  • Nanopowders of Mo, Ti and Si were made by high-energy ball milling. A dense nanostructured $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ compound was sintered by the pulsed current activated combustion method within two minutes from mechanically activated powder of Mo, Ti and Si. A highly dense $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ compound was produced under simultaneous application of 80 MPa pressure and a pulsed current. The mechanical properties and micorostructure were investigated. The hardness and fracture toughness of the $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ were $1030kg/mm^2$ and $4.9MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively. The mechanical properties were higher than monolithic $TiSi_2$.

  • This study was performed to understand combustion properties four major Indonesian wood species such as Albizia, Gmelina, Mangium and Mindi were investigated by cone-calorimeter for better utilization of theses wood species. Heat release rate (HRR), total heat release (TSR), specific mass loss rate (SMLR), effective heat of combustion (EHC), time to ignition (TTI), flame time (FT), specific extinction area (SEA), smoke production rate (SPR) and CO compound production rate were measured. HRR, THR and FT were proportional to the density of woods. Albizia showed the highest HRR, while Mindi had the lowest HRR. For SPR, Albizia showed the highest value due to its higher SEA. On the other hand, Mindi had the lowest SPR due to a lower SEA value. The highest smoke emission was for Albizia at the beginning of combustion. After 300 seconds, smoke emission of Gmleina and Mangium was increased greatly. Mangium and Mindi showed the highest total carbon dioxide emission. Expecially, Gmelina released the highest carbon monoxide during the combustion period and presented three times higher $CO/CO_2$ ratio than those of other species due to incomplete combustion.

  • This study was conducted on the properties of exhaust emissions of diesel oil and fish oil blended with diesel oils using a direct injection diesel engine at different loads, and on the conditions of carbon deposits of diesel oil and 40% blend oil in the combustion chamber after 20 hours operation at $\frac{1]{2}$ load. The properties of exhaust emissions by fish oil blended with diesel oils showed no significant difference with diesel oil. However, soot emissions decreased, increasing the ratio of fish oil. Carbon deposits by fish oil blended with diesel oils were high level compared with diesel oil, which might be overcome by preheating of fuel oil and operating conditions.

  • $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ sol was fabricated using sol-gel method and $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ thin films were fabricated using dip-coating method. $V_2O_5$ sol was added 0.01mo1e, 0.03mo1e, 0.05mo1e into $TiO_2$ sol. Viscosity of sol increased fast from about 1,000 minutes and sol began gelation from about 10,000 minutes. As a results of crystalline properties, $V_2O_5$ peaks were not found despite of $V_2O_5$ addition. Endothermic reaction occurred due to evaporation of solvent and dissociation of OH at $80^{\circ}C$. Exothermic reaction occurred due to combustion and oxidation of solvent at $230^{\circ}C$, occurred to combustion and oxidation of alkyl group at $350^{\circ}C$. Thickness of thin films increased $0.1{\sim}0.25{\mu}m$ every a dipping.

  • A pressure-based, unstructured finite volume method has been applied to couple the chemical kinetics and fluid dynamics and to capture effectively and accurately the steep gradient flame field. The pressure-velocity coupling is handled by two methodologies including the pressure-correction algorithm and the projection scheme. A stiff, operator-split projection scheme for the detailed nonequilibrium chemistry has been employed to treat the stiff reaction source terms. The conservative form of the governing equations are integrated over a cell-centered control volume with collocated storage for all transport variables. Computations using detailed chemistry and variable transport properties were performed for two laminar reacting flows: a counterflow hydrogen-air diffusion flame and a lifted methane-air triple flame. Numerical results favorably agree with measurements in terms of the detailed flame structure.

  • We had investigated combustion properties of rice bran dusts. Decomposition of rice bran dusts with temperature were investigated using DSC and the weight loss according to temperature using TGA in order to find the thermal hazard of rice bran dusts, and the properties of dust explosion in variation of their dust with the same particle size. Using Hartman's dust explosion apparatus which estimate dust explosion by electric ignition after making dust disperse by compressed air, dust explosion experiments have been conducted by varying concentration and size of rice bran dust.According to the results for thermodynamic stability of rice bran dust, there are little change of initiation temperature of heat generation and heating value for used particle size. But initiation temperature of heat generation decreased with high heating rate whereas decomposition heat increased with particle size. Average maximum explosion pressure was $10kgf/cm^2$ for 60/70 mesh and $1.5mg/cm^2$ dust concentration.

  • The combustion properties of sandwich panels were tested according to ISO 13784-1(Room Corner Test for Sandwich panel building systems) method to supplement ISO 9705 Room corner test, and analyzed comparatively. Several variables including heat release rate, smoke production rate, FIGRA, SMOGRA, thermal configuration, visual check lists and so on, were analyzed for four materials on sandwich panel systems. Finally, Fire performances of test results on each material by ISO 13784-1 are categorized by applying to the classification system of both EN 13501-1 and Eurefic research program

  • In order to evaluate the fire and explosion involved and to ensure the safe and optimized operation of chemical processes, it is necessary to know combustion properties. Explosion limit is one of the major combustion properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. In this study, the explosion limits of alcohols were predicted by using the normal boiling points and the flash points based on a solution theory. The values calculated by the proposed equations agreed with literature data within a few percent. From the given results, using the proposed methodology; it is Possible to Predict the explosion limits of the other flammable substances.

  • In this paper, synthesize MoO3 particles with various particle properties by control growth influence factors was mainly studied. The experimental conditions were established in molar ratio of Mo:urea and pH levels. The plate-type of MoO3 particles were formed without proceeding any established conditions, but the rod-shape particles were formed by adjusting molar ratio of Mo:urea. Also, different ranges of the particle size were formed by adjusting experimental conditions. Through the results, it was confirmed that particles with a size in the range of 300 ~ 400 nm were obtained by adjusting precursor concentration and the micrometer size of particles were formed by increase pH levels. The properties of the particles formed accordingly by setting various factors that can affect the growth process of MoO3 particle was analyzed as variables and the particle growth behavior was also observed.

  • Wood has an essential drawback such as high combustion ability. The purpose of this paper is to examine the combustion properties of the quercus variabilis and zelkova serrata dried at room temperature. The cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1) was used to determine the heat release rate (HRR) and fire smoke index, as well as CO/$CO_2$ production and smoke obscuration. The total heat release (THR), $140.2\;MJ/m^2$ of the quercus variabilis under an external $50\;kW/m^2$ was high in comparison with THR $85.7\;MJ/m^2$ for the zelkova serrata. Furthermore, the quercus variabilis has high total smoke production (TSP), $3.50\;m^2$ compared with TSP $0.65\;m^2$ of zelkova serrata. Thease results depend on the bulk density of tested wood species. In addition, the CO/$CO_2$ production ratio of zelkova serrata and quercus variabilis was measured as 0.053, 0.043, respectively. Also, zelkova serrata showed an increase of fire-resistance attributed to char formation compared with that of quercus variabilis.
