  • Since 1939, Bupeyong was rapidly urbanized and industrialized for the purpose of constructing military logistics base of the empire of Japan. Based on Kyungin urban planning of 1940 and industrial land development plan of Kyeonggido, many military factories and arsenal were constructed, and great amount of housing were also built for their workers from 1939 to 1944. Although the initial urban planning was unfinished, urban change from rural area to military industrial city in the late Japanese colonial era, made identity of city of Bupyeong. Workers houses which built during five years vary in different size and type, and somewhat reflects discussions about housing attempts to solve the housing shortage. This study aims to analyze architectural characteristics of workers housing related with discussions of housing, and to evaluate its value as an industrial heritage which constitute the urban landscape of the industrial city of Bupyeong. Workers houses in Bupyeong were constructed by military factories, construction company, and Chosun housing administration, with land readjustment planning. As the war became serious, workers housing became smaller and simpler. Construction of workers housing was essential part of modern military industrial city, bupyeong, and many of workers housing are still remained whereas most of factories were demolished, thus workers housing of bupyeong has significant meaning as industrial heritage of Bupyeong.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the design concept for the brand identity communication of the housing cultural center. The case studies, case of two flagship stores and two housing cultural centers, were used in this study for analyzing each case‘s characteristics, brand identity components and design components. As the result of this study, there are differences between the flagship stores and housing cultural centers. The major differences are as follows. First, the flagship stores offer variety of experiences in the store so people can enjoy a lot of unexpected programs whereas the housing cultural centers do not have ones. Second, the flagship stores have dramatic facades so that people want to enter the space even though they do not need to buy anything. However, the housing cultural centers do not have any exciting elements in the facade even most of them are located in the downtown. Moreover, people can have a lot of visual and emotional experiences in the flagship stores from unique merchandising display, changeable wallpapers, movable walls, etc. In other words, designers who are in charge of housing cultural centers should consider carefully to design both interior and facade. Also, company should invest their efforts to make better housing cultural centers because they are the best way to express their own brand identity.

  • At present, there are many companies that can produce modular housing. However, if the housing projects are conducted without design standards and principles, each company will supply housing according to its own design standards, resulting in a loss of opportunity to promote standardization at a national level. Korea's modular construction technology is still in its infancy, and there is a lack of MC design applications due to the limited construction market. In recent years, however, related R&D has been carried out by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in order to activate modular construction. As a result, test-beds for public rental housing are currently being built, and the public rental housing applied with the modular construction method is expected to spread in the near future. In this regard, this study seeks to promote more economical and efficient production and supply of modular housing. To this end, it investigates the current status of modular construction, analyzes the problems and proposes a serious of MC design standards as part of the design standardization and open system for modular housing industry to solve the problems.

  • This study researches the dwelling satisfaction about apartment remodeling by inspecting ten apartments located in Gwang-Ju, Jun-Nam province. The method of study is to use the field study method, which is based on cultural anthropology, and the participant observation method at same time. According to the research, we find those things as they follow. First, the participation of residents and the mutual agreement are necessary in the process of the selecting a company. Furthermore it's hard to solve the problem about an uniform design and an inferior construction. These things are the most serious factor in dissatisfaction of resident environment. Second, the space of storage and veranda should be separated for the proper functions and the space for laundry is necessary. The rooms, except bedroom, and the bathroom in the main living room should be used for practical application because they are not used so often and if we make the veranda as a inner space, we've got to make a gardening plan, too. Through this research we find out that the participation of an expert company and residents for enough communication and mutual agreement and the space plan for the satisfaction of occupants are necessary for the proper apartment remodeling.

  • The modular construction means that more than 70% of the parts such as walls, windows, electrical wiring, facility piping, bathrooms, and kitchen appliances are pre-assembled at the factory and transported to the site. It is possible to shorten the construction period than general construction work and to secure high quality through modular mass production since the modular construction works in the field at the same time as the modular production. However, there are only four domestic modular manufacturers, and each company's modular components and construction methods are different, so it is necessary to standardize them. Therefore, this study investigated the construction process centering on the stacking method of modular housing construction work applied to D site in Cheonan-si, and proposed the key points of quality management by construction stage. As the project was conducted as a pilot project for government R&D projects, some differences may occur from general modular housing construction. However, the construction process and quality control focus of each unit box type modular house analyzed in this study can be used as basic data in the future of modular housing construction. In addition, the results of this study can be used to establish construction standards, such as the development of checklists and establishment of standard processes.

  • The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between environment-friendly housing behaviors and the influential variables among consumers by focusing on housing life. This research carried out a questionnaire survey with housewives living in Seoul and the Metropolitan area using a questionnaire that was composed based on previous research. The housewives' environment-friendly housing attitudes and their resource-saving knowledge level, along with environmental education-related variables, house ownership, and the housewives' employment appeared to be significant variables in explaining the generic environment-friendly housing behaviors found in this research. Three regression equations, classified into purchasing, utilization, and disposal behaviors, were employed. The empirical results were relatively similar to those for the generic environment-friendly housing behaviors; however, each model provided somewhat different results in some specific aspects. All the environmental education-related variables appeared to be significant in explaining environment-friendly housing utilization behaviors, and were similar to the results obtained from the generic environment-friendly housing behaviors. However, the variables were limited in explaining environment-friendly housing-related disposal behaviors. The convenience, recycling ease, and family-structure variables appeared to be significant influences on environment-friendly housing-related disposal behaviors. Most empirical results of this research were consistent with those of previous studies. However, the explanatory independent variables varied, depending on the types of each domain of environment-friendly housing behaviors studied.
