As the adoption of injection molding technology increases, injected-molded optical products require higher dimensional accuracy and optical stability than ever before. In the present study, four kinds of molding methods, i.e., conventional injection molding (CIM), injection/compression molding (ICM), rapid heat and cooling the mold(RHCM) and rapid injection/compression molding (RICM) were selected in order to investigate the optical anisotropy of a 7 inch Light Guide Plate(LGP) by examining the gap-wise distribution of birefringence and the extinction angle. The results indicate that the compression process can decrease flow-induced birefringence over the whole region and that rapid heating can decrease the birefringence level better than conventional molding. In addition, for the combination of compression and rapid heating a reversal flow was detected from the distribution of the extinction angle near the gate.
The influence of mastication of natural rubber (NR) on properties of carbon black-filled NR compounds was studied. Variations of viscosities of the masticated NR and the carbon black-filled NR compound by heating were also investigated. The viscosities of the compounds decreased by increasing the mastication time of the raw rubber. The viscosities of the masticated NR and the compounds increased by increasing the heating time. This was explained by the combination reaction between functional groups in the rubber. The viscosity increment of the masticated rubber and the compounds by heating became larger with increased mastication time. Cure rate of the compound became faster by increasing the mastication time. Modulus of the vulcanizate made of the rubber masticated for a long time was higher than that of the vulcanizate made of the rubber masticated for a short time while elongation at break of the former was shorter than that of the latter. This was explained by the content of bound rubber and chain length of the rubber molecules.
Heating and cooling performance has been analyzed for the water-source heat pump system using raw water from Daechung reservoir. During heating operation from March to May, water temperature is not good condition for a heat source due to the higher atmospheric temperature. Avearged heating load ratio is only 14.3%, and the averaged unit COP and system COP are estimated to be 2.46 and 2.15 respectively. The COP is affected considerably by the water temperature, and the unit COP is increased from 2.16 at $5^{\circ}C$ to 2.95 at $11^{\circ}C$. Cooling performance is analyzed with the measured data from June to August. During cooling operation, raw water has lower temperature by 4. $5^{\circ}C{\sim}4.7^{\circ}C$ than the atmosphere. The load ratio is 39.2%, and the averaged unit COP and system COP are estimated to be 7.25 and 6.13 respectively. The heating COP is affected by the load ratio rather than water temperature. The COP is increased for 20%~40% load ratio, while is decreased for 40%~60% load ratio. It is estimated that the compressor operation combination for 3 (two constant speed and one inverter) compressors is changed for the load ratio.
This study aimed to examine whether heat curing methods of concrete subjected to $-10^{\circ}C$ could be effective by varying the combination of heating cable and surface heat insulations. Three different concrete specimens incorporating 30% fly ash with 50% W/B were fabricated to simulate wall, column and slab members with dimensions of $1600{\times}800{\times}200$ mm for slab, $800{\times}600{\times}200$ mm for wall and $800{\times}800{\times}800$ mm for column. For heat curing combinations, Type-1 specimens applied PE film for slab, plywood for wall and column curing. Type-2 specimens applied double layer bubble sheet (2LB) and heating coil for slab, and 50 mm styrofoam for wall and column curing. Type-3 specimen applied 2LB for slab, electrical heating mat for wall and column inside heating enclosure. The test results revealed that the temperature of Type 1 specimen dropped below $0^{\circ}C$ beginning at 48 hours after placement due to its poor heat insulating capability. Type 2 and 3 specimens maintained a temperature of around $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ after placement due to favorable heat insulating and thermal resistance.
Residual stress is one of the causes which make defects in engineering components and materials. Many methods have been developing to measure the residual stress. Though these methods provide the information of the residual stress, they also have disadvantage like a little damage, time consumption, etc. In this paper, we devised a new experimental technique to measure residual stress in materials with a combination of laser speckle pattern interferometry and spot heating. The speckle pattern interferometer measures in-plane deformation during the heat provides for much localized stress relief. 3-D shape is used for determining heat temperature and other parameters. The residual stresses are determined by the amount of strain that is measured subsequent to the heat and cool-down of the region being interrogated. A simple model is presented to provide a description of the method. In this paper, we could experimentally confirm that residual stress can be measured by using laser interferometry and spot heating method.

Residual stress is one of the causes which makes defects in engineering components and materials. These residual stresses can occur in many engineering structures and can sometimes lead to premature failures. There are commonly used methods by which residual stresses are currently measured. But these methods have a little damage and other problems; therefore, a new experimental technique has been devised to measure residual stress in materials with a combination of electronic laser interferometry, laser heating and finite element method. The electronic laser interferometer measures in-plane deformations while the laser heating and cooling provides for very localized stress relief. FEM is used for determining the heat temperature and other parameters. The residual stresses are determined by the amount of strain that is measured subsequent to the heat-up and cool-down of the region being interrogated. A simple model is presented to provide a description of the method. In this paper, the ambiguity problem for the fringe patterns has solved by a phase shifting method.
This study has been purposed to provide thermal comfort range in accordance with the residential style of radiant floor heating space, and to compare it with the thermal comfort range at predicted mean vote. The survey for the thermal sensation vote to the subjects and the measurement of environmental factors has been executed, and regression analysis has been performed. It is interpreted that the combination of the physical factor and the psychological factor results lower neutral point of the floor sitting style than that of the chair sitting style. There are some difference between the measured predicted mean vote and the thermal sensation vote via survey, which appears to be caused by distinctive heat transfer characteristic of floor radiant heating space, such as, high radiant temperature and contact thermal sensation of floor surface.
This study proposes a $CO_2$ emission reduction method through correlation analysis of a sample building. First, energy saving factors of heating, cooling, lighting were determined for the correlation analysis and $CO_2$ emission contribution rate of the design parameters have been analyzed. Then optimal combination of each design parameter has been drawn. Heat transfer coefficient of walls and windows, air permeability, windows area ratio, and shading devices were selected as applicable energy saving factors of the sample building. Also computer simulation was conducted using experimental design by Orthogonal Arrays of the statistical method. And the contribution rate was estimated by Analysis of Variance-ANOVA. As a result, the $CO_2$ emission in heating was reduced to 51.9%; in cooling to 16.8%; and in lighting to 2% compared to the existing building. The majority of the reduction was presented by heating energy.
For the combination of MRI and magnetic particle hyperthermia(MPH), we investigated the relative heating efficiency with respect to the strength of the static magnetic field under which the magnetic nanoparticles are to be heated by RF magnetic field. We performed nanoparticle heating experiments at the fringe field of 3T MRI magnet with applying the RF magnetic field perpendicularly to the static magnetic field. The static field strengths were 0T, 0.1T, 0.2T, and 0.3T. To prevent the coil heat from conducting to the nanoparticle suspension, we cooled the heating solenoid coil with temperature-controlled water with applying heat insulators between the solenoid coil and the nanoparticle container. We observed significant decrease of heat generation, up to 6% at 0.3T(100% at 0T), due to the magnetic saturation of the nanoparticles of 15 nm diameter under the static field. We think MPH is still feasible at low magnetic field lower than 0.3T if stronger RF magnetic field generation is permitted.
Geothermal heat pump(GHP) systems have been shown to be an environmentally-friendly, efficient alternative to traditional cooling and heating systems in both residential and commercial applications. Although some experimental work related to performance evaluation of GHP systems with vertical borehole ground heat exchangers for commercial buildings has been done, relatively little has been reported on the performance simulation of these systems. The aim of this study is to evaluate the cooling and heating performance of the GHP system with 30 borehole ground heat exchangers applied to an commercial building($1,210m^2$) in Seoul. For this purpose, a typical design procedure was involved with a combination of design parameters such as building loads, heat pump capacity, circulating pump, borehole diameter, and ground effective thermal properties, etc. The cooling and heating performance prediction of the system was conducted with different prediction methods and then each result is compared.
