We have used Delphi Investigation to carry out a survey that targets professionals and identifies problems. The results are summarized as follows. Firstly, the results of the analysis of Landscape Design Competition for institution theory and case studies showed that there is an issue from four perspectives which are 'method of design competition', 'guidelines for design competition', 'winner selection process', and 'design changes after winning' Secondly, the process by professional Delphi performed expert analysis, and agree with expert opinion. As a result, we derived the problems of a landscape design competition system with the 12 items. Third, in the 'design competition style', two items, the 'design competition style' and 'problem of design public offering period' had become a problem. Fourth, the 'Guidelines for design competition', 'non-hierarchical excess of the amount of instructions', 'directive determined the guidelines', and the 'provision of confusion' three items had also become a problem. Fifth, 'sex expert committee review selection process winning work', 'Problems of participation', 'examination scoring system experts lack', and 'non-landscaping' had become a problem. Sixth, 'The design of the original order' as much as possible 'design changes after the winning work' Four 'order to Comments to reduce the creativity of the design of the climate', 'original extension', 'contractor feedback of excess without the promise of frequent personnel changes', design period of the person in charge is reflected in excess item has become a problem. I considered that a continuous research on the improvement of the problems of the landscape design competition system based on the results must be performed.

  • In this paper, we present the FlappyBird Competition System (FCS) implementation, a competition-based automated assessment system used in an entry-level artificial intelligence (AI) course at a university. The proposed system provides an evaluation method suitable for AI courses while taking advantage of automated assessment methods. Students are to design a neural network structure, train the weights, and tune hyperparameters using the given reinforcement learning code to improve the overall performance of game AI. Students participate using the resulting trained model during the competition, and the system automatically calculates the final score based on the ranking. The user evaluation conducted after the semester ends shows that our competition-based automated assessment system promotes active participation and inspires students to be interested and motivated to learn AI. Using FCS, the instructor significantly reduces the amount of time required for assessment.

  • State highway agencies (SHAs) typically apply a competitive procurement procedure to select contractors for their design-bid-build projects. Since the level of competition affects construction bid prices and project outcomes, the Federal Highway Agency (FHWA) suggests SHAs seek ways to improve competition among contractors continuously. However, they rarely conduct an empirical assessment of the current competition level necessary to identify room for improvement. Besides the number of bidders on a project, other factors such as winning or losing rates among the contractors in previous projects can also indicate the degree of competition; only a few contractors may have won the majority of the projects in a specific region. However, few studies have investigated such factors. This paper proposes a network analysis-based approach to evaluating contractor competition levels of highway projects using historical bid tabulation data. The proposed method provides insights into overall competition levels, the determination of competitive contractors, and winning rate distribution among contractors.

  • The objective of this study is to critically examine the result and the quality of urban park design as infrastructure by analyzing the landscape architectural design competition for Cheongna New City, which was organized by the Korea Land Corporation. This paper is meaningful in that it broadly examines several recent design competitions for urban parks, thereby discussing what the future urban park should be. This study explores the existing analysis methods of design competitions in order to establish a comprehensive method of analysis for the Cheongna competition. Through reinterpreting the concept of the urban park as infrastructure and the design strategies of landscape urbanism, nine key words and a framework for the analysis of urban park design are established. By analyzing the guidelines for the competition, five key words; networking, site, ecology, scale, and infrastructure have been selected and are used as the framework of analysis for the competition. The analysis of the contestants of the competition based on the proposed analysis method leads to a few implications for urban park design as infrastructure: networking and scale from the perspective of the development site; the creation of a sense of place and symbolism in creating the urban image; planning for an ecological urban environment; focus on the significance of the urban park as infrastructure. These implications are highlighted and discussed by the contestants through a variety of experiments. These ideas, however, are provided as a simple configuration of shapes and conceptual explanations and fail to be developed into synthetic, practical strategies.

  • Niching method enables the genetic algorithm(GA) to be applied to the problems that require the location of multiple solutions in the search space, but these methods have fatal disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that the method requires too much calculation of object function. In this paper, a niching method using restricted competition selection(RCS) combined with a pattern search method(PSM) is proposed to identify multiple niches more efficiently and fast in a multimodal domain. The validity of the proposed method is verified by the simulation of test functions and the optimal design of an torque motor.
