Improvement of Output Linearity of Matrix Converters with a General R-C Commutation Circuit

  • In this paper, a matrix converter with improved low frequency output performance is proposed by achieving a one-step commutation owing to a general commutation circuit applicable to n-phase to m-phase matrix converters. The commutation circuit consists of simple resister and capacitor components, leading to a very stable, reliable and robust operation. Also, it requires no extra sensing information to achieve commutation, allowing for a one-step commutation like a conventional dead time commutation. With the dead time commutation strategy applied, the distortion caused by commutation delay is analyzed and compensated, therefore leading to better output linear behavior. In this paper, detailed commutation procedures of the R-C commutation circuit are analyzed. A selection of specific semiconductor switches and commutation circuit components is also provided. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed commutation method is verified through a two-phase to single-phase matrix converter and the feasibility of the compensation approach is shown by an open loop space vector modulated three-phase matrix converter with a passive load.

  • The commutation and control in matrix converters is more complicated as in voltage source converters. Natural freewheeling paths do not exist and the theoretic absent storage elements result in a direct coupled system of load and line currents as well as voltages. The paper offers an overview about staggered commutation and control policies in matrix converters. Based on the knowledge about load current direction and the signs of the line to line input voltages different multi-step commutation policies were derived. This paper examines the application of that policies in the case of space vector modulation and direct control methods with the focus on the resulting effects to the reference output voltage deviation.

  • In this paper, a single phase matrix converter circuit with novel commutation technique is proposed. With commercial IGBT modules, the proposed converter is quite compact in structure and easy to build. The applied commutation strategy introduces a simple RC circuit as commutation aid without need for sensing information, leading to stable and reliable operation. The modulation method is explained; the detailed commutation procedure is illustrated. Finally, the simulation results show the validity and verification of the proposed single phase matrix converter.

  • This study proposes an input filter for a gallium-nitride-based direct matrix converter with a stepless current commutation technique. Various current commutation strategies have been adopted for reliable operation of switches. These strategies are complex to be implemented and require additional components. The stepless current commutation technique is simple to operate but causes overcurrent issues due to the occurrence of short circuit on input sources. In this study, to restrict the short circuit current, we utilized GaN devices with fast switching properties and modified the input filter. The proposed input filter was verified by experimental results of induction motor drive.

  • 매트릭스 컨버터는 VS떼 비하여 장수명, 입력역률 직접제어 및 에너지 회생 등의 장점을 갖고 있으나, 제어의 복잡성, ride-through 대책 및 낮은 전압이용률 등은 상용화를 위해 해결해야 할 난제이다. 본 논문에서는 SVM를 적용한 매트릭스 컨버터의 설계 및 구현방법을 제안한다. 입력 고조파를 저감시키기 위한 입력필터와 입출력의 과전압 방지와 free-wheeling을 위한 클램프 회로의 설계기법을 제시하고, 고속 DSP와 CPLD를 사용하여 공간벡터 제어 및 4 단계 전류(commutation) 제어를 구현하며, 매트릭스 컨버터의 양방향 스위치 구동을 위한 전용의 전원회로를 설계하여, 최적 구조의 전력회로를 제안한다. 그리고 구현된 매트릭스 컨버터를 유도전동기에 적용하여 성공적인 운전 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • We obtain the general moment of non-central Wishart distribu-tion, using the J-th moment of a matrix quadratic form and the 2J-th moment of the matrix normal distribution. As an example, the second moment and kurtosis of non-central Wishart distribution are also investigated.

  • In the single-input and single-output system, the parameter of plant is scalar polynomial, but in the multiple input and multiple output, it accompanies, being matrix polynomial, the consideration of observable controlability index or problems non-commutation in matrix polynomial as well as degree, and it is more complex to deal with. Therefore, it is thought that a full research on the single-input and single-output system is not sufficient. This paper proposes that problems of minimum variance self-tuning regulator by using numerical calculation example of multivariable system and pole assignment self-tuning regulator.
