Purpose: This study examined the effectiveness of action observation training (AOT) and mirror therapy in improving the electroencephalograms (EEG) of stroke patients. Methods: Patients were allocated randomly to three groups: an action observation training with activity (AOTA) group (n=12), a mirror therapy with activity (MTA) group (n=11), and an AOT-only group (n=12). All groups received conventional physiotherapy in five 60-minute sessions over six weeks. The AOTA, MTA, and AOT groups practiced AOTA, MTA, and AOT, respectively, in three 30-minute sessions over six weeks. The differences between the pre- and post-treatment EEGs were assessed using a paired t-test. Comparisons between the groups were performed using one-way ANOVA. Results: The participants in the AOTA and MTA groups showed significant improvement in the EEG. AOTA improved the alpha waves of the prefrontal, temporal, and parietal lobes significantly (p<0.05). MTA improved the alpha waves of the temporal lobe significantly (p<0.05). AOT did not result in significant improvement Conclusion: AOTA and MTA improve stroke patients' EEGs. Mirror neuron activation combined with conventional stroke physiotherapy promotes motor recovery and functioning. The effect is enhanced when the actions are executed after observation. Further research into mirror neuron activation will be needed to develop methods to improve the EEGs of stroke patients.
This study was carried out to observe the effect of testosterone on carbonic anhydrase inhibiting action of acetazolamide. Carbonic anhydrase activities in the kidneys of mice were measured by Philpot and Philpot method(1936) at 30, 90 and 150 minutes after intravenous administration of saline(0.5 ml/10 g) or acetazolamide (0.25 mg/10 g) in mice pretreated with testosterone (0.1 mg/10 g). The changes in volume and pH of urine as well as those in urinary electrolytes, such as $Na^+,\;K^+\;and\;Cl^-$ were measured at 15 minutes interval for 150 minutes in the rabbit pretreated with double administrations of testosterone(10 mg/kg), 1 hour and 18 hours, prior to the administration of acetazolamide (10 mg/kg). The results were as follows: 1. Carbonic anhydrase activities in the kidneys of mice of testosterone-pretreated groups were significantly higher than those of acetazolamide-treated group at 30 minutes. No significant changes of carbonic anhydrase activities were observed in testosterone-pretreated groups compared with saline-treated groups. 2. Combined administrations of acetazolamide and testosterone exhibited higher carbonic anhydrase activity than those group of acetazolamide alone in the kidney of mice through observed period of 150 minutes. 3. There were no significant changes in the excretion rate of urine and urinary electrolytes in the group of rabbits with testosterone administerone alone. Urine volume as well as $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ excretion rates in the combined treated group of acetazolamide and testosterone were significantly lower than that of acetazolamide group throughout experimental period except 15 minutes after drug administration at the time transient increase was shown. 4. Generally lower $K^+$ excretion rate was observed in the combined treated group of acetazolamide and testosterone compared with the single acetazolamide-treated group and the testosterone-pretreated group shows lowest excretion rate of potassium.

Sunjeonhwadok-Tang was a drug that treated carbuncle and cellulitis. So, the purpose of this study was to investigate effects of Sunjeonhwadok-Tang on the proliferation of cancer calls and immunocytes focusing around combined effects of anticarcinogen. We used Sunjeonhwadok-Tang extract(SHT) with freeze-dried, 8wks-old male balb/c mice and cancer cell lines(L1210, Sarcoma-180) for this Study. The proliferation of cells was tested using a colorimetric tetrazoliun assay(MTT assay). The results : 1. SHT was significantly showed cytotoxicity on the L1210 cell lines. 2. SHT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in vitro. 3. In combined effects of SHT and vincristine(0.005 mg/kg), SHT was significantly inhibited proliferation of L1210 cell lines, but was not inhibited proliferation of Sarcoma-180 cell lines compared with positive control group. 4. In combined effects of SHT and vincristine(0.005 mg/kg), SHT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes compared with positive control group. 5. In combined effects of SHT and vincristine, SHT was significantly increased proliferation of thymocytes and splenocytes in normal mice. 6. In combined effects of SHT and vincristine, SHT was significantly inhibited proliferation of L1210 cells in L1210 cells transplanted mice 7. In combined effects of SHT and vincristine, SHT was significantly increased proliferation of L1210 cell in L1210 cells transplanted mice. The present author thought that SHT had action of anti-cancer and immuno-activity, and in combined effects of vincristine, SHT had recoverable effects on damage by anticarcinogen.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are persistent and commonly detected in marine ecosystem. They coexist with a various contaminants including heavy metals in real environment, but most studies have been still focused on single effects of these contaminants to aquatic organisms. In this study, the single and combined effects of benzy[a]pyrene (B[a]P) and HgCl2 were investigated in the brackish water flea, Diaphanosoma celebensis. For combined effect study, three mixtures A (3:7), B (5:5), and C (7:3) of benzy[a]pyrene (B[a]P) and HgCl2 were determined by 48 h - LC50 values of single exposure. Combined effects of both chemicals were estimated by concentration addition (CA) model and independent action (IA) model. As results, 48 h - LC50 values of benzy[a]pyrene (B[a]P) and HgCl2 was 25.75 ㎍ l-1 and 3.6 ㎍ l-1, respectively. TU values of mixture A, B, and C were 1.06, 0.83, and 0.96, respectively, indicating additive effects of mixtures using CA model. This study will be helpful as basic data for understanding the combined effects of contaminants in marine environment.

In this paper, human action recognition using pyramid histograms of oriented gradients and collaborative multi-task learning is proposed. First, we accumulate global activities and construct motion history image (MHI) for both RGB and depth channels respectively to encode the dynamics of one action in different modalities, and then different action descriptors are extracted from depth and RGB MHI to represent global textual and structural characteristics of these actions. Specially, average value in hierarchical block, GIST and pyramid histograms of oriented gradients descriptors are employed to represent human motion. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method, we evaluate them by KNN, SVM with linear and RBF kernels, SRC and CRC models on DHA dataset, the well-known dataset for human action recognition. Large scale experimental results show our descriptors are robust, stable and efficient, and outperform the state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we investigate the performance of our descriptors further by combining these descriptors on DHA dataset, and observe that the performances of combined descriptors are much better than just using only sole descriptor. With multimodal features, we also propose a collaborative multi-task learning method for model learning and inference based on transfer learning theory. The main contributions lie in four aspects: 1) the proposed encoding the scheme can filter the stationary part of human body and reduce noise interference; 2) different kind of features and models are assessed, and the neighbor gradients information and pyramid layers are very helpful for representing these actions; 3) The proposed model can fuse the features from different modalities regardless of the sensor types, the ranges of the value, and the dimensions of different features; 4) The latent common knowledge among different modalities can be discovered by transfer learning to boost the performance.
Purpose: Previous studies have reported that action observation training has beneficial effects on enhancing the motor task, such as balance and gait functions. On the other hand, there have been few studies combined with action observation training and auditory feedback. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of action observation training with auditory feedback on the gait function in stroke patients with hemiparesis Methods: A total of 24 inpatients with post-stroke hemiparesis were assigned randomly to either an experimental group 1 (EG 1, n=8), experiment group 2 (EG 2, n=8), control group (CG, n=8, EG 1). The EG 2 and CG watched video clip demonstrating three functional walking tasks with auditory feedback, without auditory feedback, and showing a landscape image, respectively. The exercise program consisted of 30 minutes, five times a week, for four weeks. The participants were measured to 10MWT (10 m walk test), 6MWT (6 minutes walking distance test), TUG (timed up and go test), DGI (dynamic gait index), time and steps of F8WT (figure-of-8 walk test). Results: In the intra-group comparison after the intervention, EG 1 and EG 2 showed a significantly different gait function (10MWT, 6MWT, DGI, TUG, F8WT) (p<0.05). In the inter-group comparison after intervention, EG 1 showed significant improvements in the entire gait parameters and EG 2 only showed significant improvement in DGI and TUG compared to CG (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings show that action observation training with auditory feedback may be used beneficially for improving the gait function of stroke patients with hemiparesis.
A model has been proposed that can predict the ultimate torsional strength of single-box multi-cell reinforced concrete box girder under combined loading of bending, shear and torsion. Compared with the single-cell box girder, this model takes the influence of inner webs on the distribution of shear flow into account. According to the softening truss theory and thin walled tube theory, a failure criterion is presented and a ultimate torsional strength calculating procedure is established for single-box multi-cell reinforced concrete box girder under combined actions, which considers the effect of tensile stress among the concrete cracks, Mohr stress compatibility and the softened constitutive law of concrete. In this paper the computer program is also compiled to speed up the calculation. The model has been validated by comparing the predicted and experimental members loaded under torsion combined with different ratios of bending and shear. The theoretical torsional strength was in good agreement with the experimental results.
Due to the underground openings, the tangentially concentrated stress of the tunnel remains larger at excavation boundary and decreases toward the interior of the surrounding rock with a certain gradient. In order to study the effect of different gradient stress on rockburst, the true-triaxial gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined test apparatus were carried out to simulate the rockburst processes. Under the different gradient stress conditions, the rock-like specimen (gypsum) was tested independently through three principal stress directions loading--fast unloading of single surface--top gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined loading, which systematically analyzed the macro-mesoscopic damage phenomena, force characteristics and acoustic emission (AE) signals of the specimen during rockburst. The experimental results indicated that the rockburst test under the gradient and hydraulic-pneumatic combined loading conditions could perfectly reflect the rockburst processes and their stress characteristics; Relatively high stress loading could cause specimen failure, but could not determine its mode. The rockburst under the action of gradient stress suggested that the failure mode of specimen mainly depended on the stress gradient. When the stress gradient was lower, progressive and static spalling failure occured and the rockburst grades were relatively slight. On the other hand, shear fractures occurred in rockbursts accounted for increasingly large proportion as the stress gradient increased and the rockburst occurred more intensely and suddenly, the progressive failure process became unconspicuous, and the rockburst grades were moderate or even stronger.
In this study, the numerical analysis model of π-beam explosion is established to compare and analyze the failure modes of the π-beam under the action of explosive loads, thus verifying the accuracy of the numerical model. Then, based on the numerical analysis of different protection forms of π beams under explosive loads, the peak pressure of π beam under different protection conditions, the law of structural energy consumption, the damage pattern of the π beam after protection, and the protection efficiency of different protective layers was studied. The testing results indicate that the pressure peak of π beam is relatively small under the combined protection of steel plate and aluminum foam, and the peak value of pressure decays quickly along the beam longitudinal. Besides, as the longitudinal distance increases, the pressure peak attenuates most heavily on the roof's explosion-facing surface. Meanwhile, the combined protective layer has a strong energy consumption capacity, the energy consumed accounts for 90% of the three parts of the π beam (concrete, steel, and protective layer). The damaged area of π beam is relatively small under the combined protection of steel plate and aluminum foam. We also calculate the protection efficiency of π beams under different protection conditions using the maximum spalling area of concrete. The results show that the protective efficiency of the combined protective layer is 45%, demonstrating a relatively good protective ability.
Durability is a major concern in the design and construction of concrete structures which are located in the sea environments. In particular, the combined action of chlorides, sulfates, and carbonation nay influence greatly the deterioration behavior of concrete structures. The purpose of the present study is to explore the diffusion characteristics of chloride ions in concrete structures under combined deterioration conditions. The present test results indicate that the chloride penetration into concrete structures is more pronounced under combined attacks of chlorides, sulfates and carbonation. The diffusion coefficients and surface chloride contents were found to increase under combined multiple deterioration conditions. The present study provides quantitatively the penetration and diffusion characteristics of chloride ions in concrete structures under various deterioration conditions. The results of present study may be efficiently used for the realistic design of concrete structures under combined deterioration conditions.
