  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of uniform's color and motif on nurse's impression formation. The experimental design was 5×3×2(uniform color×motif ×perceiver's gender) factorial design with a between-subjects design. The experimental materials developed for the study were a set of stimuli and a response scale. The subjects were 738 undergraduate students of Daejon and Chungnam province. The SPSS package was used for data analysis which includes factor analysis, two-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, and Cronbach's α to measure the reliability. Results were as follows; The image or the stimulus was consisted of the 4 different dimensions(evaluation, sociability, ability, potency). All the independent variables showed some significant impression effects on selected dimensions. The motif and perceiver's gender also showed significant main effects as well as some interaction effects with the color variable on some selected impression dimension and the impression effects of the three variables in relationship to perceiving nurses' images. On a conclusion, these results supported the Gestalt theory.

  • We compared the degree of color difference formed by environmental factor(temperature, relative humidity) with fungal growth in order to know how to change the color difference of cellulolutic cultural properties such as Korean papers, cotton, jute and hemp. We concluded, from the result, that the action of fungal growth on celluloytic cultural properties was more hamful than environmental factor. We considered the secretion produced by fungi as the causative agent for stained formation on cellulolytic cultural properties. Alternaria sp. colored allmaterials greyish black, Chaetomium sp. colored cotton and hemp orange, and Penicllium sp. colored cotton, jute and hemp yellowish green. But Trichoderma sp. and Aspergillus sp. didn't show a clear color against each material. It was observed that thymol(120g/$m^3$) was the most effective fungicide to prevent fungal growth.

  • Though bottom emission AM-OLED has advantages in respect of mass production, the bottom emission type is underrated due to its low aperture ratio and low color gamut, compared with top emission type. In this paper, we demonstrate that the color gamut up to 89 % can be simply achieved by depositing dielectric multilayers, whose thicknesses are determined using an optical simulation program, prior to formation of Si layer.

  • In the present study, the electroless plating method was applied instead of the sputtering as a formation method of metallic bus electrodes. No additional blackening step is needed in this method since this process provides a metallic seed layer with black color by a single step. The parameters which affects color and morphology of the metallic seed layer in the electroless plating solution were investigated

  • The color interpolation scheme can play an important role in overcoming the physical limitation of the CCD image sensor and in increasing the resolution of color signals, while most conventional approaches result in blurred edges and false color artifacts. In this paper, we have proposed an improved edge-adaptive color interpolation scheme for a progressive scan CCD image sensor with RGB color filter array The edge indicator function proposed utilizes not only the within-channel correlation but also the cross-channel correlation, and reflects the edge characteristics of an image adaptively. The color components unavailable for at each channel are interpolated along the edge direction, not across the edges, so that aliasing artifacts are supressed. Furthermore, we eliminated false color artifacts resulting from the color image formation model in the edge-adaptive color interpolation scheme by adopting the switching algorithm based on the color edge detection. Simulation results of the proposed algorithm indicate that the improved edge-adaptive color interpolation scheme produces quantitatively better and visually more pleasing results than conventional approaches.

  • Metallicity distribution of globular clusters (GCs) provides an important clue for star formation history of their host galaxy. With an assumption that GCs are generally old, GC colors have been used as a proxy of GC metallicities. Bimodal GC color distributions observed in most large galaxies have, for decades, been interpreted as bimodal metallicity distributions, indicating the presence of two populations within a galaxy. However, the conventional view has been challenged by a new theory that non-linear GC color-metallicity relations (CMRs) can cause a bimodal color distribution even from a single-peaked metallicity distribution. Using the photometric and spectroscopic data of NGC 5128 GCs in combination with stellar population simulation models, we examine the effect of non-linearity in GC CMRs on the transformation of GC color distributions into metallicity distributions. Although, in some colors, offsets are present between observations and models in the CMRs, their overall shape agrees well for various colors. After the offsets are corrected, the observed spectroscopic metallicity distribution is well reproduced via modeled CMRs from various color distributions having different morphologies. On the other hand, the linearly converted metallicity distributions from GC colors show a significant discrepancy with the observed spectroscopic metallicity distribution. We discuss the implications of our results.

  • It has been suggested that merging plays an important role in the formation and the evolution of early-type galaxies. Optical-NIR color gradients of early-type galaxies in high density environments are found to be less steep than those in low density environment, hinting frequent merger activities in early-type galaxies in high density environment. In order to confirm if the flat color gradient is the result of dry merger, we decided to look deeply to find merging features and get their relation with color gradient. We selected samples which show extreme values of optical-NIR color gradients based on the data of previous study, and observed them at Maidanak observatory 1.5m telescope with long exposure. After masking out overlaid sources, our analysis reveals that these galaxies do not have extreme color gradient values. High degree sky flat technique was used during observation to aid discovery of faint, extended features. However, flatness of detector (SNUCAM) was good enough, so we could not see any marked improvement in image quality compared to those using normal sky flats. Additionally we noticed a feature that looks like merging tidal tail in the CFHT archival image, but this does not show up on the image we obtained. This demonstrates that flatness and correct sky estimation is very important when we look for faint merging features. In future we plan to enlarge the number of the sample.

  • Two dimensional flame temperature and KL value distribution from the luminous flame containing soot in a DI diesel engine were measured by the tow-color method using tow different wavelengths of the flame image. The combustion chamber of a DI diesel engine was visualized by elongating the piston and cylinder and the flame in the combustion chamber was photographed on a nega-color film using a high speed camera. In this study, color CCD camera was used to digitize the three color density of the film exposed to the flame and standard lamp . The accuracy of the measuring method depends on the calibration line of film made from a high temperature standard tungsten lamp. The formation and oxidization of soot in the diesel engine were studied by observing measured time history of KL factor and flame temperature . Also , effects of various shapes of combustion chamber and fuel injection on flame temperature. Also, effects of various shapes of combustion chamber and fuel injection on flame temperature and KL value distribution were examined.

  • This paper summarizes the recent progress made by our group at Seoul National University on studies of the evolution and formation of distant galaxies. Various research projects are currently underway, which include: (i) the number density of distant early-type galaxies (z < 1); (ii) the optical-NIR color gradient of nearby early-type galaxies; (iii) J - K-selected Extremely Red Objects (EROs) in field (CDF-S) and the cluster environment; and (iv) the Lyman-break galaxies in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) field. These works will constrain the mass evolution and the star formation history of galaxies in different environments, and the results will serve as useful contraints on galaxy formation models.

  • The characteristics of floc formation of the iron(Fe) ions was studied for developing the process treating the acid mine drainage. The metal ions in aqueous solution oxidized with oxygen in air, which generated hydrogen ion and lowered the pH of the aqueous solution. The iron(Fe) ions were formed into flocs by the acid-base reaction with the added $Ca(OH)_2$ for the neutralizing the solution. There were several variables affecting the formation, size and color of floc; whether air was present or not, air feeding rate, oxidizing time, concentration of $Ca(OH)_2$, the acid-base reaction time of the $iron(Fe)-Ca(OH)_2$. For proper formation of the $iron(Fe)-Ca(OH)_2$ flocs and developing the floc treating system, the control variables mentioned above should be considered.
