  • We must identify the forms of dress devised throughout ages, when we wtudy, interpret and analyze the numerous resource material of costume. The study which depends on reference to actual artifacts is necessarily limited. Whereas items of contemporary dress are readily available, much from earlier eras has been destroyed or has deteriorated through time. Such as cottons, linens, silks, wools, leathers and furs are perishable organic materials. Few garments dated earlier than seventeenth century has survived except armor, jewelry. We have many sources of the information are available to study on costume of earlier eras. These sources are wall paintings, sculptures, painting, monumental brasses, manuscript illustration ceramics, coins, medals, mosaics, archives, literature. Wall painting and frescoes provided an useful source for costume study. Many wall paintings and frescoes were destroyed, were changed in color. It si advisable to interpret the dress detail, form color carefully. Sculpture would be useful to see the back and side views of dress. One of the most important points which should be made abut the use of sculpture as a source for costume study in early periods is that the sculptor's style will often change the character of a costume. As the painting si two-dimensional evidence for a three-dimensional costume, paintings must be accurately studied. What we must do, as far as we can, is to look at all visual representations in the light of other contemporary evidence in order to interpret the information correctly.

  • This is a brief study on the influence of fumigation (using mixed gas of methyl bromide and ethylene oxide) on old paintings. Fumigation is principally used to prevent biological damage of objects. Thirteen objects, including old colored map from Chosǒn Dynasty and some paintings, were selected for this research. Before and after fumigation, color measurements were made and changes of pH value were measured. The result is that the fumigation did not affect on discoloration of colored area and acidity of paper, as far as the standard of application(such as concentration of gas, exposing time and ect.) of fumigation was kept.

  • We believe distinguishable product development to be competitive against foreign products, and realize the need to expand domestic business worldwide. In order to be competitive, we should produce fashion items that meets global taste, and at the same time contain exclusive Korean culture and emotional beauty. This article examines and creates unique textile design with the touch of Korean art. Desigus have been proceeded under the following three themes: 'Strong Ego,' 'Gorgeous Days' and 'Song Eternal Seeking Love' using Primavision Computer-aided Design ("CAD"). We have put our interestes in Korean traditional paintings called Hangukhwa. Suitable design motives had been selected and modified from the four gracious plants (bamboos, peonies etc.), and paintings of birds and flowers. Primavision, a CAD software, had been used to manipulate those desigus, and to add instant changes in color, scale, and layout. We had modified Korean traditional motives to make modem image, and had arranged layouts which can be suitable for half-drop repeat and square repeat. The use of color is essential in pattern design. Thus, we explored coloring ways for each design to meet the trends, and the final mapping had been conducted in western style of dresses. We have tried to mix Korean image of textile designs with Western clothing style, expressing hybrid in the mapping process. With global movements, we need to develop products with Korean traditional exotic taste to attract foreign consumers. Therefore, we selected symbolic motives from Korean paintings to express deep spiritual significance. We developed textile design and processed mapping on selected western designer's dress, employing current trend colors and making crossover coordination. We realized Korean painting would be an excellent source for exclusive fabric design, and tried to create a modernized design which maintains Korean ethnical identities.

The purpose of the genre paintings is to look at general populations in an objective point of view and endeavor better value of public life style to embody clear understandings of humanity. The artists such as Hong-Do Kim and Youn-Bok Shin expressed their arts based on reasonable reality with sarcastic but humorous and creative ways to criticize the society's problems with clear statements. Therefore, the formative characters are realism, exaggeration and coloring of the whole arts that represents as innovative and original genre of it's time. Hong-Do Kim and Youn-Bok Shin expressed the women in society as open minded with versatile and refined looks in their paintings as the reality was repressed and closed mind for women figures in late Joseon Dynasty. The female customs in the paintings has both suppression and expression in their dresses and exaggerated shapes of accessories and the use of color were also found. All of these elements has the aesthetic values of satirized eroticism, the hint of next evolution of the late Joseon Era under the conservative disposition of social characters and freedom of expression of playfulness. These elements were new developments and a step forward of female 'sex' and expression of satirized eroticism. The exaggerated and distorted forms and accessories demonstrates unbalanced and asymmetrical elements in humorous characters and they include spontaneity. Also, using the five traditional color schemes of Korean art displays humor in playfulness of an art with splendid and purity, duality of positiveness and artless, smart and elegance looks.

  • In modern society, the necessity of Color and Psychology Therapy is increasing for psychologically calm children who are less taken care by their parents in busy daily life, and helping them adapt to the environment. Therefore, we need to understand sensitivity status of children with paintings that they draw. Currently, most of empirical studies on their sensitivities are based on psychological and engineering perspectives. This study was designed to provide a system to extract psychological status of children from their pictures by distinguishing harmony of colors using information of solid colors and arrangement of colors in the image space. For achieving this research purpose, first of all, sensitivity database was constructed based on the image space of colors. Then, using the K-Means algorithm, the image was clustered and a wide amount of color values were divided into groups. After that, children's sensitivities were extracted by matching groups of color values with database, and color psychological status of children was observed using the color distribution chart in their paintings.

Field measurements and survey were performed in three galleries under various illuminance and luminous conditions. Result implies that vertical illuminance on art paintings needed to be somewhere between 200 lx and 300 lx to avoid visual discomfort. The vertical illuminance difference between consecutive paintings should not exceed 100 lx to keep visually comfortable environment. Visual comfort sensations were related to glare, visual stimulus, reflection from paintings, illuminance variation, and the sensation that subjects can clearly see the paintings. The sensation of fatigue was significantly influenced by the changes of luminous element that caused visual stimulus and discomfort. The sensation of eye fatigue among physical fatigue was primarily influenced by the glare, visual stimulus and comfort. The psychological fatigue was also influenced by eye fatigue, visual comfort, brightness and satisfaction with color of light.
