  • Once, the faster the digital technology developed, the more provocative obscure commercial film has spread like a trend. Researching the aspect of the successful films, about 10 million audience in 2016, we can find the similarities that only social phenomenon, stands itself without real-existence, which makes public sentiment. I will list up all the problems that I mention above with audience's review and analyze the famous film "the wailing" with big social attention, having 6.8 million audience. I will seek the better way to developthis movie, in terms of artistic dignity and depth as an public-art. With great depth, the realistic application of cultural inheritance, holding mankind common, such as culture, philosophy, religion, history, would be an essential proposition for obtaining cultural emotional empathy from the people in the society. Based on this, the theme and massage from a director, should be expressed in order to be a master piece work beyond time and space in the film history.

  • This study investigates a comprehensive context between the vertical integration and concentration of Korean film market. The concentration of distribution and screening markets are result of industrial strategy to defend demand uncertainty and to pursue economies of scale. Major distributors are increasingly inclined to defend industrial risk by concentrating resources on blockbusters and bargaining power of the multiplex is getting strengthened by distribution competition to secure as many screens as possible. Vertically integrated multiplexes operate discriminatory preferential treatment to their affiliates, however, there is a difference in degree of discrimination between vertically integrated groups. Furthermore, it is difficult to exclude each other from the distribution competition in which the largest screen number has to be secured. It is difficult for multiplex only to pursue the interests of affiliates and make negative choices in screening performance. As the number of screening screens increases, the seat occupancy also increases. As a result, the polarization of the distribution and screening markets, including the screen monopoly, is a phenomenon that occurs commercial films centered markets and the unfair behavior of the vertically affiliated multiplex has a limited effect on the movie market.

  • Feminism on the theme of gender equality is emerging as an important issue in the overall Korean culture. Feminism is not only a level of claiming or advocating women's rights, but an essential subject of gaze and thought, not a distorted, artificially portrayed image of women distorted or typified in a story created by men in the past It is a film that explores the problem of the individual's life in society fundamentally. Jun Koeun's movie' 'micro-habitat'(2018) 'expresses a feminist theme that shows a strong self - selection and transcendental thinking in male - oriented stereotypes and inequal social structure. The film, which focuses on the public insight into society and the enhancement of the ideal human being from the viewpoint that the public film should lead the educated enlightenment character that raises the broad insight into the world and lead the mature social culture, I think it will play a big role.

  • This paper presents a model that supports decision-makers in the Korean film industry to maximize the success of online movies. To achieve this, we collected historical box office movies and clustered them into types to propose a model predicting each type's online box office performance. We considered various features to identify factors contributing to movie success and reduced feature dimensionality for computational efficiency. We systematically classified the movies into types and predicted each type's online box office performance while analyzing the contributing factors. We used automated machine learning (AutoML) techniques to automatically propose and select machine learning algorithms optimized for the problem, allowing for easy experimentation and selection of multiple algorithms. This approach is expected to provide a foundation for informed decision-making and contribute to better performance in the film industry.

On the (Un-)Possibility of a Labor Film in the Early Period of Democratization -A Study of Guro Arirang (민주화 초기 노동자 영화의 (불)가능성 -<구로아리랑> 연구)

  • Park Jong-won's debut film "Guro Arirang," based on a short story of the same title by Lee Moon-yeol, is the first commercial film to deal with labor struggles from a worker's point of view in the wake of the 1987 democratic movement, and a pioneering work in terms of representing female workers the Korean cinema has traditionally turned away from. In this film Park Jong-won tried to win the sympathy of the middle class for labor movement in spite of the red scare which still stood firm in the Korean society at that time. To convey its progressive message in a form acceptable to the middle class public, the film portrays labor issues in the light of universal humanity and ethics, not in terms of class hostility or struggle. Park Jong-won calls this point of view "common sense of normal people" and emphasizes its universality and objectivity. This study critically examines the cinematic strategies to deal with labor issues in a form acceptable to the public in a conventional and commercial film and the ideological implications of the "common sense of normal people" reflected in such strategies. The first chapter of the study reveals that the film destroys the irony of the original story and reduces the complex constellation of the characters to the conflict between pure good and evil, creating a melodramatic composition in which the good falls victim to evil. The tragedies suffered by the workers in the film are of course intended to arouse the audience's strong sympathy and solidarity with them. The second chapter shows that the film's various scenes and episodes converge on the them of compassion and grief, and are mostly based on cultural and real experiences and events that caused great public sensations at that time. Especially in the last decisive scene of the movie, the memory of the June 1987 uprising is strongly recalled. So "Guro Arirang" can be seen as a patchwork of proven cases of compassion and grief. The third chapter examines the implications of the scene where the workers turn back demands for wages and put the issues of human treatment and trust to the forefront at the crucial moment of their struggle. It appeals to universal moral values and sentiments that everyone has to acknowledge and removes the political dimension from the workers' campaign. While the film tends to become a pure story of humanity marginalizing irreconcilable conflicts of class interest, the workers fall to the position of passive victims who can be deeply sympathetic on the one hand, and on the other, are idealized as leaders with noble attitude keeping themselves aloof from the hard reality. As a result, the movie loses its realistic ground and weakens its narrative probability. The scenes reminiscent of the 1987 uprising which evoke the solidarity between working and middle class fail to integrate harmoniously into the whole story of the film and remain only as fragmentary parts of the patchwork of compassion and grief.

  • Through the comparative analysisand inductive research on main creation styles of Chinese, American and Japanese animation films, a conclusion can be given out, which means that the animation film style of each country can hardly be formed without their own traditional painting art, aesthetics habits and ways of thinking. It is these characteristics that form their unique animation film style. America emphasizes realism art, development and utilization of new technology, Japan pays sepcial attention totraditional painting art and comic stories. In business aspect, they bring about different business models relying on the experience of satisfying the diverse needs of domestic and global entertainment markets. When it comes to the content field, they carry forward universal values and meet the individualistic heroismso that a variety of business animation films and art animation films find their ways into the global market and acquire great popularity among audiences from all over the world. Through the comparasion of American and Japanese animation films, a new view to analyze the animation films of China is created. Animation creation is largely based on the need of socialist ideology from 50s to 80s. Even though the purposes of animation film creations returned to satisfying the diverse requirements of commercial markets and audiences, the consequences, such as the break gap of creations and talents, the lack of diverse creative styles and commercial market operation mechanism, sitll affect China's animation films today. Japan found thier position from the American model and became successful. Nowadays, China need find our own creative style and position from American model and Japanese model. And the systematic reformings that are detailed in the government managements, industry standards, internationalized talents cultivation and accumulation are the essential point.

  • The ways of expression are infinite to make animated film. When we compare to live action film, that fact is the actual power that animation only has and is one of the big weapons to appeal to the audience. Nonetheless, techniques to be chosen are monolithic like drawing, 3D computer, and clay when animation maker makes feature animation to screen in movie theatre. It's probably because feature animation must have popularity of visual style and they need to standardize technique about side of making. But popularity in expression does not mean monolithic visual style and making technique. It should be understood about side of artistic value to fascinate public audience. Audience is always eager for new subject, new directing style and new visual style. Monotonous and boring animation cannot but turn away from the audience. So if production does not have artistic value, we cannot expect commercial value and success also even it plans and makes for the feature animation. To create new visual style fnr animation is not only limited to artwork itself but also creation, which is included story and tone of the film and acting style about character. Also making process must be calculated and experimented to actualize that visual style about side of making.

  • Since various smart devices are being developed, a growing number of people are reading eBooks instead of paper books. However, people started making eBooks on their own by scanning paper books because there are not enough eBooks provided from market. The term "Bookscan" was made with this reason. The number of bookscan company is increasing because the equipment is too expensive. However, the commercial activity of bookscan company is against copyright law. Also bookscan files are in danger of being illegally distributed on web, because bookscan companies are not protecting copyright. Publication market follows the same procedure with sound market which was collapsed due to copyright problem. Therefore, the technical methods should be prepared for law system against bookscan. The previous ICOP(Illegal Copyrights Obstruction Program) system has been applied to sound and movie files, but not applied to publication. This paper suggests the framework for bookscan file management based on practical mechanism.

Film and the Politics of Post-memory in Chile's No and Korea's The Attorney (칠레의 와 한국의 <변호인>, 영화와 포스트메모리의 정치)

  • 'Post-memory' is the act of remembering traumatic events in history by subsequent generations who have not had direct experiences or relations with them. For this reason, the narratives of 'post-memory' are considered as re-interpretations of the past deeply influenced by current perspectives and concerns. The Chilean film NO goes back to the Referendum of 1988 in order to examine the "NO campaign" which was opposed to another eight years of continuation of the Pinochet regime. Although this campaign contributed significantly to the Chilean democratization, the filmmaker does not just celebrate it: rather he attempts to cast a critical reflection on its strategies that eventually turned democracy into a "commodity" by deploying commercial language and marketing tools for characterizing and describing it. On the other hand, the Korean movie The Attorney sheds light on the story of an attorney who, during the military regime in the 1980's, became a human rights lawyer when he tried to advocate for university students accused of violating national security law. This film reconstitutes the meaning of democracy built upon the logic of "common-sense" that privileges freedom and fundamental human rights over Statism. Despite the different historical contexts between Chile and South Korea, these two movies retell the history of a dictatorship that ended a couple of decades ago. In doing so, they raise questions about history, memory and democracy in order to deepen the understanding of current social and political circumstances while placing an emphasis on the roles and responsibilities of intellectuals during the transition to democracy and democratic consolidation.

  • Barrage is an interactive method based on video, and the video itself is visualized from the viewer's point of view to play people's emotions, and it already has an advantage in communication by attracting people's attention using stories and plays. Advances in digital and mobile technology have enabled video viewing anytime, anywhere. Due to the nature of the barrage site that relies on the same video content or playback to participate in video sharing through computers or mobile clients, a barrage that can express users' feelings and thoughts will be added, breaking down the limit of content acceptance by a single user. Barrage satisfy users' entertainment needs, and their influence is growing. Gradually, they are heading to offline movie theaters and TV from barrage videos on the Internet. Attempts to function as offline ammunition facilitated technological innovation for media convergence by converging mobile media with PCs and screens. At the same time, the trend of media convergence shown by coal screens is also a trend of overall technological development. A barrage is an extension of human communication skills. The properties of the barrage fit well with the need for experiential marketing (via video). It can provide a visual experience and create an atmosphere of "surrounding and watching" and eliminate loneliness. Barrage itself provides a function to comment on videos, which is a trigger point for the reason, and donation adds to the amount of information in the video, adding to the fun of the video. Through the barrage, sarcastic, teasing, and expressing emotions can bring entertainment experiences, and users can produce and communicate their shooting text while consuming the satisfaction brought by the shooting. At the same time, Barrage attaches great importance to the needs of the masses, is more individual and diversified, and has commercial significance in line with the current development trend of the Internet. As a new interactive method, barrage contains huge potential value. However, the impact of the interactive way of barrage should also be viewed from a dialectical point of view, how to solve the difficulties in the development of barrage. The way to solve the difficulties in the development of barrage is worth studying. This research will analyze the reasons for the development of barrage and the analysis of Chinese barrage websites, the case analysis of barrage videos, the exploration of the characteristics and values of barrage, and the problems in the process of barrage communication.
