Education satisfaction and self-assessment of competency among new general dentists in Korea

  • Dental education is gradually transitioning to competency-based education system, which aims to help dentists achieve certain core competencies by means of various systems, such as curriculum accreditation. This study examined satisfaction with dental school education and the differences in the perceived importance and self-assessment of competencies among general dentists, in an attempt to propose a desirable direction for dental education. A questionnaire was administered to new general dentists who graduated from a dental school within the past 10 years. The results of the survey were analyzed using the Importance-Performance Analysis to understand differences in dentists' perceptions. Overall satisfaction with education was low in terms of the curriculum's relevance to actual practice and its capacity for cultivating required competencies. Furthermore, many of the respondents strongly perceived the need to improve dental education. Additional investigations into the satisfaction with education showed no difference. Among the seven key competency domains, dentists perceived Health Promotion to be important and also assessed themselves as having high competence. However, regarding the perceived importance of the remaining domains, self-assessment of competence was low for Professionalism, Communication & Interpersonal Skills, Knowledge Base, Information Handling & Critical Thinking, Clinical Information Gathering, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, and Establishment & Maintenance of Oral Health. The results of this study suggest that a competency-based education model should be developed and incorporated into dental education to set performance standards and to promote systematic self-assessment in order to foster the development of competence in dental students.

성과중심교육에서 학생평가 (Assessment in Outcome-Based Education)

  • Assessment plays a vital role in outcome-based education (OBE). This article describes the characteristics of assessment and appropriate assessment instruments for measuring learning outcomes in OBE. Assessment in OBE needs to be formative, continuous, and frequent. Miller's pyramid is useful for selecting the appropriate assessment instruments to reflect a specific outcome; different methods can be applied to evaluate one outcome. Outcomes and competency mean that student must 'do'; therefore, performance tests are emphasized. Qualitative methods as well as quantitative methods are used to evaluate the outcomes of areas such as professionalism or ethics. An absolute criterion-based standard is usually applied to decide whether students pass or fail, but the decision should be based on gathering value judgments and reaching consensus. Active participation of faculty members and students in assessment is crucial.

  • 본 논문의 목적은 교과기반 학습성취평가 시스템 구현을 위한 교과 데이터 모델 및 학습 성취도 산출 알고리즘 개발이다. 현재 대학 교육의 방향인 역량기반 교육을 위해서는 교과기반 학습성취 평가가 필수적이지만 기존 연구들은 교육학적 관점으로서 컴퓨터 시스템 관점의 해결책이 매우 부족하다. 본 논문에서는 코스맵 데이터 구조 분석을 통해 계층 구조의 학습성과 모델, 학습모듈 및 학습활동 모델, 학습성과와 학습활동 연계 매트릭스 모델 및 자동화된 성취도 산출 및 성취수준 평가를 위한 성취도 계산 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이를 통해 교과기반 학습성취 평가 시스템을 개발할 수 있으며 시스템 활용을 통해 학습자의 역량 성취를 효과적으로 평가할 수 있다. 제안된 모델과 알고리즘의 평가를 위해 실제 운영중인 자바프로그래밍 교과목에 적용하였으며 이를 통해 교과기반 학습성과 성취평가 시스템 구현의 핵심요소로 활용할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 향후 연구는 학습성과 성취도 산출을 기반으로 적응형 학습 피드백과 개인화된 학습 추천 알고리즘 개발 및 시스템 구현이다.

변증(辨證) 기반 진료수행시험(CPX) 시나리오를 이용한 역할극에 대한 학생 자가 평가의 일치도와 개선 방안 (Consistency of Student Self-Assessment of Role Play Using the Syndrome Differentiation-Based Clinical Performance Examination Scenario and Improvement Measures)

  • Objectives : This study analyzed the concordance between student self-assessment and peer-evaluation in a role play using the Clinical Performance Examination (CPX) scenario developed based on Korean medical syndrome differentiation. Methods : The subjects of this study are first-year-students majoring in Korean Medicine. The role play based on clinical case was performed in the class of Korean Medicine Classics. Feedback on clinical skill competency got through student self-assessment and peer-evaluation, and this study was compared and analyzed of result. Results : A simple comparison of the results of self-assessment and peer-evaluation in the evaluation results of clinical skill competency may appear to be consistent. However, it was not statistically significant. It is necessary to enhance the discriminative ability in the evaluation of clinical skill competency. It will be possible to improve a bit by relatively increasing the weight of the scores on the items that students expect to respond differently among the evaluation items. In addition, in order to dramatically improve the systemicity and reliability of the evaluation of clinical skill competency itself, it is necessary to introduce the Introduction to Clinical Traditional Korean Medicine (ICTKM) course. Conclusions : Student's self-assessment and peer-evaluation as feedback on clinical skill competency are suitable for the purpose of education and training. However, the reliability of the evaluation was not statistically significant.

예비교사의 과정중심 평가 역량 개발을 위한 프로젝트기반 학습의 활용 (Using Project-Based Learning for the Development of Process-Fortified Assessment Competencies of Pre-service Teachers)

  • 국가수준 교육과정의 기본적 접근방법이 내용중심에서 역량중심으로 전환됨에 따라 과정중심 평가의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 따라 교사의 평가자로서의 역할 역시 과정중심 평가에 초점이 맞추어지고 있으며, 임용을 앞둔 예비교사들에게도 과정중심 평가의 역량을 개발하는 것은 중시되고 있다. 본 연구는 예비교사의 과정중심 평가 역량개발을 지원하기 위하여 교원양성대학 교과목을 개선하여 운영하고 그 효과를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 목적을 달성하기 위하여 C 교육대학교에서 운영되는 한 교과목을 PBL 중심으로 재구성하여 운영하고 과정중심 평가의 관점에서 예비 초등교사에게 미치는 효과를 분석하였다. 수강생들의 프로젝트 결과물, 관찰노트, 수강생 반응 등의 자료 분석을 통해 PBL 활동 경험이 예비 초등교사들의 과정중심 평가에 대한 인식과 이해에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 PBL과 같이 과정중심 평가관이 반영된 학습 경험을 제공하는 것이 예비교사의 과정중심 평가 역량 개발에 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다는 점을 시사해준다. 본 연구의 결과는 예비교사의 과정중심 평가역량 개발을 위한 교원양성대학의 교육과정과 수업의 혁신을 위한 구체적 방법을 제시해줄 수 있을 것이다.

공학역량에 대한 산업체의 요구분석 (Industry Needs Assessment on Engineering Competency)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the educational needs of the industry for engineering education using the engineering competency scale. For needs assessment, t-test, Borich Needs Assessment and the Locus for Focus(LFF) were conducted using 400 employees' answers of industry. The results of this analysis are as follows. First, there was a significant difference between the level of importance and actual level. Second, all items were ranked using the Borich's needs assessment formula. Third, as a result of LFF model, 19 items were placed in the highest priority HH section. Fourth, 17 items with the highest priority in engineering education were selected. Finally, the highest educational needs were 6 items related with interpersonal skills, 2 items related with leadership, and 9 items related with professional attitude and ability. Based on the results of this paper, it is necessary to develop and operate an education program to reduce the gap between the industry requirement and the current level of engineering students.

국가직무능력표준을 활용한 안전직무의 BSC 인사평가 시스템 개발 (A Study on Development of Balanced ScoreCard Personnel Assessment Using of Safety Duty Using National Competency Standards)

  • If examining utilization by completion of National Competency Standards development, efforts are made so as to organize curriculum matched to education or training and perform subjects based on competence unit educationally in specialized high schools, colleges and university. However, National Competency Standards is insignificantly utilized in enterprises and on the spot due to characteristics of occupation type and diversity of process. This thesis intended to measures of safety efficiency improvement of final enterprise through the human resources assessment system of National Competency Standards based enterprise. Therefore, various methodologies were introduced and results of analysis by Balanced ScoreCard method were suggested for policy measures improving final safety efficiency. The results of this analysis are expected to make contribution to improving the effectiveness of the government's industrial safety and health policies through the establishment of systematic safety and health systems according to the risk level of individual business.

교원 대상 학교안전관리 역량 강화 프로그램 개발을 위한 교육 요구분석 (A Needs Assessment for Teachers' School Safety Management Competency Development Program)

  • Purpose: Recently, various accidents and incidents occurred in our school environment, making it necessary to enhance teachers' competency in school safety management. To this end, this study was conducted to analyze the needs of teachers related to school safety management competency development. Methods: For this purpose, the existing teacher's task analysis related to school safety management was revised and surveys were conducted to measure teachers' present level, expectative level and importance of the items based on the task analysis. To analyze the data, Borich Needs Assessment and The Locus for Focus Model were used. Results: In the t-test between the teachers' present level and expectative level about school safety management, all 39 tasks were related (p<.001). The priorities in developing teachers' competency in school safety management were found to be the 6 tasks listed below: 'To deal with each type of accident,' 'To implement CPR and defibrillator,' 'To use fire extinguishers and fire hydrants,' 'To use descending life lines,' 'To give first aid,' and 'To cope with elevator accidents.' Conclusion: By utilizing the results of the teacher's competency and need assesment as components, teachers' training programs can be made more applicable to the school setting. In addition, more experience-based programs should be considered when designing teachers' training programs in order to apply the priority found from the teacher's need assessment.

공공부문 역량평가제도의 활성화 방안에 대한 연구 : 민간부분의 운영방식과의 비교 연구 (A Study on the Revitalization of the Competency Assessment System in the Public Sector : Compare with Private Sector Operations)

  • 공공부문의 인사 관련 정책은 폐쇄적이며 필기시험 위주로 운영이 되어왔으나, 2006년 고위공무원단 도입을 통하여 공무원의 승진과 선발제도에서 역량을 기반으로 하는 평가와 승진, 교육체계가 새로이 도입되었다. 특히 승진과 관련된 역량평가(Assessment Center)를 운영하여 연공서열 중심의 승진제도가 역량을 기준으로 평가받는 계기가 되었다. 역량평가는 현재까지 사용하는 평가방법들 중에서 신뢰성과 타당성이 가장 높은 평가방법으로 알려져 있으며 성과에 대한 예측 타당성도 높은 것으로 알려져 있다. 2001년 정부 표준역량 19개 역량모델을 설계하였으며, 2006년 고위공무원단제도의 시행과 함께 역량평가를 실행하였고, 2015년 중앙부처 과장급으로 확대 시행과 2012년 서울시를 시작으로 하여 광역지방자치단체도 간부급 공무원에 대한 역량평가를 도입, 시행하고 있다. 공공부문에서 역량평가의 활용 목적은 주로 3급은 선발, 4급은 배치(보직), 5급은 승진에 초점을 맞춰 운영하고 있다. 하지만 공공부문의 역량평가는 민간부문과 비교하면, 역량평가의 목적, 평가과정, 역량평가 프로그램의 측면에서 차이를 보이고 있다. 역량평가의 목적에서 공공부문은 후보자 선발 승진을 위한 것이며, 민간부문은 경력개발과 육성에 초점을 두고 있다. 따라서 민간부문보다 지속적인 역량개발을 하지 못하고 있으며, 직무를 수행하는 데 있어서 성과를 높이기 위한 목적으로 활용 되지 못하고 있다. 평가항목과 관련해서, 공공부문은 일반적으로 6개 역량에 대하여 5점 만점에 2.5점 이상이면 역량평가를 통과하는 방식으로 제도를 운영하며, 역량의 수준이 어느 정도이며, 부족한 부문은 무엇인지에 대한 피드백이 미흡한데 반하여, 민간부문은 탈락자를 선별보다는 우수자와 적임자를 선별하기 위하여 개인별 평균점수 뿐 아니라 각 개인의 역량별 점수를 중요시 하고 이를 활용하여 보직과 경력개발에 활용한다. 평가자 선발 및 운영과 관련해서는 공공부문은 평가에 있어 공정성에 중점을 두고, 민간부문은 활용성에 중점을 두어 공공부문은 역량평가를 통하여 역량을 개발하고 적재적소에 인적자원을 활용한다는 측면에는 부합하지 못하고 있다. 따라서 공공부문도 역량평가를 통하여 우수자를 파악하고 이들이 동기부여가 될 수 있도록 하는 방안으로 개선하고 정확한 보고서와 개인별 피드백을 통해서 더 우수한 관리자로 성장할 수 있도록 역량평가제도 운영에 변화를 기하여야 한다.

부조종사 자격증명(MPL; Multi-Crew Pilot License) 비행교관 훈련프로그램에 관한 연구 (A Study of Flight Instructor Training Specification for MPL (Multi-Crew Pilot License) in Korea)

  • Since the MPL (Multi-Crew Pilot License) Program was introduced in Korea in 2009, there has not been a single pilot licensed under the MPL Program. To successfully implement the MPL Program in Korea, it is necessary for an Approved Training Organization to develop the MPL Flight Instructor Training Program and foster excellent MPL Flight Instructors. However, there are no rules or guidelines regarding the MPL Flight Instructor Training Program in Korea. This study suggests the Training Specification for the MPL Flight Instructor, including the training syllabus, training and assessment methods. The MPL Flight Instructor Training Program should be composed of minimum 14-hour academic and practical training, which includes the concept of Competency-Based Training, CRM, Competency, Behavior Indicator and Assessment. To be qualified for the MPL Flight Instructor, candidates need to successfully complete the course and pass the practical test. In order to maintain the qualification, MPL Flight Instructors should comply to recency and recurrent training requirements.
