Input filters are very important to matrix converters (MCs). They are used to improve grid side current waveform quality and to reduce the input voltage distortion supplied to the grid side. Due to the effects of the input filter and the output power, the grid side power factor (PF) is not at unity when the input power factor angle is zero. In this paper, the displacement angle between the grid side phase current and the phase voltage affected by the input filter parameters and output power is analyzed. Based on this, a new grid side PF unity compensation method implemented in the indirect space vector pulse width modulation (ISVPWM) method is presented, which has a larger compensation angle than the traditional compensation method, showing a higher grid side PF at unity in a wide output power range. Simulation and experimental results verify that the analysis of the displacement angle between the grid side phase current and the phase voltage affected by the input filter and output power is right and that the proposed compensation method has a better grid side PF at unity.
This paper presents a new compensation method of series active power filter. The proposed method applied in the three-phase three-wire system can generate harmonic compensation voltage in front of the harmonic source. Futhermore it is also expended to three-phase four-wire system considering zero-sequence voltage. The compensation principle is described in detail. Experimental result show the validity of the proposed method in the three-phase three-wire system
The power loss due to PV module mismatch in PV array system is analyzed and a mismatch compensation method is proposed. A dc-dc converter is used to compensate for series mismatch caused by a low current module in a string. The converter is controlled to maximize the array power output. The proposed compensation method was verified by PSpice simulation.
This paper is the second part of several companion papers which compare the method of Air-fuel ratio(AFR) determination. In the previous paper, Eltinge chart was applied to the arbitrary fuel composition and the charts for gasoline, diesel, methanol, M85, liquefied petroleum gas(LPG), natural gas(NG), propane and butane were illustrated. In Eltinge chart, however, unburned hydrocarbon (UHC) is not used for determination of AFR. For improving accuracy, Eltinge suggested UHC compensation after the AFR reading in the chart. This compensation reduced the difference between real and reading value. In the compensation, however, the correction of oxygen and carbon dioxide is uncertain and there might be a mistake in conversion of UHC reading value. Therefore, the error is overestimated comparing with Spindt one which is most widely used. In addition, there is no comparison of the value with other useful methods. In this paper, the compensation of unburned HC was performed in Eltinge chart and the compensated value was compared with Spindts formula over wide range of AFR. The objects of investigating fuel are gasoline, methanol, NG and LPG. The result shows that Eltinge and Spindt method is flawlessly compatible and the difference between the two methods is under 0.3% in a λrange from 0.9 to 1.7. The method fur debugging instrumentation error is also presented.
This paper concerns on stabilization control of a gyro-stabilized 2-axes gimbal system which is mounted on a moving vehicles such as automobiles, armored vehicles, ships, flying vehicles, etc. A target image acquisition system is attached on the inner gimbal, and the gimbal systems are required to retain high stabilization accuracy in the absolute coordinate in order to provide fine target image while vehicle is moving. The stabilization control performance is hardly depended upon disturbance rejection ability of control, and disturbance feedforward compensation is effective because feedforward compensation reduce the amount of disturbance before the disturbance disturbs the systems. This paper suggests an experimental method which can estimate system parameters and disturbance torques by using 3-axes accelerometer mounted on the inner gimbal. Furthermore, a simple disturbance identification method which can be applied to any slanted base conditions has been suggested to identify mass unbalance vector and friction torques of each gimbal simultaneously. By using the estimated parameters, a feedforward compensation has been applied to the gyro-stabilized 2-axes gimbal system. The experimental results showed that the feedforward compensation based on the identification method suggested is effective to improve stabilization performances.
In this study, we proposed an optical compensation method to improve the symmetricity of contrast ratio for wide viewing angle IPS (in-plane switching) LCD. First, the phase retardation depending on the thickness of compensation film is calculated, and then the phase change is presented at the $Poincar{\acute{e}}$ sphere. The phase retardation and the polarization state of the light passing through the optical elements are caculated by using the EJMM (extended Jones matrix method). In addition, the transmittance and the contrast countour are also calculated by using the Berremann's $4{\times}4$ matrix method. The simulation is carried out for a IPS LC cell with positive A/C/A compensation film. From the standard deviation of the contrast ratio, we confirmed the symmetricity at each viewing angle is inversely proportional to the standard deviation and calculated the optimum design condition of the uniaxial compensation film for the IPS LCD.
Since the direct-gradient (DG) method uses the Shack-Hartmann wave front sensor (SH-WFS), based on the phase-conjugation principle, for atmospheric compensation in free-space optical (FSO) communication, it cannot effectively correct high-order aberrations. While the stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) can compensate the distorted wave front, it requires more calculations, which is sometimes undesirable for an FSO system. A hybrid compensation (HC) method is proposed by properly using the DG method and SPGD algorithm to improve the performance of FSO communication. Simulations show that this method can well compensate wave-front aberrations and upgrade the coupling efficiency with few computations, preferable correction results, and rapid convergence rate.

Background compensation plays an important role in detecting and isolating object motion in visual tracking. Here, we propose a Genetic Hough Transform, which combines the Hough Transform and Genetic Algorithm, as a method for eliminating background motion. Our method can handle cases in which the background may contain only a few, if any, feature points. These points can be used to estimate the motion between two successive frames. In addition to dealing with featureless backgrounds, our method can successfully handle motion blur. Experimental comparisons of the results obtained using the proposed method with other methods show that the proposed approach yields a satisfactory estimate of background motion.
In this paper, the power loss due to PV module mismatch in PV string is analyzed and a mismatch compensation method is proposed to improve the efficiency of PV system. The analysis of mismatch loss using PV model simulation reveals that the mismatch module may decrease the total efficiency because the MPPT function of power conditioner make the PV system operate at the local maximum point. The mismatch loss can be severe if the maximum power point current of mismatch module is less than that of string. The proposed compensation method which is simply implemented with a buck type converter shows the possibility to remove the mismatch loss. The effectiveness of the analysis and compensation method is verified by a prototype experiment.
