With the advent of communication technologies including electronic collaborative tools and conferencing systems provided over the Internet, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly common in organizations. Virtual collaboration refers to an environment in which the people working together are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility for outcomes, are geographically dispersed, and rely on mediated rather than face-to face, communication to produce an outcome. Research suggests that new sets of individual skill, knowledge, and ability (SKAs) are required to perform effectively in today's virtualized workplace, which is labeled as individual virtual competence. It is also argued that use of online social networking sites may influence not only individuals' daily lives but also their capability to manage their work-related relationships in organizations, which in turn leads to better performance. The existing research regarding (1) the relationship between virtual competence and task performance and (2) the relationship between online networking and task performance has been conducted based on different theoretical perspectives so that little is known about how online social networking and virtual competence interplay to predict individuals' task performance. To fill this gap, this study raises the following research questions: (1) What is the individual virtual competence required for better adjustment to the virtual collaboration environment? (2) How does online networking via diverse social network service sites influence individuals' task performance in organizations? (3) How do the joint effects of individual virtual competence and online networking influence task performance? To address these research questions, we first draw on the prior literature and derive four dimensions of individual virtual competence that are related with an individual's self-concept, knowledge and ability. Computer self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to use computer technology broadly. Remotework self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to work and perform joint tasks with others in virtual settings. Virtual media skill is defined as the degree of confidence of individuals to function in their work role without face-to-face interactions. Virtual social skill is an individual's skill level in using technologies to communicate in virtual settings to their full potential. It should be noted that the concept of virtual social skill is different from the self-efficacy and captures an individual's cognition-based ability to build social relationships with others in virtual settings. Next, we discuss how online networking influences both individual virtual competence and task performance based on the social network theory and the social learning theory. We argue that online networking may enhance individuals' capability in expanding their social networks with low costs. We also argue that online networking may enable individuals to learn the necessary skills regarding how they use technological functions, communicate with others, and share information and make social relations using the technical functions provided by electronic media, consequently increasing individual virtual competence. To examine the relationships among online networking, virtual competence, and task performance, we developed research models (the mediation, interaction, and additive models, respectively) by integrating the social network theory and the social learning theory. Using data from 112 employees of a virtualized company, we tested the proposed research models. The results of analysis partly support the mediation model in that online social networking positively influences individuals' computer self-efficacy, virtual social skill, and virtual media skill, which are key predictors of individuals' task performance. Furthermore, the results of the analysis partly support the interaction model in that the level of remotework self-efficacy moderates the relationship between online social networking and task performance. The results paint a picture of people adjusting to virtual collaboration that constrains and enables their task performance. This study contributes to research and practice. First, we suggest a shift of research focus to the individual level when examining virtual phenomena and theorize that online social networking can enhance individual virtual competence in some aspects. Second, we replicate and advance the prior competence literature by linking each component of virtual competence and objective task performance. The results of this study provide useful insights into how human resource responsibilities assess employees' weakness and strength when they organize virtualized groups or projects. Furthermore, it provides managers with insights into the kinds of development or training programs that they can engage in with their employees to advance their ability to undertake virtual work.
The purpose of this research are as follows. The first is to investigate the mediating effect of interpersonal skill on the relationship between the ability to use Internet and social activity among the 50's and 60's. The second is to compare 60's latent mean of core variables with 50's ones in terms of information gap. The data was Seoul welfare panel data made by Seoul welfare foundation in 2008 and the total subject was 941(50's=644, 60's=297). When it comes to the research methods, structured equation analysis for verifying the mediating effect and latent mean analysis for comparing the two groups were practiced. The results of this research are as follows. First of all, interpersonal skill did function as partial mediator. Second, according to the latent mean analysis, the group of 50's showed a more higher level of the ability to use Internet. On the other hand, the group of 60's revealed a more active social participation. In conclusion, Information educational programs should focus on Internet communication skill for enhancing social activities of the elderly and consider the differentiations among the elder generations.

This study analyzed characteristics of computer education from the perspective of $21^{st}$ Century Skills and Computational thinking. $21^{st}$ Century Skills are essential skills for success in today's world. They include critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration. Computational thinking is a necessary ability in the age of convergence and a core concept of computer science education. This study first examined characteristics of $21^{st}$ Century Skills and Computational thinking. Then, it analyzed the relationship between these two skills and 'Informatics' curriculum. 'Informatics' is an elective course in K-12. The results of this study emphasized the importance and the necessity of computer education in the K-12 level.

For the increasingly complicated and technology dependent 21st century, ICT literacy is being emphasized by education authorities as a key ability needed to succeed in a knowledge-based society. Accordingly, since 2007, several studies have been conducted to measure the ICT literacy levels of students. This study aimed at analyzing how ICT literacy levels vary according to students' skill sets from the viewpoint of educational convenience. To fulfill this goal, the ICT literacy abilities of 167 elementary students and 159 middle school students (all receiving education at "gifted students" education centers) were compared with the following results. First, elementary students displayed differences with regards to 'computer and network' and 'information society and ethics' among the content elements, and 'critical mind' and 'information communication' among capability elements according to their skill sets. Second, middle school students displayed differences with regards to 'information society and ethics' and 'information organization and creation' elements according to their skill sets. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it measured the ICT literacy levels of --and made suggestions for education to-- students specially gifted in information, science and mathematics rather than general students.

This study focused on the development of a simulation-based educational program for communication, targeted to prevent safety accidents of patients. Application of the program to nurses working in public medical institutions was assessed to identify the effects of the program in terms of communication skill, self-efficacy, critical thinking disposition, and problem solving ability of nurses, before and after completion of the education. Method: A total of 32 nurses, working in hospitals designated as public medical institutions, were selected as subject participants in the present study. Data were collected during the period August 19 to 20, 2019, and analyzed by SPSS 23.0. Results: Results obtained from the present study reveals significant efficacy of the educational program, in respect of improved communication skill, self-efficacy, and problem-solving ability. On completion of the educational program, we observed an increase in the critical thinking disposition of nurses, although it was statistically insignificant. Conclusions: We believe that the educational program developed in the present study can be exploited as a foundation for developing other programs intending to improve the communication skill of nurses employed in clinics of public medical institutions, targeted to prevent occurrence of safety accidents of patients.

The purpose of this study was to understand the factors affecting the academic resilience in nursing students. This study involved 280 second year nursing students. Data were collected from March 4 to 8 in 2013. Data were analyzed with frequency, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, person's correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression with using SPSS version 20.0. The score of academic resilience, problem solving abilities and communication skill in nursing students were 3.67, 3.53 and 3.50 respectively. The results showed that the higher problem solving abilities and communication skills, the higher academic resilience. The factors that significantly affected academic resilience were plan/practice, analytic ability, goal creation ability, cause analysis and performance/assessment accounting for 50.7% of the regression model. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the description of nursing students' academic resilience factors to develop effective education program.

This paper describes an implementation of project-based learning in routing design course. The total students who enrolled in the class were 48 and were divided into groups of 3~4 students. At the beginning of the course, a survey was conducted to check the student's level of back ground knowledge acquired from the prerequisite courses. At the end of the curse, we also conducted a survey to evaluate the effect of project-based learning. According to the end of course survey, the course was helpful to identify the problems to solve by themselves, to develop the problem solving ability, and to understand the global picture of the subject by integrating knowledge of each chapter into a project. The survey also shows that students recognized the importance of the teamwork skill throughout the project activity.

Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the effects of health science majors' communication skills on their adjustment to college life. Methods : The subjects were 336 college students majoring in health science at colleges located in Busan. The survey's questionnaire comprised 38 items, including 15 items for communication skills and 19 items for adjustment to college life. Results : In the gender-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, female students had better communication skills, with overall higher scores than male students for the understanding others and communication. In the age-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, students aged 21 to 22 showed the best communication skills, while students aged 18 to 20 exhibited the least communication skills. In terms of adjustment to college life, those aged 25 or older scored the highest, and those aged 21 to 22 scored the lowest. In the school-year-based comparison of communication skills and adjustment to college life, third- and first-year students showed the best and least communication skills, respectively. Overall, third- and fourth-year students were more adjusted at adjusting to college life than first- and second-year students. Third-year students also scored the highest in academic adjustment, whereas second-year students scored the lowest. In terms of relationships between the students' communication skills and their adjustment to college life, communication skills were positively correlated with the following subdomains: understanding of others, self-expression, and communication. Communication skills also showed a positive correlation with adjustment to the college environment, including personal-emotional adjustment. Conclusions : The present study found that communication skills did not significantly affect health science majors' adjustment to college life. However, given that communication skills are an essential factor for effective work performance and greater job satisfaction, it is recommended that colleges provide students with relevant education and experiences to help them enhance communication skills while in school.
The purpose of this study was to find out job description and necessary abilities for Consumer Affairs Department Service in business. This study was done using survey by mail to the representatives in Consumer Affairs Department in business. 354 representatives were used for the sample. The business was selected 32 among 107 in OCAP(Organization of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business), from September 25 to October 5, 2000. The results were analyzed from 96 representatives, 23 business. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The degree of importance and participation on the job description in Customer Service Department was analyzed. The most important job was related to consulting. Consumer management and information collect & provision were next important job in consumer affairs. 2. When the degree of participation on the job description compared to the degree of importance, we found that the general level of participation on the job was a little lower than the degree of importance on the job. Especially, the biggest difference was found in the formation of focusing customer. The smallest difference was found in the field of consulting. 3. The most necessary ability for the representative of consumer affairs department in business was responsibility and sincerity, communication skill. The big difference of present ability and necessary ability of representative was persuasive power and communication skirt.

For this study, we developed and applied the integrated nursing practice program preceded role-play related to clinical communication situation to 115 nursing students and compared their communication ability, clinical competence and problem solving process scores between before and after the program. Integrated nursing practice program is composed of 6 role-play scenarios related to clinical communication situation, 3 role-play scenarios related to clinical situation and 3 core nursing skill practices. This program was conducted 4 hours a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected using self-report questionnaire before and after the program from March to June, 2013 and analyzed using descriptive analysis and t-test with SPSS/WIN 19.0. There were significant increase in communication ability, clinical competence and problem solving process scores after the program. These results indicate that this program is effective nursing practice education method. Therefore, this program would be used for other students.
