한국과 중국의 건축물 전과정 탄소배출량 평가 비교분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Comparative Analysis of Building Life Cycle Carbon Emission Assessment in Korea and China)

  • This study aims to analyze the factors that cause differences in the evaluation results of the life cycle carbon emissions assessment of buildings in both Korea and China as part of the methodology research of building life cycle assessment for Chinese buildings to promote building life cycle assessment in China. Specifically, it examines the building LCA standards of Korea and the standard for building carbon emission calculation in China as mentioned in the green building certification systems of both countries. Based on the investigation of the two standards, the life cycle carbon emissions of the evaluation target building were evaluated using the building life cycle assessment methods of both countries, and the influencing factors that cause differences in the life cycle carbon emission assessment results of the two countries were analyzed.

  • The objective of this research is to comparative LCA(life cycle assessment) between two different model of Electric Motor Unit(EMU).the environmental impact of Aluminum body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) and Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU). LCA process consists of four steps which are goal, scope definition, life cycle impact analysis(LCIA) and life cycle interpretation. ISO 14044 provides the LCA standard method which can be conducted by using comparative LCA. From the research it is foung that the Aluminium Body Electric Motor Unit (EMU) is 3.6ton heaver than Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU). The system boundary of both Electric Motor Unit (EMU) are same life span and travel same distance. These both Electric Motor Unit (EMU) has same kind of environmental impact which is maximum Ozone Depletion(OD). During using period of these two models, the Aluminium Body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) has more global warming(GW) effect but Stainless Steel(STS) body Electric Motor Unit(EMU) has more Ozone Depletion(OD) effect. The above result is obtained by using LCA software PASS verson 3.1.3.

생활폐기물(生活廢棄物) 소각(燒却) 처리공정(處理工程)의 전과정(全科程) 평가(平價)에 의한 비교(比較) (Comparison of the Incineration Processes of Domestic Wastes Based on Life Cycle Assessment)

  • For the purpose of the comparative environmental estimation of the incineration processes for domestic wastes, environmental impacts for several incineration processes for one ton of domestic wastes have been estimated by employing life cycle assessment as the environmental impact assessment method. The scheme of minimum production of environmental pollutants has been considered for three different incineration processes. The evaluation for latent influence on environment was carried out by using CML(Center of Environmental Science) method which was developed by University of Leyden in Netherlands based on the equivalency factor suggested by Korea Accreditation Board. The result of life cycle assessment has showed that the total cost analysis according to the amount of incinerating waste was dependent on the operating conditions of incineration process. In addition, the annual running cost for the incineration of one ton of wastes was estimated to be negatively dependent on the amount of wastes. The degree of environmental pollution was mainly due to the kinds of the wastes rather than by the amount of wastes.

  • Enforced environmental regulations call for extending the domain of manufacturers' responsibility to the entire product life cycle. To comply with the environmental regulations, manufacturers have constructed reverse logistics networks to re-collect their leftover waste for recycling consumed resources. However, the operational activities associated with storage, loading and transportation processes within the networks inevitably impose environmental burdens. Particularly, the transportation process largely influences environmental performance due to perpetual uses of transportation vehicles. Therefore, there is a need to develop an environmentally-conscious transportation model that can efficiently manage the uses of transportation vehicles. Additionally, it is vital to analyze its significances of environmental performance to compare quantitatively it with existing models. This paper proposes a transportation model for improving environmental performance in a reverse logistics network. This paper also presents a case study to perform its comparative analysis using Life Cycle Assessment that evaluates potential environmental impacts of a product system.

신선식품용 재사용 EPE박스와 EPS박스에 대한 전과정 환경영향평가 (Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of Reusable and Disposable Distribution Packaging for Fresh Food)

  • In this study, we conducted a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of two different products, considering reusable and single-use packaging for fresh food distribution. For reusable packaging, we utilized expanded polyethylene (EPE), while for comparison, a disposable box made of widely used expanded polystyrene (EPS) was selected. We comprehensively analyzed the environmental impacts of production, transportation, reprocessing (for reused boxes), and disposal across 18 impact categories. Upon analyzing the actual reuse of 300 rounds of fresh food, the cumulative global warming potential (GWP) values for the EPE box were found to be 280.21 kg carbon dioxide (CO2) eq, demonstrating a significant 75% reduction compared to those of the EPS box. Furthermore, it was observed that the GWP values for the EPE boxes became equivalent to those of the EPS boxes after 12 rounds of reuse. In conclusion, reusable packaging shows substantial potential to contribute to the reduction of environmental burdens, aligning well with global environmental requirements for sustainable food distribution and related industries.

A Study on the Estimation Method of the Environmental Load Intensity for Analyzing GHG Reduction Effect of Han-Ok

  • The Korean government recently has rediscovered the potential value of Han-Ok, the Korean traditional house, as an eco-friendly building. In order to objectively verify the environmental performance of Han-Ok as a low carbon green building, this paper suggests the analysis method of GHG emission load of Korean traditional house, based on Life Cycle Assessment, which is commonly abbreviated to "LCA". The environmental impacts caused by building construction and operation can be analyzed through the sum of input and output data from every phase. The study particularly describes the GHG reduction effect by using traditional building materials such as wood products, traditional clay roof tiles, and mud, which are mainly used to construct Han-Ok. Also the study proposes the method for comparative analysis of quantity of GHG emissions in building's entire life cycle so that the data can be used as a reliable basis to optimize the environmental performance of building.

  • 전동차 내장패널에 대한 비교전과정평가를 실시하였다. ISO14044 표준과 에코인디케이터 99 방법론, SimaPro 7.0 software, Ecoinvent DB를 이용하여 전과정목록 DB를 구축하고 LCA를 수행하였다. 전동차 내장패널의 환경성 측면에 대한 일반적인 예상에 대하여 LCA를 통한 검증을 수행하였다. 전동차 내장패널의 중량이 환경성과 상관이 있음에도 불구하고 상대적 중요도는 높지 않았으며, Al 내장패널의 경우 사용단계의 환경영향이 가장 큼에도 불구하고 타 재질 내장패널에 비해 제작단계의 환경영향이 주요환경이슈로 도출되었다. Al 내장패널의 경우, 재활용으로 인한 환경편익이 크나, 장기적으로는 제작단계의 환경영향을 저감하여야 타 재질 대비 환경성 측면의 경쟁력을 강화할 수 있다.

Comparative Analysis of SOx Emission-Compliant Options for Marine Vessels from Environmental Perspective

  • With growing concerns over air pollutions attributed to shipping activities, the international maritime organization has enacted a series of stringent regulations. In particular, MARPOL Annex IV Reg. 16 requires sulfur contents from exhaust gases of marine engines to be progressively reduced. To comply with this regulation, three feasible options have been introduced: using LNG as a marine fuel, using heavy fuel oil with the scrubber system, and using the marine gas oil (a type of low sulfur fuel oil). For the objectives of this paper, the holistic environmental impacts pertinent to these options were investigated and compared in ways that the flows of energy and emission were tracked and quantified through the life cycle of the ship. Research findings obtained from a case study with a large bulk carrier showed that the use of the scrubber system to purify heavy fuel oil would produce relatively fewer amounts of emissions attributing to global warming than other two options. On the other than, the use of LNG would be the way to operate the ship in a cleaner way in terms of reducing the acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical effects. Throughout the analysis, the excellence of life cycle assessment was proven to shift the environmental impact of marine systems from the short-term view to the long-term one.

CO2 배출량 추정을 위한 간략 모델 개발: 아스팔트 포장을 중심으로 (Development of a Simplified Model for Estimating CO2 Emissions: Focused on Asphalt Pavement)

  • 미래를 위협하는 요인의 하나로 이산화탄소 증가로 인한 지구온난화가 지적되고 있다. 각 나라들과 각 산업별로 이산화탄소 배출량을 줄이고자 하는 노력을 기울이고 있으며 전과정 평가라는 정량화된 방법으로 구조물 및 건축물의 전과정 동안 발생하는 환경부하 및 환경영향을 정량적으로 평가하고 았다. 하지만 건설분야의 경우에는 LCI DB도 충분히 구축되어 있지 않고 전과정 기간이 매우 길고 구조물 및 건축물도 유일무이한 경우가 많아서 전과정 평가를 수행하는데 많은 노력과 시간이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 아주 정확한 탄소배출량을 추정하기 보다는 발주가 또는 설계자가 환경부하 저감과 관련한 신속한 의사결정이 필요한 경우에 적은 노력으로 이산화탄소 배출량을 편리하게 추정할 수 있는 간략화된 추정모델을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 전국 25개 도로현장 데이터를 이용하여 일반적인 LCA를 수행하였으며 수행된 결과를 이용하여 다중회귀분석을 실시하여 간편 추정식을 도출하였다. 간편 추정식으로 산출된 이산화타소 배출량과 일반적인 LCA를 수행하여 추정한 배출량을 비교한 결과 16개 도로현장의 경우에 오차율이 5% 미만으로 의미있는 결과가 도출되었다.
