  • The combined effect of radiation and ultrasound has been studied in mouse embryos. Radiation and/or ultrasound were adminstered to ICR mice on day 8 of gestation. Intrauterine death, gross malformation, and fetal body weight were selected as indicators of effects. Does of whole-body ${\gamma}-irradiation$ were 0.5 to 2.5 Gy and those of ultrasound were $0.5\;W/cm^2$ to $3\;W/cm^2$. Intrautrine mortality increased with increasing radiation dose ; this trend was more remarkable in combination with ultrasound. Gross malformations such as exencephaly and anophthalmia/microphthalmia appeared frequently in the fetuses treated with both radiation and ultrasound. Decreased fetal weight was observed even in mice treated with 1.5 Gy of radiation or $1\;W/cm^2$ of ultrasound. There was a linear relationship between dose and reduction of fetal weight. The fetal weight was sensitive, precise and easy-to-handle indicator for the effects of growth retardation. Intrauterine mortality and frequencies of exencephaly and anophthalmia/microphthalmia were higher than the sum of those induced by radiation and by ultrasound. The results indicatied that the combined action of radiation and ultrasound on intrauterine death and malformations was synergistic.

  • A numerical simulation of the temperature rise for sliding surface in dry contact is based on Jaeger's formula combined with a calculated heat input. A gear tooth temperature analysis was performed. The pressure distribution has the Hertzian pressure distribution on the heat source. The heat partition factor is calculated along line of action. A Temperature distribution of tooth surface is calculated about before and after profile modification. A Temperature of addendum and deddendum in modified gear have reduced.

  • Three high strength reinforced concrete structural walls were tested under the combined action of a constant axial and a horizontal cycle load. The aim of the tests has been to investigate the effects of the web horizontal reinforcement on hysteretic behavior of wall. The results have helped to identify the causes of wall failure and have demonstrated the web horizontal reinforcement does not appear have a significant effect on shear capacity, stiffness and energy dissipation but have a significant effect on the failure mode of the walls.

  • Vehicle rollover is an important issue for the traffic safety. Rollover can occur from the driver's action, the vehicle characteristics, or the road condition. This study is about the rollover propensity analysis of a jeep vehicle using the steering and braking maneuver, which is the combined result by the driver and the vehicle. Simple equations of roll motion is used to analyze the roll motion and a special purpose vehicle dynamics program is used to simulate the rollover of the jeep vehicle. From the simulation, an incipient rollover motion of the vehicle was found. However, the more complete rollover propensity analysis would require further investigation using roll dynamic sensitivity study.

  • Individual effect of genes controlling quantitative traits can not ordinarily be distinguised from one another. Consequently, it is not possible to determine the mode of inheritance for single genes. By studying their combined effectsin segregating generations, however, one can gain some insight into their behavior and can make statistical inferences about their average gene action. The investigation reported herein was to extend genetic variance components and variance and covariance analyses, special attention was given to the genetic statistics from which least square estimators of genetic parameters are obtained.

  • Antacid(AM, 600 mg/kg=aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone with a ratio of 1 : 1 : 0.1) and aceglutamide aluminium(AGA, 263 mg/kg)-Effect of the combined preparation containing on the gastric mucosal hexosamine, sialic acid, and aluminium contents adhered to the gastric wall of the rat was investigated. Severe ulcers were produced in rats by injecting of $30\;{\mu}l$ acetic acid(30%) into the subserosal layer of one position in the corpus. When given orally for 15 consecutive days, AM(1,200 mg/kg), AGA(525, 1,050 mg/kg), and the combined preparation significantly decreased the ulcer area. AGA(525, 1,050 mg/kg) and the combined preparation also increased the amount of hexosamine and sialic acid in the intact and ulcerated areas. On the other hand, the contents of hexosamine and sialic acid were not affected by AM (600, 1,200 mg/kg). The amount of aluminium adhered to the gastric wall of the rat was higher in the combined preparation when compared to the AM(600 mg/kg) and AGA(263 mg/kg). The aluminium contents adhered may play an important role protecting mucosa from aggresive action of gastric juice and potenting defensive factors through the increase of mucosa-forming components by AGA.

  • In order to prove the antitumor effect of Taraxaci Herba experimentally, studies were done. The antitumor effect against hepatic cancers such as Hep G2. Hep 3B & PLC and also the synergstric action was evaluated in the combined treatment with anticancer drugs using chiefly for liver cancer. such as. The results were obtained as follows: 1.$IC_{50}$ against Hep G2. Hep 3B and PLC was $15.5{\mu}g/ml.\;25.4{\mu}g/ml,\;31.25{\mu}g/ml$ in Mitomycin C(MMC), $92.5{mu}g/ml,\;50.2{\mu}g/ml,\;62.5{\mu}g/ml $in cisplatin(CPT) and 125 in 5-flurouracil(5-FU) respectively. 2. In cytotoxic effect against Hep G2 every fractions showed the anti tumor effect as compared with the data of control but EE fraction of Taraxaci Herba was most effective and also hexane fraction was most effective in the combined treatment with anticancer drugs. 3. In cytotoxic effect against Hep 3B every fractions showed the antitumor effect as compared with the data of control but EE fraction of Taraxaci Herba was most effective and also hexane fraction was most effective in the combined treatment with anticancer drugs. 4. In cytotoxic effect against PLC every fractions showed the anti tumor effect in the concentrations of $10^{-5}g/ml$ above as compared with the data of control and also the combined treatment with MMC was most effective. 5. Fractions of Taraxaci Herba showed the most antitumor effect against Hep 3B and also the combined treatment with MMC was most effective. From the above result it was concluded that ethyl ether fraction of Taraxaci Herba was most effective fraction, every fraction showed more antitumor effect against Hep 3B and Hep G2 than PLC.

  • An algorithm to automatically extract coordinate and time information from optical observation data of geostationary orbit satellites (GEO satellites) or geosynchronous orbit satellites (GOS satellites) is developed. The optical wide-field patrol system is capable of automatic observation using a pre-arranged schedule. Therefore, if this type of automatic analysis algorithm is available, daily unmanned monitoring of GEO satellites can be possible. For data acquisition for development, the COMS1 satellite was observed with 1-s exposure time and 1-m interval. The images were grouped and processed in terms of "action", and each action was composed of six or nine successive images. First, a reference image with the best quality in one action was selected. Next, the rest of the images in the action were geometrically transformed to fit in the horizontal coordinate system (expressed in azimuthal angle and elevation) of the reference image. Then, these images were median-combined to retain only the possible non-moving GEO candidates. By reverting the coordinate transformation of the positions of these GEO satellite candidates, the final coordinates could be calculated.
