find out some proper systems fitting their own business in very poor situations. The basic requirements of the points of views by mail questionaired and interviewed from 1292 small and medium-sized manufacturing firms reflected on this Information System development. As a result, the study introduces some economically efficient, convinient, flexible and useful applied Information Systems with simple methods.

  • As an electricity industry transforms into a competitive system, an electricity market revolves into a combined market consisting of generation and operating reserve. This paper presents a market model combined by an energy market and an operating reserve market. In a competitive structure, Gencos strive to choose strategic bidding parameters that maximize total profit resulting from an energy market and a reserve market. The primary goal of the paper is to analyze power transactions of generation and operation reserve based on marginal profits and capacity limits at NE(Nash Equilibrium). In case studies, the reserve market and the energy market are compared at the n from the viewpoints of marginal profits, prices and transaction quantities. It is shown that the marginal profit in an energy market is equal to that in a reserve market, and Gencos strategic bidding is greatly influenced by capacity limit.
