Recently, consumers' evaluation and purchase of online design has been increasing due to the popularization of designing through personal computers, but there has not been enough studies on consumers' brain wave responses depending on the change of PC monitor's color. Therefore, this study investigated how brain waves changed when different background colors with gray patterns were presented through PC monitors. Six background colors with same tone of slightly low saturation were selected, including ivory, yellow, pink, green, blue and pure white as a base color. The brightness and characteristics of color used were analyzed using the luminance meter and color scales. Brain wave was measured by EEG measurement equipment. Brain wave measurement was carried out with 9 subjects at 6 points: F3, F4, T3, T4, O1, and O2. Stimuli were shown for 15 seconds each and black screens were displayed for 15 seconds between each stimulus. As results, the brain waves at O1 responded sensitively by different background colors, followed by F4 and T4. Brain index such as 'RT', 'RA', 'RG', 'RSA', and 'RAHB' showed significant differences depending on the background color at O1, whereas 'RST' differed at F4. Yellow and blue backgrounds pair was the only stimuli that showed significant differences in six brain indices mentioned. Yellow background had higher value of 'RG' at O1 and higher 'RST' at F4, indicating yellow background enhanced concentration. Blue background activated 'RT', 'RA', 'RSA', 'RAHB' at O1, meaning blue background induced calm and stable state.

The purposes of the study were to analyse the colors and, color combinations effect on the image perception using gestalt theory. The research method was a quasi-experimental with a between subjects design. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a response scale. The stimuli was consisted of 17 drawings of females wearing Korean traditional dress, by using CAD simulation. A response scale consisted of semantic differential scales. The subjects were 1138 undergraduate students of Taejon city, Chungnam province and Chungbuk province. Their responses to the semantic differential scales were analyzed using factor analysis, ANOVA, Duncans multiple range test. Results were as follows; 1) The colors effect of blouse was significantly greater than the effect of skirt, and no interaction effect was found between blouse colors and skirt colors. 2) In bi-color combination dress set, the combined image of the two colors were compared to the image of the two mono color sets: No single principle was found, however, salient color (such as yellow) and unattractive color (such as green) seemed to act as central trait colors on the image perception. On conclusion the visual image of Korean traditional dress wearer was affected by central trait colors in bi-color combination, and this results support the gestalt theory with central traits.
The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of three clothing cues(jacket color, skirt color, and tone of dress) on female impressions. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales. The Stimuli are If color pictures manipulated with three clothing cues by drawing. The 7-point scale designed for visual evaluation of female impression formation includes 24 bipolar adjectives. The subjects were 192 undergraduate female students in Jinju city. The results of this study are as follow: As analyzing the impression of female figure by the jacket color, skirt color, and tone, three factors including youth${\cdot}$activity, attractiveness, and visibility were identified. Among these factors, youth${\cdot}$activity and attractiveness were proved to be more important. Some interaction effects of clothing cues were found. Jacket color and tone had significant effects on the impression of visibility. The combination of skirt color and tone had significant effects on youth${\cdot}$activity, attractiveness, and visibility.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of four clothing cues dot pattern size and ground field of color area ratio on dress's wearer image. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales(The 7-point semantic). The stimuli were 30 color pictures manipulated with the combination of dot pattern size, dot pattern on background of color area ratio and neutral dress's using computer simulation. The subjects were 180 female undergraduates living students in Gyeong-nam. The result of this study are as follows: Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 5 different components (visibility, gracefulness, attractiveness, cuteness, womanly). Especially, Neutral color combination independently influenced the every components. In regarding the effect of interaction between each variable, the combination of dot pattern on background of color area ratio, dot pattern size on the combination had cuteness, womanly.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the image dimension depending on the coloration of the Korean jacket of cromatic colors and the Korean skirt of acromatic color and to elucidate the image difference depending on the tone variation of the Korean jacket and the Korean skirt. The experimental materials used for this study were sets of stimulus and response scales(7 point semantic). The stimuli manipulated by computer simulation were 48 color pictures with various combinations of colors of jackets and skirts. The subjects were 576 female undergraduates living in Jinju city. This experiment was based on the $3{\times}4{\times}4$ factorial designs: jacket color(red, yellow and green), jacket tone(vivid, light, dull and dark), and skirt tone(N9, N7, N4 and N2). Image factor of the stimuli consisted of 4 different dimensions(youthfulness and activity, gracefulness, visibility and tenderness). Among them, the youthfulness and activity, and the gracefulness were important. According to the tone variation of Korean jacket of cromatic colors and Korean skirt of acromatic color, the images for a wearer were expressed diversely and showed the difference in image dimensions.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of makeup, clothing tone and clothing style on wearer's with same color coordination of lipstick and clothing. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimulus and response scales (7-point scale semantic). The stimuli were 64 color pictures were manipulated by computer simulation. This experiment design was $2{\times}2{\times}4{\times}4$ factorial design. The stimuli were a set of eyeshadow color(brown), clothing style (formal style of Jacket / skirt and casual style of cardigan / pants), lipstick and clothing color (red and orange), lipstick tone(vivid, light, dull and dark), clothing tone(vivid, light, dull and dark). The subjects of this research were 384 female undergraduates living in Gyeongsangnam-do. The investigation was carried out at a lecture hall at the time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in May 2006. The data were analyzed using SPSS program. Factor analysis, 4-way ANOVA, t-test, and Duncan test were used as analysis methods. Image factors according to variation of clothing style, clothing color, and makeup color are composed of 4 different dimensions (visibility, attractiveness, tenderness, and stability). In dimension of the visibility, the image was perceived to be glowing and luxurious regardless of lipstick tone and lipstick color in the case of the vivid tone clothing. According to the variation of clothing style, clothing color and tone, makeup color composed of eyeshadow color, lipstick color and tone, it was investigated that the images for a clothing wearer were expressed diversely, were shown differently in image dimensions, and could be produced to different images. The analysis data for images according to the combination of makeup and clothing color, tone, and style thus provide basic material for image consulting or color coordination.
To quantitatively analyze the effects of color stimulation which is one of the major affecting factors on human emotion, we studied the relationship between color preference and the Electroencephalography (EEG) to 3 color stimuli; bright yellow red (BYR), deep green yellow (DGY), and vivid blue (VB). Physiological signal measured by EEG on the color stimulation was closely related with their well-known colorful images. The brain become more activated with decreasing the color temperature (BYR${\geq}$DGY>VB), and the right brain is more sensitive than the left. On the whole, the EEG values of the frequency bands are in order to beta ${\geq}$ theta and alpha > gamma. As decreasing the color temperature, beta wave increased (BYR${\geq}$DGY>VB), and alpha, beta and gamma waves increased with increasing the color temperature (BYR${\geq}$DGY>VB). The relationship between the color preference and EEG values showed EEG gets more activated at some frequency bands when the color preference becomes higher. In conclusion, the specific frequency band could be activating by a color stimuli which had showed higher the preference. It means that these color stimuli can apply for various industries such as beauty industry, interior design, fashion design, color therapy, and etc.

The purpose of this study was to identify 1) the effect of two contexts (job interview, Informal outing) and clothing cues (type, style, color) on male impresssions 2) the effect of perceiver's age on male impressions created by the clothing cues and contexts. The subjects consisted of 256 male undergraduate students and 256 middle-aged men. The experimental materials developed for this study were a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli were 8 color photographs of drawings of a male figure in clothing which were manipulated in two levels, each of three clothing cues including type, style and color. The experimental design was full factorial design of $(2^4contex^2{\times}clothing type^2{times}clthing color^2$. Each of the 16 sub-samples includes 16 subjects from the two perceiver group. Questionnaires used to measure perceivers responses to the stimuli were 7-point semantic differential scales composed of 37 bipolar adjectives representing personal traits. The data was processed by factor analysis, ANOVA, multiple classification analysis, Duncan's multiple range test. The major findings drawn from this study were as follows: 1. Three factors emerged to account for the dimensional structure of the impressions of the male figure in clothing in two social situations. These factors involved evaluation, activity and uniqueness. 2. The contexts, clothing types and clothing styles had significant effects on evaluation, activity and uniqueness. The clothing styles had a considerable effect on both evaluation and uniqueness while the clothing types affected activity. The clothing color had least effect on the impression and had only moderate effect on evaluation. 3. Perceiver's age influenced impressions formed by the social contexts and clothing cues. Male college students were least affected by contexts and clothing cues, while middle-aged men wert affected most.

The purpose of this study was to Investigate men's clothing in regard to (1) the effect of wearer's age and clothing: rues on impression formation, and (2) the effect of perceiver's age on impressions formed by the wearer's age and the fuction of clothing cues. The experimental design of this study was between-subjects 24_full factorial design by 4 independent variables. The subjects consisted of 192 subjects in each of two male perceiver groups according to age(20s and 50s). The experimental moterials developed for the study were a set of stimuli al)d a response scale. The stimuli consisted of 16 color photographs made by identical manipulations of 4 independent variables consisting of 2 levels each. Each one of the sixteen sub-samples included 12 subjects from 2 perceiver groups. The independent variables provided by the photographs were (1) wearer's age (20s and 50s), (2) suit color (navy blue and beige),' (3) suit style (single breasted and double breasted), and (4) necktie color (analogous and complementary colors) . The 7-point semantic differential response scale which was designed to measure the impression of the stimuli was composed of 30 bipolar adjectives. The responses to the semantic differential scales were analyzed using factor analysis and ANOVA. The results were as follows:1) Wearer's age, suit color, suit style, and necktie color had significant effects on impression of the 3 factors (appearance·potency, individuality activity, and evaluation) partiafly. However, the suit style was the most dominent clothing cue : the single breasted suit conveyed positive impression of individuality' activity to both of the wearer's age groups than double breasted suit did on both of the perceiver's age groups. 2) Perceiver's age partially influenced impressions formed by the age and the clothing cues of men clothed in suits : the young perceiver's group was less affected by them than middle aged group.

The dimensional structure of impression formed of a female figure in specific attire was identified and significant influence of skirt length and suit color on impression formed of figures in suits were researched in the part I of this study. In part ll, the effect of identical elements of apparel design on impression formation of a female figure in dress and pants- blouse were studied. The experimental matirals consisted of two sets of stimuli and 7 point semantic differential response scale developed in part 1. Each set of stimuli was composed of 20 drawings representing female figures in each attire. Three independent variables, which were the length of bottom, color of dress or pants and collar type of blouse, were manipulated in each stimulus. The experiment was arranged by 3 factorial design, and the data were analyzed by 3-way ANOVA and by Multiple Classification Analysis. To summarize, in impression formation of figure in dress, the most dominant design element was identified as bottom length and the second most dominant one was color of dress. In contrast, in perception of figure in pants-blouse, the most important design element was color of pants and secondly important one was bottom length. The collar type of top didn't have critical effect on impression formation of figures in both type of attire.
