Research design, data and methodology: Research data was collected from 239 food processing enterprise managers and analyzed using partial least square - structural equation modeling. Results: With the exception of digital orientation, the study found evidence of the role of innovation capability and market orientation (customer orientation, supply chain orientation, competitor orientation) in the overall competitive advantage of Vietnamese food processing enterprises. Furthermore, the study underscores the contributions of innovation capability, market orientation and digital orientation in fostering performance of Vietnamese food processing enterprises. It also identifies the mediating role of competitive advantage in the relationship between dynamic capabilities and performance. Conclusions: Consequently, the study proposes a number of implications for food processing enterprise managers with the aim of establishing and enhancing competitive advantage and business performance in the future.

  • Nowadays, domestic hospital business is under the great threat from the environmental changes caused by the entrance of foreign hospitals and the technical changes related to information systems. In such a situation, to enhance the competitive edge of a hospital, it is needed to set up a competitive strategy and to construct an efficient information systems to back up the competitive strategy. If the hospital information systems(HIS) is consistent with a competitive strategy backing up, the competitive force of a hospital will be enhanced. For this respect, the influence of the competitive strategy and HIS construction environments on the performance of HIS was examined. The results suggested that if a HIS should be newly constructed or should be restructured, it is necessary to select construction environments of HIS such as physical environments, development methods and development tools to support functional strategy effectively based on the competitive strategy adopted by a hospital.

  • This paper applies the technology-gap trade theory to explaining radical changes in the competitive positions of countries in world machine tool markets over the last three decades. It develops the notion that the innovation gaps in machine tools among countries led to the inter-country differences in the competitive performance in the sector as well as in its user sectors. Since competitive advantage largely depends on a capability to improve, create and apply technology to market competition, a higher innovative performance in one country than another is closely related to a higher innovative performance. A higher innovative performance in machine tools is also associated with a higher competitive performance of the large areas of its user sectors, due to sectoral interdependences and externalities generated by machine tool innovations. The results of empirical investigation through a panel data analysis show that the international gaps in machine tool innovations appeared to have a positive significant relationship with the differences in the export performance of both the machine tool sector and its user sector across countries.

A questionnaire was conducted for start-ups and 259 samples were analyzed using SmartPLS 2.0. First, it was found that leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement have a positive effect on differentiated competitive advantage, and contexts of organization does not have a positive effect. Second, differentiated competitive advantage has a positive effect on financial and non-financial performance. Third, company size has a moderating effect in the relationship between leadership, support, operation, improvement and competitive advantage. The results of the study can be interpreted that the quality management system improves the quality of start-ups and has a positive effect on management performance. In addition, it implies that the organizational situation and the size of the company should be considered when implementing the quality management system.

  • The importance of innovative capability, the driving force behind innovation as a company's intangible resources, is increasing. In general, companies with high innovation capability are more likely to be successful in innovation, which can be expected to have a positive impact on corporate performance. The innovation capacity of SMEs considered in this study is R&D capability and manufacturing capability. The reason for this is that not only the continuous efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs are focused on stabilizing manufacturing capability, but also considering the situation in which governmental support for SMEs' R&D capability has been actively developed. This study examines whether R&D capability and manufacturing capability have a significant influence on corporate performance and securing competitive advantage, and analyzes whether competitive advantage acts as a mediator between innovation capability and corporate performance through regression analysis. SPSS 23.0 software was used for the empirical analysis of the data obtained through the survey. The research results are as follows. First, both R&D and manufacturing capabilities of SMEs were found to have a significant positive effect on corporate performance. Second, manufacturing capability had a significant effect on securing competitive advantage of SMEs, but R&D capability was not significant. Third, the competitive advantage of SMEs was found to play a mediating role between manufacturing capability and corporate performance.
