  • The new approach is a kind method of restoring temporary defect. Here, it is important for the defect not to occur problems of both local effect and global system. A basic concept is that it measures remaining prestress of PSC structures during the defect is restored. This study suggested new approach for measurement of remaining prestress. Two important results are obtained. First, safety problems, local stress concentration and global system, are very satisfied. Second, measurement value exists within error bound $\pm$ 1% in comparison with known value.

  • This paper presents a recoil and counter recoil(R&CR) motion measurement method using linear variable differential transformers(LVDT). The output of a LVDT is obtained from the differential voltage of the 2nd transformers. As a sensor core is attached at the motion body, the output is directly proportional to the core motion. Displacement, velocity and acceleration are measure from the core length. With a comparison between the measurement result and the known value which is obtained by the precision steel tape, the accuracy and the usefulness of the proposed scheme is validated.

  • This study discusses a non-contact optical technique electronic, electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPI) that is well suited for in-plane and out-of-plane deformation measurement Used as specimen which has the boundary condition of two clamped parallel edges composite material AS4/PEEK[30/-30/90]s was analyzed by ESPI to determined the characteristics of tensile and vibration. These are quantitativly compared with the result of FEM analysis. Finally the results of this study are briefly summarized as follows : (1) In the in-plane strain analysis by comparison of theoretical results with experimental results qualitatively we confirmed that measurement errors are within 3 % in case of accuracy (2) From comparison of experimental vibration modes with numerical vibration mode shapes by the FEM analysis quantitatively we confirmed that vibration mode measurement by the ESPI has high accuacy.

  • This study introduces comparison the testing results of the AL car body which is applied to FSW and GMAW welding method. The car body is made of aluminum structure materials like a sandwich panel. The static load test was performed to evaluate the structural characteristic and stability of the AL car body. Considering the vertical, compressive, twisting load and 3-point supporting, Bend natural frequency Measurement, Twist natural frequency Measurement type as a testing terms, the structural stability of a car body was evaluated.

  • An acousto-optic tunable filter based 3-D micro surface profile measurement using an equally spaced 5 spectral phase shifting is described. The 5-bucket spectral phase shifting method is compared with a Fourier-transform method in the spectral domain. It can provide a fast measurement capability while maintaining high accuracy since it needs only 5 pieces of spectrally phase shifted imaging data and a simple calculation in comparison with the Fourier transform method that requires full wavelength scanning data and relatively complicated computation. The 3-D profile data of micro objects can be obtained in a few seconds with an accuracy of ${\sim}10nm$. The 3-D profile method also has an inherent benefit in terms of being speckle-free in measuring diffuse micro objects by employing an incoherent light source. Those simplicity and practical applicability is expected to have diverse applications in 3-D micro profilometry such as semiconductors and micro-biology.

  • This paper is focused on application of recursive least squares method to estimate rail irregularities from the acceleration measurement on an axle-box or a bogie for the rail condition monitoring with in-service high-speed trains. Generally, the rail condition was monitored by a special railway inspection vehicle but the monitoring method needs an expensive measurement system. A monitoring method using accelerometers on an axle-box or a bogie was already proposed in the previous study, and the displacement was successfully estimated from the acceleration data by using Kalman and frequency selective band-pass filters. However, it was found that the displacement included not only the rail irregularities but also phase delay of the applied filters, and effect of suspension of the bogie and conicity of the wheel. To identify the rail irregularities from the estimated displacement, a compensation filter method is proposed. The compensation filters are derived by using recursive least squares method with the estimated displacement as input and the measured rail irregularity as output. The estimated rail irregularities are compared with the true rail irregularity data from the rail inspection system. From the comparison, the proposed method is a useful tool for the measurement of lateral and vertical rail irregularity.

  • State Estimation (SE) is the basis of a variety of advanced applications used in most modern power systems. An SE problem formed with enough phasor measurement units (PMUs) data is simply a linear weighted least squares problem requiring no iterations. Thus, designing a minimum-cost placement of PMUs that guarantees observability of a power system becomes a worthy challenge. This paper proposes an equivalent integer linear programming method for substation-oriented optimal PMU placement (SOOPP). The proposed method uses an exhaustive search to determine a globally optimal solution representing the best PMU placement for that particular power system. To obtain a more comprehensive model, contingencies and the limitation of the number of PMU measurement channels are considered and embodied in the model as changes to the original constraints and as additional constraints. The proposed method is examined for applicability using the IEEE 14-bus, 118-bus and 300-bus test systems. The comparison between SOOPP results and results obtained by other methods reveals the excellence of SOOPP. Furthermore, practical large-scale power systems are also successfully analyzed using SOOPP.

  • As the volume of traffic in southern part of the republic of Korea grew, expansion of transportation was required. In that purpose, the railway between Samnangjin and Gwangyang is being extended to a double-track line. This construction includes Nakdong bridge located across Nakdong river. This truss bridge is constructed in incremental launching method (ILM) and composed of two sections, straight line and curved one. Bridge construction in the method goes with the shift of roller supports which results in the change of structural system. To accomplish safe construction, the measurement during the whole launching stages. The locations of member in severe condition and the corresponding response values were estimated through the preliminary construction stage analysis. Based on the analysis, the measurement during construction was planned. Several sensors and measurement devices were installed at appropriate locations. During the whole launching stages, the measurement was performed and the corresponding data were monitored and stored in real time. The comparison of the responses from the analysis and the measurement showed no indication of yielding of the structural members. Consequently, the construction of Nakdong bridge was concluded to be relevant.

Comparison of Global Field Power Measurement and Conventional Method in Multi-channel Auditory Event Related Potential P300 Determination (다채널 청각 사건관련전위 P300 결정에서 전부위장력측정법과 전통적방법의 비교)

  • Objective : The present study was designed to compare Global Field Power Measurement and conventional method in P300 determination. Method : The subjects were composed of patients(N=20) with schizophrenia by DSM-IV and normal controls(N=20). The auditory event related potential P300 was measured by "oddball paradigm". P300 components were determined by Global Field Power Measurement and conventional method at 5 electrodes(Fz, Cz, Pz, $T_3$, $T_4$). Results : P300 amplitudes of patients were smaller than those of controls across all electrodes and in both methods, but there was no differential power in P300 determination between two methods. Asymmetry of auditory event-related potential P300 was not shown between patients with schizophrenia and normal controls. Conclusion : It is implicated that it depends on clinical situations and research purposes what method of P300 determination will be more appropriate for patients with schizophernia.
