Colletotrichum acutatum, C. coccodes, C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides were detected in seed samples of red pepper (Capsicum annuum). C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides were the predominant species, maximum seed infection of the species in some samples were 84% and 28%, respectively. C. acutatum and C. coccodes were recorded only in low percentages of 1-2. The blotter method proved more suitable for detecting Colletotricum spp. than the deep freezing blotter or agar plate methods. Plating of seed components showed that C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides were recovered more frequently from seed coat, and decreasing amounts of infection were observed in the endosperm and cotyledon. Seed-borne C. dematium and C. gloeosporioides caused seed rot, damping-off, seedling blight and brown discoloration of cotyledon and hypocotyl when infected seeds were sown in agar of test tube or in soil. Inoculation experiments showed that C. acutatum was pathogenic to red fruit of red pepper and C. coccodes was highly pathogenic to red fruit and weakly pathogenic to leaf of the plant. C. dematium was highly pathogenic to leaf and green fruit and C. gloeosporioides was pathogenic to not only leaf but also green and red fruits. Host range of the four seed-borne species of Colletotrichum was also investigated.

In 1999 and 2002, 130 and 258 isolates of Colletotrichum spp. causing red pepper anthracnose were obtained from infected red pepper fruits, respectively. Their responses to 4 protective and 3 ergosterol biosynthesis-inhibiting(EBI) fungicides were investigated by observing their mycelial growth on PDA incorporated with different concentrations of each fungicide. The Colletotrichum isolates obtained in 1999 showed higher $EC_{50}$ values than those isolated in 2002 against three protective fungicides such as dithianon, chlorothalonil, and propineb, whereas the response was reversed toward other protective fungicide, iminoctadine. On the other hand, the isolates of year 1999 were more resistant against three EBI fungicides such as tebuconazole, hexaconazole, and prochloraz than those of year 2002; the $EC_{50}$ values of the former were 1.2-4.4 times higher than those of the latter, The responses of the Colletotrichum isolates toward protective and EBI fungicides were fluctuated according to regions, where the infected fruits were collected. On the other hand, the resis tance of Colletotrichum isolates to protective fungicides increased during monitoring from July to September, However, their responses towards EBI fungicides were not changed.
Apple grower in the Cheongsong region, Korea has reported the increased loss of apple yield due to severe bitter rot incidence. We noticed that this indience is because the Colletotrichum population has developed resistance to commonly used fungicides. We isolated 39 Colletotrichum isolates from 13 orchards in Cheongsong, and all the isolated Colletotrichum species were identified as C. siamense or C. fructicola. These 39 strains were tested for mycelial growth and conidial germination against 12 fungicides. trifloxystrobin (30-55% in recommended concentrations) was shown lower inhibitory effect on mycelial growth. However, the inhibition of conidial germination was shown higher than mycelial growth (62-100%). Kresoxim-methyl was shown lower inhibitory effect on mycelial growth (29-55%). conidial germination inhibitory effect was shown 51% to 96%. dithianon was shown diversity response to inhibition of mycelial growth (43-100%). Tebuconazole was shown high inhibitory effect on mycelial growth (84-100%) and conidial germination inhibitory effect was shown to be 64 to 100%. metconazole has been found to display with high inhibitory effect on mycelial growth (79-100%) and conidial germination (70-80%). fluazinam was shown to possess high inhibitory effect on mycelial growth (87-100%) and conidial germination (94-100%). This study provides basic information for the effective management of apple bitter rot.

This study was carried out to investigate control efficacy of natural compound, TGR-N1 against turfgrass fungal diseases. TGR-N1 showed antimicrobial activity in vitro. Rhizoctonia solani AG 1-1, Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Sclerotinia homoeocarpa and Colletotrichum graminicola were inhibited by 500 times and 1,000 times of diluents of TGR-N1. Pythium spp. was not inhibited by the same diluents of TGR-N1. The TGR-N1 also showed a remarkable antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani AG 1-1, Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2 in field. This study proved the antifungal activity of natural compound, TGR-N1 and showed its potential as a natural pesticide.
In August 2020, 377 anthracnose strains were isolated from anthracnose-infected peppers collected from 25 farms in Sunchang-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Inhibition rate of mycelial growth of 11 pepper anthracnose fungicides registered in Korea was investigated for 62 strains selected by region and the degree of susceptibility to each fungicide was investigated. As a result of the fungicide susceptibility test of anthracnose to the fungicide, no resistant strains were observed in fluazinam, prochloraz manganese, and benomyl, but resistant strains appeared in at least three areas for other fungicides, and all strains in all regions were resistant to dithianon. Through this, it was confirmed that the fungicide resistance was expressed in the strain group due to the continuous treatment of the fungicide in some areas. By region, resistant strains to seven pesticides appeared in Sunchang-eup and Paldeok-myeon, and resistant strains to six pesticides appeared in Geumgwa-myeon, Bokheung-myeon, Ssangchi-myeon, Yudeung-myeon, and Pungsan-myeon. There was no significant correlation between fungicide registration time and emergence of resistant strains.

Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp. is a major disease of strawberry plants worldwide. The anthracnose of strawberries in Korea has occurred in most cultivated strawberry varieties since its first report in 1990. Although many studies and efforts have been made to control the disease, anthracnose continues to affect strawberry yields in Korea. In this review, we introduced various management methods to control anthracnose in strawberries, such as identifying pathogens and environmental factors involved in this disease, understanding the importance of latent infection, and developing diagnostic techniques and control methods. Through this review, we propose that researchers can elucidate a comprehensive and practical approach to control anthracnose by understanding this disease and developing strategies to prevent its spread, ultimately benefiting strawberry farmers.
Monitoring for the sensitivity of Colletotrichum spp. causing red-pepper anthracnose to chlorothalonil was conducted by the agar dilution method, which were isolated from infected pepper fruits in 1999 and 2002. Among the isolates in 1999 or 2002, their sensitivity to fungicide was fluctuated. Investigating the inhibitory effect of $500{\mu}g/m\ell$ of chlorothalonil on the mycelial growth of Colletotrichum isolates isolated from the infected red-pepper fruits in 1999, the frequency of isolates was 23.4%, which showed 100% of inhibitory effect on mycelial growth, and 29.7% showing below 60%. Isolates in 2002, however, showed 34.6% and 14.8% of inhibitory effect on PDAs including the same concentration of fungicide, respectively, These results showed that the sensitivity of Colletotrichum isolates in 1999 was inferior to that in 2002. According to the sampling region, isolation frequency among isolates in 2002 showing less MIC rather than 1999 was increased in Kyunggi, Kangwon, Kyungbuk and Kyungnam while the frequency of resistant isolates was done in Chungnam, Chungbuk, Cheonnam and Cheonbuk Fungicide monitoring results in this report will be of use on controlling the anthracnose in each region cultivating red-pepper.

Here, we reported 159 varieties of major cultivars using grapevine genetic resources to identify the resistant grape ripe rot cultivars. To do this, we performed pathogenicity assays from these grape cultivars by inoculating Colletotrichum acutatum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Genotyping-by-sequencing(GBS) method was also used to compare genetic diversity among grape varieties. As a result, leaves inoculated with C. acutatum showed that 58 cultivars were susceptible, while 17 cultivars were resistant. In the case of C. gloeosporioides, 34 cultivars were found to be susceptible, while 25 cultivars were resistant. The 8 cultivars that showed resistance to both species were 'Agawan', 'Huangguan', 'Xiangfei', and 5 other cultivars from the hybrids of European and American species. Most of the varieties such as 'Emerald Seedless', 'Tano Red', and 'Rem 46-77(Aestivalis GVIT 0970)' originated in European species were identified as susceptible. These results can be used in the effective management of grape disease. In addition, these findings provide information for the development and cultivation of resistant to grape ripe rot disease cultivars.
Alternaria tenuis, Arthrobotrytis sp., Aspergillus spp., Cephalosporium sp., Cladosporium sp., Cylindrocarpon sp., Fusarium equiseti, F. moniliforme, F. semitectum, F. solani, Penicillium spp., Rhizopus sp. were saprophytic fungi and Cercospora kikuchii, Colletotrichum truncatum, Diaporthe phaseolorum var. sojae and Fusarium oxysporum were pathogenic fungi detected from 14 seed samples of soybean. Initial symptoms caused by C. kikuchii, C. truncatum, D. phaseolorum sojae and F. oxysporum on seedlings from naturally infected seed by the test tube agar method have been described and discussed. Soybean seeds infected with C. truncatum, D. phaseolorum sojae and F. oxysporum reduced germination of seeds and have influenced on the growth of soybean seedling caused by C. kikuchii. Surface-sterilized soybean seedlings became diseased in the test tube agar artificially inoculated with C. kikuchii, C. truncatum and D. phaseolorum sojae isolated from naturally infected soybean seeds. F. oxysporum showed very weak pathogenicity. Seed disinfectants of Benlate-T, Homai, Tecto and Sisthane have effective to C. kikuchii, C. truncatum, D. phaseolorum sojae and F. oxysporum. Arasan, Captan, Busan-30 and Mercron were inferior to C. kikuchii but effective against others. Seed disinfectants treated in this experiment have increased seed germination campared with non-treatment.

More than 1200 microorganisms were isolated from soil samples collected from various sources and localities. Among the isolates, 2 actinomyces (TH-04 and BA313) and 1 Bacillus sp. (CJ3) were selected as antagonists to pepper anthracnose fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. These 3 isolates inhibitied mycelial growth of C gloeosporioides and the inhibition rates were over 70% on PDA. When the isolates were co-cultured with conidia of C. gloeosporioides in potato dextrose broth, conidial germination was severely inhibited and the inhibition rates of TH-04, BA313, and CJ3 at 24 hours were 75%, 72%, and 68%, respectively. The inhibition rates at n hours incubation were not much different from the rates at 24 hours. To check the activity on the plant, each isolate was mixed with equal volume of conidial suspension of C. gloeosporioides and wound-inoculated on green pepper fruit. After 6 days, the anthracnose lesions on the fruits inoculated with the mixture were much smaller than the lesions caused by the C. gloeosporioides itself. The lesion areas of TH-04 or BA313 treated pepper were less than 30% of the check. TH-04 and BA313 also showed antagonistic activity to Phytophthora spp. and Botrytis cinerea. By scanning electron microscopy and fatty acid analyses (MIDI), TH-04 and BA313 were identified to Streptomyces halstedii and S. violaceusniger, repectively.
