  • Cooperative diversity is an effective technique to combat multi-path fading. When this technique is applied to energy-constrained wireless sensor networks, it is a key issue to design appropriate relay selection and power allocation strategies. In this paper, we proposed a new multi-relay selection and power allocation algorithm to maximize network lifetime. The algorithm are composed of two relay selection stages, where the channel condition and residual power of each node were considered in multi-relay selection and the power is fairly allocated proportional to the residual power, satisfies the required SNR at destination and minimizes the total transmit power. In this paper, proposed algorithm is based on AF (amplify and forward) model. We evaluated the proposed algorithm by using extensive simulation and simulation results show that proposed algorithm obtains much longer network lifetime than the conventional algorithm.

  • Artillery fire power due to effectiveness which is hard to predict well-planned and surprising attack can give a fear and shock to the personnel and is a very core weapon system and takes a critical role in wartime. Therefore in order to maximize operational effectiveness, Army required protecting artillery and takes a quick attack action through rapid construction of artillery's positions. The artillery use artillery's position to prevent exposure by moving to other position frequently. They have to move and construct at new artillery's positions quickly against exposing existed place by foe's recognition. These positions should be built by not manpower but engineering construction equipment. Because artillery positions have to protect human and artillery equipment well and build quickly. Military engineering battalion have lots of construction equipment which include excavator, loader, dozer, combat multi-purposed excavator, armored combat earthmover dump truck and so on. So they have to decide to optimal number of Team combining these equipments and determine construction sequence of artillery's position in operational plan. In this research, we propose to decide number of Team efficiently and allocate required construction's positions for each Team under constraints of limited equipments and time. To do so, we develop efficient heuristic method which can give near optimal solution and be applied to various situation including commander's intention, artillery position's priority or grouping etc. This heuristic can support quick and flexible construction plan of artillery positions not only for using various composition's equipment to organize Teams but also for changing quantity of positions.

  • In this paper, we propose a system that can identify the position of naval ship personnel at a glance by utilizing the Bluetooth-based beacons. The system proposed in this paper, installs a beacon receiver which are short-range wireless communication devices for each cabin, and in the installed beacon receiver receives information from beacons held by personnel. The received information is transmitted to the processing server, and the processing server transmits the integrated information of the cabin to the display module. Display module displays personnel information located in each cabin. As a result of simulations using the designed system, it was confirmed that the integrated information is transferred to the display module and displayed. Unlike existing situations where personnel positions are reported orally within the ship, the system can quickly and in real time determine the position of personnel, allowing for the management of personnel in non-combat situations and the rapid battle disposition in combat situations. This is expected to contribute greatly to the improvement of fighting power.

  • The Ministry of National Defense aims to create an environment in which transparent and reasonable defense policies can be implemented in real time by establishing the vision of smart defense innovation based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and promoting innovation in technology-based defense operation systems. Artificial intelligence (AI) based defense technology is at the level of basic research worldwide, includes no domestic tasks, and involves classified military operation data and command control/decision information. Further, it is needed to secure independent technologies specialized for our military. In the army, military power continues to decline due to aging and declining population. In addition, it is expected that there will be more than 500,000 units should be managed simultaneously, to recognize the battle situation in real time on the future battlefields. Such a complex battlefield, command decisions will be limited by the experience and expertise of individual commanders. Accordingly, the study of AI core technologies supporting real-time combat command is actively pursued at home and abroad. It is necessary to strengthen future defense capabilities by identifying potential threats that commanders are likely to miss, improving the viability of the combat system, ensuring smart commanders always win conflicts and providing reasonable AI digital staff based on data science. This paper describes the recent research trends in AI military staff technology supporting commander decision-making, broken down into five key areas.

  • The dronebot combat system is a representative model of the future battlefield in the 4th industrial revolution. In dronebot, unmanned reconnaissance tankrobot can minimize human damage and reduce cost with higher combat power than humans. However, since the battlefield environment is very complex such as obstacles and enemy situations, it is also necessary for the pilot to control the tankrobot. Tankrobot are robots with new ICT technology, capable of hacking attacks, and if there is an abnormality in control, it can pose a threat to manipulation and control. A Bluetooth sniffing attack was performed on the communication section of the tankrobot and the controller to introduce a vulnerability to Bluetooth, and a countermeasure using MAC address exposure prevention and communication section encryption was proposed as a security measure. This paper first presented the vulnerability of tankrobot to be operated in future military operations, and will be the basic data that can be used for defense dronebot units.

  • Amidst the ongoing instability and military tensions between North and South Korea, it is essential for us to comprehend and assess North Korea's military capabilities, while preparing for potential contingencies through military reinforcement. However, to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the military balance on the Korean Peninsula, it is imperative to move beyond simplistic quantitative comparisons of combat capabilities and embrace a broader perspective, which includes qualitative comparisons of military strength, operational capabilities, and a nation's ability to wage war. To address this need, this study employs the method of "Net Assessment" to evaluate the relative combat power of South and North Korean conventional naval forces, with a particular focus on surface combatants. This evaluation involves both quantitative and qualitative comparisons of military assets (personnel and equipment) and intangible factors (naval strategies, geography, etc.). By conducting a holistic assessment, the research aims to identify and analyze strategic asymmetries that may exist between the two navies.

  • In recent, the communication networks of wind power farm are becoming crucial technologies for monitoring and controlling the large-scale offshore wind power farm. In this paper, EPON based communication network architectures are proposed in order to combat the problems of conventional Ethernet based communication network such as delay, data processing overhead and the fairness of data transmission among turbines in offshore wind power farm. The proposed architecture constructs the point to multi-point network by using OLT and ONUs installed in central control center and wind turbines respectively. The EPON based communication network architecture has low cost, high reliability, and fair transmission capability. To evaluate the performance of proposed architectures, the wind power farm based on IEC 61850 is modelled by using OPNET The simulation results are analyzed and compared with conventional Ethernet based communication network in terms of the overhead, delay and fairness of data transmission.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new approach to the minimum energy routing (MER) for next generation (NG) multihop wireless networks. We remove the widely used assumption of deterministic, distance-based channel model is removed, and analyze the potentials of MER within the context of the realistic channel model, accounting for shadowing and fading. Rather than adopting the conventional unrealistic assumption of perfect power control in a distributed multihop environment, we propose to exploit inherent spatial diversity of mobile terminals (MT) in NG multihop networks and to combat fading using transmit diversity. We propose the cooperation among MTs, whereby couples of MTs cooperate with each other in order to transmit the signal using two MTs as two transmit antennas. We provide the analytical framework for the performance analysis of this scheme in terms of the feasibility and achievable transmit power reduction. Our simulation result indicate that significant gains can be achieved in terms of the reduction of total transmit power and extension of network lifetime. These gains are in the range of 20-100% for the total transmit power, and 25-90% for the network lifetime, depending on the desired error probability. We show that our analytical results provide excellent match with our simulation results. The messaging load generated by our scheme is moderate, and can be further optimized. Our approach opens the way to a new family of channel-aware routing schemes for multihopNG wireless networks in fading channels. It is particularly suitable for delivering multicast/ geocast services in these networks.

  • One of the missions of active-duty units in charge of managing reserve forces is providing combat supplies to reserve forces to exercise their combat capabilities quickly when declaring a mobilization order. Rear area active-duty units must support large local reserve forces. On the other hand, military units have difficulties due to a lack of forces and the storage of large quantities of firearms and ammunition. For this reason, local reserve forces should move to an integrated storing place and receive their firearms and ammunition. The existing distribution plan (existing plan) is a first-in-first-out plan that can produce inconsistent distribution orders. The inconsistent distribution orders can increase the complete distribution time, which will affect the combat power of local reserve forces. Therefore, firearms and ammunition should be distributed quickly. Accordingly, this paper proposes the priority selection of firearms and ammunition for local reserve forces with a minimum complete distribution time using Dynamic Programming. To verify the proposed model, the existing plan was compared with the proposed model using real data, and the result showed that the proposed model outperformed the existing plan.
