국내 반려동물 식품 및 용품 시장현황 분석 연구 (A Study on the Market trends Analysis of Companion Animal Food and Products in Korea)

  • 최근 반려동물을 키우는 가구 수가 증가함에 따라 반려동물의 식품 및 용품 산업이 급속하게 성장하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 반려동물의 식품 및 용품의 시장현황을 분석하여 관련 정책 및 산업체에서 활용할 수 있는 기초자료를 제시하고자 한다. 닐슨코리아의 전국 도 소매 유통망을 활용하여 자료를 취합하고 사용하였다. 반려견 식품의 경우 국내업체 PB제품이 가장 높은 점유율(24.6%)을 가지고 있으며, 국내업체 점유율(54.8%)이 수입업체 점유율(45.2%)보다 높게 나타났다. 반려묘 식품 역시 국내업체 PB제품이 가장 높은 점유율(16.5%)을 가지고 있으나, 수입업체 점유율(71.6%)이 국내업체 점유율(28.4%)보다 높게 나타났다. 반려동물 장난감 경우 국내업체의 노즈워크 담요 판매 점유율(28.0%)이 가장 높으며, 구강용품(62.5%), 목욕용품(59.5%) 또한 국내 업체들의 제품이 점유율 상위권으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 국내 업체들이 대내적으로는 지속적인 시장점유율을 높이고 대외적으로는 수출을 확대할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

A Plan to Vitalize the Companion Animal Fashion Market using Domestically Produced Fabrics

  • As the number of companion animals reaches 15 million in 2022, the pet wear market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 14.5% from KRW 1.5684 trillion in 2014 to a market size of over KRW 6 trillion in 2027. However, most of the pet clothing and various supplies currently in circulation are either cheap, low-quality products imported from China or other countries, or expensive products released by overseas luxury brands. Therefore, it is urgent to develop a brand that can compete with luxury products coming from overseas by developing premium pet fashion products using high-end functional fabrics produced domestically. This study seeks to propose ways to revitalize the domestic pet fashion market by examining the current status of global pet fashion, the domestic textile industry, and the current status of the pet fashion market. The suggestions and expected effects are as follows. First, active support is needed for the development of products using domestically produced fabrics, such as raising awareness through various subsidy projects and contests. Second, it is expected that small and medium-sized businesses will be revitalized through the production of pet fashion products using high-quality functional knit fabrics produced in northern Gyeonggi Province. Third, it is necessary to produce high-quality premium products through continuous and intensive support from the government and collaboration between large corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises. Fourth, there is an urgent need to provide opportunities to train experts for the expected effects of starting businesses and creating new jobs.

천연물 유래의 반려동물 항바이러스활성물질 연구 동향 (Research Trend of Antiviral Natural Products for Companion Animal)

  • Recently, companion animal culture has grown rapidly and mature, raising interest in preventing and treating animal diseases. In particular, viral infection was a serious threat to companion animal health because there was no proper antiviral drugs. Synthetic antiviral drugs have limitations such as low efficiency, toxicity, and occurrence of resistant viruses. Therefore, attempts to find new anti-viral drugs from natural sources have continued. This review focused on the natural products and active substances that exhibit antiviral activity against three viruses: canine distemper virus (CDV), canine parvovirus (CPV), and feline calicivirus (FCV) that cause fatal diseases in dogs and cats. Natural plant extracts, flavonoids, polysaccharides, alkaloids and saponins showed antiviral activity with various mechanisms and differences in activity depending on the structure. Especially, quercetin and epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) showed antiviral activity through a multi-mechanism that interferes with the attachment and penetration stages of the virus and inhibits the viral polymerase within the cell. Some natural plant extracts showed a virucidal activity and showed the potential effect as a preventative agent to prevent the viral infection. This review is expected to provide research trend on the development of antiviral natural products for companion animals.

반려동물 용품 및 화장품 산업 현황 (The Current Status of the Companion Animal products and Pet Cosmetics industry)

  • 코로나 시대에 반려동물은 우리에게 많은 위안을 주고, 가족처럼 반려동물을 여기는 펫팸족이 등장하였다. 그리고 젊은 소비자는 자신에게 소비할 금액을 줄여서 반려동물에게 소비하는 패턴을 보이는 펫푸어도 볼 수 있다. 하지만 이러한 시대적인 변화에도 불구하고 펫푸드를 포함한 반려동물 용품 및 화장품은 여전히 수입 의존도가 높고, 국내의 반려동물 화장품 및 용품에 대한 기준이 설정되어 있지 않아 화장품 안전기준 등에 관한 규정에만 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 또한 국내 반려동물 용품 및 화장품에 관한 용어도 아직 정립되지 않은 상태이다. 현재 국내 법률은 반려동물과 관련한 동물보호법 만이 존재하지만 일본에서는 반려동물 사료안전법이 2009년 6월부터 시행되었고, 미국은 연방식품, 의약품, 화장품 관리법에서 반려동물 화장품 및 용품을 담당하고, 동물보호법이 강력한 독일은 식품 및 사료에 대한 다양한 국가 차원의 법규가 있다. 그리고 식품 안전국 웹 사이트에서도 국가 규정을 정밀하게 확인 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구는 국외의 빠르게 성장하고 안정적인 반려동물 산업처럼 국내에서도 반려 동물 산업을 관리하고 개발을 뒷받침 해주는 국가 정책과 환경 등이 반려동물 용품 및 화장품 그 외 다양한 반려동물 관련 산업을 해외시장으로 수출하는데 기초자료로 반드시 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

  • The population of domestic companion animals is estimated to be about 10 million now. In recent years, the domestic pet market has been launching a wide range of products and services for high quality, smart and well-being. As a result, the market size will increase from 900 billion won in 2012 to 2.3 trillion won in 2016, which has more than doubled in five years. The industry expects to reach 6 trillion won by 2020, expecting 3 trillion won this year. In particular, domestic dogs and cats market is estimated at 275.5 billion won, accounting for 19% of the domestic animal market and 1.425 billion won for the world market. However, despite the growing market for companion animals products, unfortunately the import dependence on related industrial goods is still high and the quality of service is very low. Unlike Europe and the United States, 90% of companion animals are housed in apartments, often causing problems in the health and safety of companions and companions. The purpose of this study is to develop a smart house for companion animals with environmental friendliness and AI function that can be won in competition with products of developed countries. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the creation of a new value - added base for the related industries through the strengthening of the competitiveness of the related SMEs and further the effect of employment increase and import substitution.

바이러스성 위장염에 효과를 가지는 프로바이오틱스: 총설 (Anti-Viral Activities of Probiotics against Viral Gastroenteritis: A Review)

  • Globally, acute gastroenteritis is responsible for two million pediatric deaths. In particular, viral gastroenteritis is the most common cause of acute diarrhea, and most children aged <5 years are infected at least once. The common symptoms include profuse watery diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever. Viral gastroenteritis is generally caused by rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus, and adenovirus. Recently, probiotics use has increased rapidly worldwide due to its inhibitory effect against viral gastroenteritis. In addition, probiotics are known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects and enhance immunity without any side effects. Therefore, this review focuses on the anti-viral effects of probiotics on viral gastroenteritis. Furthermore, this review would provide basic data that could be used for developing new products that have improved functionality by addition of probiotics to milk and dairy food.

반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰의 서비스품질이 고객만족과 충성도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Service Quality Factors of Companion Animal Online Shopping Malls on Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty)

  • 개, 고양이 등과 같은 애완동물을 가족 구성원, 동반자의 개념으로 받아들이게 되어 반려동물로 부르는 일이 점점 보편화되게 되었다. 반려동물을 사람과 동일시하고 가족의 일원으로 대우하는 추세가 점점 확산되면서 사람들이 반려동물을 위한 음식, 건강, 여가 등에 더욱 신경 쓰게 되고 고가의 제품을 찾고 이와 연관된 비즈니스의 성장을 가속화시키고 있다. 본 연구는 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰을 방문한 고객들을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 진행하여 데이터를 수집하였다. 반려동물을 키우면서 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰에서 한 번이라도 구매해 본 사람들만을 대상으로 수집한 자료를 실증분석에 활용하였다. 205명의 설문지가 수집되었지만 불성실한 응답을 한 설문지를 제외하고 총 198부가 분석에 사용되었다. 본 연구를 통해 확인한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 탐색적 요인분석을 통해 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰의 서비스품질요인은 의사소통거래, 안전보안, 디자인, 정보제공의 4개 차원으로 구성됨을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰 서비스품질요인인 의사소통거래, 정보제공, 디자인, 안전보안은 모두 고객만족에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰의 고객만족은 충성도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 준다는 것을 확인하였다. 넷째, 반려동물 온라인 쇼핑몰의 서비스품질요인들(의사소통거래, 안전보안, 디자인, 정보제공)과 충성도 간의 관계에서 고객만족은 완전매개효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

Evaluation of Sensory Profile of Milk Analogs Containing Clove Oil: A Preliminary Study

  • Eugenol, which can be extracted from clove oil, is a phenolic aromatic compound and has been found to have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant functions. Consequently, clove oil has long been used in several fields (food, medicine, skincare). Hence, in this study, the sensory profile of clove oil contained in milk analogs (almond, oat, and soy milks) was evaluated at different amounts (added at 0.25%-0.5% increments from 0% to 1.5%). Because of the strong scent of clove oil, the value of the evaluation for sensory profile determined in this study tended to be low. However, compared with the control group, good values in the evaluation for the sensory profile were found in all samples containing 0.25% of clove oil. We evaluated clove oil contained in milk analogs to help increase their sales through products with improved functionality.

반려동물애호가 대상 동물의약품 사용 및 동물약국 이용 현황 조사 (A Survey on the use of veterinary medicines and veterinary pharmacies by companion animal lovers)

  • Background: In modern society, the number of households raising companion animals increases, and the market for veterinary medicines is expanding even more. This study aims to investigate the perception of companion animal lovers' veterinary medicines, the necessity of specific guidance by pharmacists for veterinary medicines, the role of pharmacists at veterinary pharmacies, and ways to fulfill that role. Methods: This study evaluated veterinary medicines and medication guidance through Google online questionnaire targeting pet-lovers from December 20, 2021, until January 19, 2022. The questions consist of 1) characteristics of petlovers, 2) purchase history and drug recognition of veterinary drugs, 3) use of veterinary vaccines, 4) use of diagnostic kits, and 5) guidance of veterinary medicines by local pharmacists. Results: The respondents' experience purchasing veterinary drugs was as high as 94.4%. The most purchased drug was heartworm-preventing products, and vaccination was performed mainly at veterinary clinics (veterinarians). The respondents primarily purchased veterinary medicines for companion animals at veterinary hospitals and did not know the name of the drugs which they bought. In addition, respondents expected to receive specific information on veterinary medicines from pharmacists. Conclusion: As the number of veterinary pharmacies in the community will increase with the expansion of the companion animal market, pharmacists should play their role as experts in veterinary medicines through systematic and continuous professional education.

Effects of Queso Blanco Cheese Containing Bifidobacterium longum KACC 91563 on the Intestinal Microbiota and Short Chain Fatty Acid in Healthy Companion Dogs

  • The effects of Queso Blanco cheese containing Bifidobacterium longum KACC 91563 was studied on the intestinal microbiota and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in healthy companion dogs. There were three experimental groups with five healthy dogs each: a control group, not fed with any cheese, and groups fed with Queso Blanco cheese with (QCB) or without B. longum KACC 91563 (QC) for 8 weeks. Fecal samples were collected 5 times before, during, and after feeding with cheese. Intestinal microbiota was analyzed using two non-selective agar plates (BL and TS) and five selective agar plates (BS, NN, LBS, TATAC, and MacConkey). SPME-GC-MS method was applied to confirm SCFAs and indole in dog feces. The six intestinal metabolites such as acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, isovaleric acid and indole were identified in dog feces. Administration of B. longum KACC 91563 (QCB) for 8 weeks significantly increased the beneficial intestinal bacteria such as Bifidobacterium ($8.4{\pm}0.55$) and reduced harmful bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae and Clostridium (p<0.05). SCFA such as acetic and propionic acid were significantly higher in the QCB group than in the Control group (p<0.05). In conclusion, this study demonstrates that administration of Queso Blanco cheese containing B. longum KACC 91563 had positive effects on intestinal microbiota and metabolites in companion dogs. These results suggest that Queso Blanco cheese containing B. longum KACC 91563 could be used as a functional food for companion animals and humans.
