  • Moderately diverse, but very abundant trace fossils are found from the Late Pleistocene deposits of Jeju Island, Korea. Vertical I-, Y- and U-shaped domichnia of annelids or decapods are, over 2500, extremely abundant, 3D network domichnia of callianassids are, over 200, very abundant, and small sinuous trails of nematode repichnia are, over 50, abundant in number. Horizontal trails attributable to polychaete or worm-like animals are, less than 50, common, but horizontal spreiten burrows, fish traces and crab trackways are, less than 10, rare in occurrence. Of these trace fossils, Taenidium barretti, Undichna britannica and Undichna unisulca represent the first record from the Pleistocene in Asia. Psilonichnus upsilon is the second record in Asia. Crab trackways probably produced by underwater punting gait of sideway walking crabs may represent the first record in the world. In addition, diverse and very abundant footprints of more than 500 hominids, more than 200 birds and more than 1000 mammals are closely associated with these invertebrate trace fossils. Trace fossil assemblage integrated with sedimentary facies is interpreted to have been formed in the marginal marine foreshore to backshore environment corresponding to the Psilonichnus and Skolithos ichnofacies.

  • Air mass recirculation is a common characteristic in the coastal area as a result of the land-sea breeze circulation. This study simulates the recirculation of air mass over the Gwangyang Bay using WRF-FLEXPART and offers a basic information about the effective domain size that can reflect recirculation. For this purpose, WRF is set up four nested domains and three cases are selected. Subsequently FLEXPART is operated on the basis of WRF output. During the clear summer days with weak wind speed, particles that emitted from Yeosu national industrial complex and Gwangyang iron works flow into emission sources because of the land-sea breeze. When land-sea breeze is strengthen, the recirculation phenomena appears clearly. However particles aren't recirculated under weak synoptic condition. Also plume trajectory is analyzed and as a consequence, the smallest domain area have to be multiplied by 1.3 to understand recirculated dispersion pattern of particles.

  • Recently, substations have been constructed in GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) and indoor type because of the increasing difficulties of securing locations. In case of urban substations, it is also common that the substations are exclusively fed by underground cables. Sometimes, the infrastructures in urban area, such as communication facilities, are located near substations to be constructed. In this paper, we examined such a case that a branch office building of KT(Korea Telecom) was located near 154 kV underground GIS substation under construction with about 100 meters of the lateral distance between two facilities. GPR (Ground Potential Rise) at the substation and the transferred earth potential at the KT building through the earth in SLG (Single-Line-to- Ground) fault condition were investigated based on a series of computer simulations. The calculated earth potential at a distance of 100 m from the substation was below 120 V which satisfying the limit value of 650 V.

  • Nitrogen pollution in urban and rural groundwater is a common problem and poses a major threat to drinking water supplies based on groundwater. In this work, the kinetics of nitrification-denitrification coupled reactions are modeled and new reaction modules for the RT3D code (Clement, 1997) describing the fate and transport nitrogen species, dissolved oxygen, dissolved organic carbon, and biomass are developed. The proposed nitrogen transformations and transport model showed very good match with results of a conceptual model. However, the model simulation results for the major reactive species should be tested for validation using experimental and field data.

  • Indentifying anomaly correlations between data sets is the basis for rationalizig geopotential interpretation and theory. A procedure is presented that constitutes an effective process for identifying correlative features between the two or more geopotential data sets. Anomaly features that show direct, inverse, or no correlations between the data may be separated by applying filters in the frequency domains of the data sets. The correlation filter passes or rejects wavenumbers between co-registered data sets based on the correlation coefficient between common wavenumbers as given by the cosine of their phase difference. This study includes an example of Magsat magnetic anomaly profile that illustrates the usefulness of the procedure for extracting correlative features between the data sets.

  • Designed transformer-less inverter for photovoltaic and small unit windturbine power system. This system consisted of boost chopper circuit of multiple-switching method and foil bridge PWM inverter. Transformer-less system was adapted to reduce cost and size. But in this system, earth-leakage current have to be considered. So, to solve this problem, we used PWM inverter switching method to reduce the earth-leakage current which flows in accordance with the variation of DC input common mode voltage.

  • The reinforced concrete blocks for reinforced earth layer are combined with soil structures consisted of facing unit, reinforcing materials and soil. Those environmentally friendly facing units of reinforced concrete blocks are made of mine waste and tailing and that will be played a role of the effects of recycling use of wasted resources. The block are consisted of three types as curved or straight in order to control topography. The systems are also not limited to wall hight so that they are effectively used for protecting the slope of banking and cutting of earth works. The reinforced concrete blocks developed this time will be effectively applied for not only retaining wall, road, park, golf course, public office building constructions but also protecting of slope stabilization projects.

  • Culture is way of life. And a culture is based on the view of nature and humun being. Korea has many kinds of tradition. Out of them, Korean character Hangul, food and medicine have been succeeded as they were in old days. So I tried to induce Korean view of nature and human being from those traditions. The common principle induced from them is Yin-yang and five elements. Yin-yang and five elements is away to cognize nature by Korean people. That means Yin-yang is thought to be the principle of nature. Nature is what life is born or produced. And mankind is a part of nature. Thus Yin-yang and five elements works on mankind in the same way as they do on nature. Mankind is born and grows on the earth. So human body consists of four, parts of the earth, which are light, air, water and soil. It is essential for human being to maintain balance and harmony in nature with nature and as nature.

  • Electron injection improvement in OLED organic layers can be obtained by their doping or using alkaline-earth or alkali metals as electron injection layers (EIL). Common handling problems can be solved by an innovative metal dispensing technology to ensure controlled and reliable metal layers for OLED. Thickness and deposition rate of EIL during the process have been explored to optimize device performances.

  • In the FMAS system the effect of iron on alumina solubility in orthopyroxene has been determined by experiments with crystalline starting mixtures of garnet and orthopyroxene of known initial compositions at 20 kb, 975$^{\circ}C$ and 25 kb, 1,200$^{\circ}C$. These data have been modeled to develop a thermodynamic method for the calculation of Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ in orthopyroxene as a function of P, T and composition. The direct application of the alumina solubility data in the MAS system to natural assemblages could lead to significant overestimation of pressure, probably by about 5kb for the relatively common garnet-lherzolites with abot 25 mol per cent Ca + Fe$^{2+}$ in garnet and about 1 wt. per cent Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ in orthopyroxene since the effect of Fe is similar to that of Ca and Cr$^{3+}$in reducing the alumina solubility in orthopyroxene in equilibrum with garnet relative to that in the MAS system.
