  • In this paper, we discuss CITIS(Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service) as the information infrastructure of CALS. CITIS is a contractor-developed and maintained service to provide electronic access and/or delivery of Government-procured contractually required information. As the concept of CALS is expanded government acquisition process into industry business, the CITIS is also expanded military CITIS into commercial CITIS. First, we describe CITIS services and functions defined by MIL-STD-974, and then specify the difference of military CITIS and commercial CITIS. The problem of current CITIS for inter-operable business process is indicated, and legal issues for sharing of CITIS data are also discussed.

  • In this paper, we discuss about the implementation of CITIS(Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service) which is information infrastructure for CALS. CALS concept is introduced by DoD(Department of Defense, US) to exchange technical data of product's life cycle electronically. This CALS concept is accepted by commercial industrial area and considered as a part of global concept of Electronic Commerce. CITIS- a service defined by MIL-STD-974- is about to be implemented by commercial industrial society, too. But, until now there is a few sites implementing CITIS and especially in Korea. In this paper, we discuss characteristics of some CALS/CITIS implementation and solutions, and introduce ETRI-CITIS.

  • We followed the below procedure to establish the development strategy of CITIS standard. At first, we investigated Military CITIS and Commercial CITIS to establish the concept of CITIS and examined several implemented examples. And using the previous analysis, We analyzed the structure of the functions, the technologies and the standards. To establish the development strategy of CITIS standard, we divided CITIS standards into three category, These are infrastrucure standard, data standard and process standard. In the process standard, we analyzed how we develop a formulated process and which item we select to make formulated official documents. And finally, We explained the implementation plan and extension strategy of government-enterprise and inter-enterprise CITIS respectively.

  • CITIS(Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service) is a service standard which specifies guidelines which are required for the fulfillment of a contract between a purchaser and a supplier. It was initiated as a military standard and is now becoming a commercial standard. In this paper, we propose how the guidelines, which were usually developed by Client/Server methods in previous works, can be implemented in WWW environments, and show a prototype which can be used for the confirmation of CAD drawings between contractors(purchaser and provider). We have a hope our study can provide a small foundation for the building of CITIS references.
