  • The liver progenitor cells could form a potential target cell population fore both tumor-initiating and -promoting chemicals. Induction of drug-metabolizing and antioxidant enzymes, including AhR-dependent CYP1A1, NQO-1 and AKR1C9, was detected in the rat liver epithelial WB-F344 "stem-like" cells. Additionally, WB-F344 cells express a functional, wild-type form of p53 protein, a biomarker of genotoxic events, and connexin 43, a basic structural unit of gap junctions forming an important type of intercellular communication. In this cellular model, two complementary assays have been established for detection of the modes of action associated with tumor promotion: inhibition of gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) and proliferative activity in confluent cells. We found that the PAHs and PCBs, which are AhR agonists, released WB-F344 cells from contact inhibition, increasing both DNA synthesis and cell numbers. Genotoxic effects of some PAHs that lead to apoptosis and cell cycle delay might interfere with the proliferative activity of PAHs. Contrary to that, the nongenotoxic low-molecular-weight PAHs and non-dioxin-like PCB congeners, abundant in the environment, did not significantly affect cell cycle and cell proliferation; however both groups of compounds inhibited GJIC in WB-F344 cells. The release from contact inhibiton by a mechanism that possibly involves the AhR activation, inhibition of GJIC and genotoxic events induced by environmental contaminants are three important modes of action that could play an important role in carcinogenic effects of toxic compounds. The relative potencies to inhibit GJIC, to induce AhR-mediated activity, and to release cells from contact inhibition were determined for a large series of PAHs and PCBs and their metabolites. In vitro bioassays based on detection of events on cellular level (deregulation of GJIC and/or proliferation) or determination of receptor-mediated activities in both ?$stem-like^{\circ}{\times}$ and hepatocyte-like liver cellular models are valuable tools for detection of modes of action of polyaromatic hydrocarbons. They may serve, together with concentration data, as a first step in their risk assessment.

  • This paper focuses on developing a first-person 3D game to provide extreme fear to players through realistic camera direction utilizing the features of action cameras. As a new camera production technique, we introduce perspective distortion using a wide-angle lens and camera shake when moving to provide higher immersion than existing games. The theme of the game is horror room escape, and the player starts with a firearm, but in order to overcome the concern that the game's difficulty is low due to the use of firearms, the player is asked to control the use of firearms by imposing burdens such as chasing monsters and reducing the number of magazines. The significance of this paper is that we developed a new type of 3D game that maximizes the fear effect of players through realistic production.

  • The government utilizes communication to share messages within the internal environment and society. The People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) employs the Parliamentary Bulletin for this purpose, recognizing its effectiveness in fostering positive community relations. This study tries to elucidate the text's tactical maneuvers for reshaping political players' public personas in Parliamentary Bulletins and dismantling societal structures in speeches. This study examines the DPR's communication techniques in Parliamentary Bulletins using Teun A. Van Dijk's theory, which describes deliberate activities that weaken social institutions and influence political actors' opinions. The study investigates Puan Maharani's persistent presence on page three using Van Dijk's analysis from the 1200-1210 edition and qualitative approaches. In reality, 575 DPR RI members from 9 factions in 80 electoral districts can be sources of information. These findings show that media texts strategically portray political figures in the public sphere, influencing perceptions based on Berlo's image theory and Habermas' communicative ratio. Puan dominates the display of titles, profile introductions, and news stories. The discourse's social structure is divided into three levels: macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. This study focuses on the relationship between media representation, deliberative democracy, and public access to comprehensive information.

  • The objectives of this study were to discuss policy for university restructuring from the viewpoint of Habermas' theory of communicative action in Covergence Society, and to provide implications for university restructuring policy in Korea. This study was conducted as a literature review, it discussed the university restructuring policy in Korea, the meaning of Habermas' theory of communicative action, and its implications for university restructuring policy. The main concept of Habermas' theory of communicative action is mutual understanding, and the theory perceives society as systems and lifeworld. Lifeworld pursues communicative rationality. University restructuring in Korea should be promoted through communication between the government and university members rather than through the forced distribution of money by state power.

  • Convolutional neural network (CNN) generally uses two-stream architecture RGB and optical flow stream for its action recognition function. RGB frames stream display appearance and optical flow stream interprets its action. However, the standard method of using optical flow is costly in its computational time and latency associated with increased action recognition. The purpose of the study was to evaluate a novel way to create a two sub-networks in neural networks. The optical flow sub-network was assigned as a teacher and the RGB frames as a student. In the training stage, the optical flow sub-network extracts features through the teacher sub-network and transmits the information to student sub-network for baseline training. In the test stage, only student sub-network was operational with decreased in latency without computing optical flow. Experimental results shows that our network fed only by RGB stream gets a competitive accuracy of 54.5% on HMDB51, which is 1.5 times better than that on R3D-18.

  • Safety-critical systems related to the railway communications are currently undergoing changes. Mechanical and electro-mechanical devices are being replaced by programmable electronics that are often controlled remotely via communication networks. Therefore designers and operators now not only have to contend with component failures and user errors, but also with the possibility that malicious entities are seeking to disrupt the services provided by theirs systems. Recognizing the safety-critical nature of the types of communications required in train control operations, the communications infrastructure will be required to meet a number of safety requirements such as system faults, user errors and the robustness in the presence of malicious attackers who are willing to take determined action to interfere in the correct operation of a system. In this paper, we proposed the safety strategies employed in the railway communications and a security mechanism for Korean railway communication system. Also, we presented the developed means for validation and determination of communication safety based on the proposed security mechanism in the railway system.

  • Brands have begun to act without giving in to the challenges facing our society. Just like the slogan in the novel "The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas proclaimed, "All for one, one for all!" in the age of transmedia the success of brand activism must reflect the same principle. Specifically, by embracing the big as well as the little stories of consumers scattered everywhere, each and every one should create a huge resonance. This means that brands should use the cultural lever of transmedia so that the various stories of consumers do not fade into oblivion and, furthermore, expand the brand's call to action. By analyzing brand activism cases in business, this study explores the effectiveness of brand activism for advertisers to develop a better understanding of brand communication strategy. Building on findings that show new young generation consumers to favor brands that respond to social, political, and environmental issues and conceptual implications of the snowball effect, this study emphasizes consumer participation in the brand story creation process and the need for brands to aim for high standards of professionalism and accountability, so that they can grow together with their consumers.

  • The use of human actions as context for object class recognition is quite effective in enhancing the recognition performance despite the large variation in the appearance of objects. We propose an efficient method that integrates human action information into object class recognition using a Bayesian appraoch based on a simple probabilistic graph model. The experiment shows that by using human actions ac context information we can improve the performance of the object calss recognition from 8% to 28%.
