The purpose of this study suggests the emotion of residents as indexes in Korean housing environment for providing a fundamental guideline for precise dwelling social science and indicating the view for understanding of residents in korean housing culture in korea. So this paper explores the role of residents emotion indexes in housing environment and community. For this study, survey and depth-interview methods were used for data collection. The subjects were 514 housewives living in apartments. The statistical methods for data analysis were frequency, mean, multiple linear regression and logistic regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program The major findings are as follows: 1)Pride of neighborhood, pride of apartment complex and sense of superiority were important factors for residental satisfaction. 2)Conspicuous image of neighbors and active contact with neighbors were import factors for their neighborship in the apartment complex. The results develop the housing environment evaluation indexes in community through the contextual understanding of space emotion society.
The purpose of this research is to examine residents' needs for shared community spaces and to explore the relationships between these needs and characteristics of consumers such as age and employment status of the homemakers, family life cycle stage, occupation of the primary income provider, housing size, and homeownership. Statistical data were compiled to determine frequencies and percentage distributions, and subjected to General Linear Model and Duncan-test analysis. Most residents wanted to utilize the basements of their complexes for storage space. Further interest was shown for shared community spaces that would be run by residents themselves, such as vegetable gardens, indoor playgrounds for children, senior citizen's activity rooms, walking paths, study rooms, and lounges. Female residents under 45 years old were likely to express needs for storage spaces for bicycle, and multipurpose rooms for meetings and family events. Female residents with jobs were more likely to desire shared community spaces than full-time females residents were. These findings imply the need for consideration of diverse plans rather than uniform ones. This results can be usefully applied to develop new apartment housing for different social class residents.
The purpose of this study was to make clear considerations in the planning of community housing and the roles of coordinators. Seongmisan village, a representative urban community village in Seoul, was selected for this study on problem solving between residents and opinion coordination between residents and coordinators. For this qualitative research, 2 residents and 2 coordinators answered 'open questionnaires' on prior basic planning, land purchase, financing, architectural planning, construction and inspection, and actual living conditions thereafter. They were each interviewed for 2 hours at a time that was 14-16 months after the residents started living in the new houses, and the records were transcribed. The following was the result. 1) The residents, who ruled the steps of prior basic planning and land purchase, did not have sufficient information or knowledge of the construction of community housing, so that they faced difficulties especially in the legal and financial aspects. 2) The coordinators participated in the project at the steps of architectural planning and construction. The residents accepted the coordinators' opinions on the choice of floor and position, and the coordinators listened to the residents' opinions on individual plans and finishing materials. In the construction step, however, there was conflict between them, and dissatisfaction occurred on the completion time and construction cost. For the successful construction of community housing, a professional coordination company needs to join the project to establish a system of opinion coordinating from the step of prior basic planning to the step of afterconstruction management.

Preferred common facilities in the UBRC were indoor fitness centers, the shuttle bus stops connecting to the adjacent areas, and bath and sauna facilities. In these days, according to various life-styles and new attitudes about the quality of life, apartment has been developed in various types like high rise residential complex and apartments with special themes. This study has been focused on the transition of modem urban housing in France. The origin of a word, apartment, has been defined and history of apartment in French urban life has been analyzed focusing on the common space and community facilities. Representative apartments in the 18th, 19th and 20th century were selected and comparatively analyzed. Especially in the 19th century, urban housing for working class had been a major concern among the communist and the bourgeoisie and has its own characteristics relative to each other. The characteristics shown in the apartment by the communist in France have been followed in the Korean apartments since 1960's, then the recent trends are rapidly changing in the housing market in Korea. This study aims to understand the current state of a community project in Seoul and to determine a revitalization plan for community projects of inhabitants initiative. Regarding the research methods, 10 apartments that participated in this activation project in Seoul were selected, 31 residents who participated in community activities were surveyed, and 20 community planners in Seoul were surveyed. The results indicate that community leaders are the most important factor in community programs. community leaders must be able to promote participation and a spirit of service; they must also be capable of managing and implementing programs. To ensure that local community resources are utilized and integrated, it was shown that consultation and human resources are of the highest necessity. Moreover, regarding community education, it was shown that for providing general opportunities and means by which community activities may be implemented, program information and space applications are crucial. Furthermore, financial support and support for public relations activities from the government are necessary. To activate apartment communities, first, community education programs for residents must be provided. Second, a system that facilitates access to and sharing of resources from areas outside the community must be established. Third, financial support should be consistent to support community activities. Finally, the promotion of community vitalization at the government level is necessary.
The ritual for community is a group ritual performed by the regional community of a village for the safety of the residents and abundant harvests. However, many ritual places have been destroyed by the anti-superstition movement, New Community Movement (Saemaul Movement), industrialization and urbanization since the 1960s. Under the circumstances, this study researched the status of use of the ritual place in Beommul-dong in Daegu where the ritual was revived in 2004 after having been suspended since the end of the 1980s due to urbanization. The revival of the ritual for community in Beommul-dong in Daegu, which had been maintained by the village people alone, is the prime example of the vitalization of local community as the recreation of local community, since the ritual has been transformed into a kind of festival involved with and financed by the local government. The study on analyzing the usage pattern of the ritual place may provide useful sources to come up with the modernized functions of the ritual place as a community place, where the heads of the ward office and cultural center, lawmakers and most of the residents perform the ritual, share foods and tread on the God of the Earth across the village at 11:30 in the morning on every January 16 of the lunar calendar.

As a new way of stabilizing the housing for the urban poor, the Korean government proposed 'Dagagu' Housing Purchase and Public Rental Program (DPPRP) and implemented a pilot program in 2004. The purpose of this study was to find out whether DPPRP could be an alternative measure to solve the housing problems facing the urban poor. Physical aspects and community conditions of 'Dagagu' housing purchased by the government will be evaluated. The changes in the tenants' perception of the quality of housing after moving in the current dwellings will be studied. 46 households were temporarily selected, who moved in the purchased public rental housing in 5 districts (DPPRP pilot area). And among them, 32 households were designated as the final subjects, which could do the interview. The surveyors made door-to-door visits to tenants' houses and conducted in-depth interview by using a questionnaire The effects of 'Dagagu' Housing Purchase and Public Rental Program can be summarized according to housing environment aspects and economic aspects as follows: After moving in the public rental housing, the respondents saw improvements in overall housing environment and were satisfied with the current housing. According to a survey on the rental fee before and after moving in public rental housing, the rental fee of the latter had greatly declined. Given that the quality of previous housing was inferior to the current housing, the lessened rental burden was very meaningful.
