  • This study investigated the relationships between stress-coping strategies and the mental health of college students from health related and non-health related departments by developing an efficient managerial indicator using student lifestyle guidance and employment guidance. Results indicated that there are differences in stress factors between general characteristics and departments. Hope management was used the most for stress-coping strategies for health related departmental students and emotional management was used the most for stress-coping strategies for non-health related departmental students. Compulsion scored high for health related departmental students in regards to mental health while fear and hostility scored high for non-health related departmental students. Results also showed that active stress-coping strategies and paranoia were negatively correlated, while passive stress-coping strategies and many mental health substructure were positively correlated. In conclusion, negative influences on mental health is the reason for instances where stress-coping strategies were not pertinent. Therefore colleges and professors should consider developing a program which can appropriately manage and regulate college students stress and thereby allow students to actively participate with benefits from college lifestyle guidance and employment guidance.

  • The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of nursing students interest in health matters concerning themselves and compare it to non-nursing students. The results were to be categorized and used as health content recommendation when organizing health curriculum and planning health education programmes. The instruments used this study were 'The Health Inventory and The Health Need Inventory introduced to 80 items from 125 items by Lee in Korea(1980). There was a very high correlation between the 125 items and condensed 80 items (r=0.9508, t=11.0643. p<.001). The convenience sample was chosen from 226 nursing students and 204 non-nursing students in the departments of humanities of college in Inchun and Ansan from March 4 to April 5. 1996. Data were analyzed by the SAS computer Program. The results are as follow: When comparing health interest of nursing student group with non-nursing student group, total group mean of nursing students was significantly higher than that of non-nursing students (t=2.977 p<.01). But the rank order of the nursing student group was similar to that of the non-nursing group. and what nursing student felt interested was coincident with what non-nursing students felt as being necessary. The most interested health area between nursing student and non-nursing students were ${\ulcorner$personal hygiene & grooming${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$weight control${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner$sex education${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$mental health${\lrcorner}$. On the other hand the least interested health areas were. ${\ulcorner$smoking and health${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$alcohol and health${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner$drug and narcotics${\lrcorner}$ In non -nursing students but in nursing students ${\ulcorner$structure and function of body${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner$dental health${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$safety${\lrcorner}$. Comparing students health interest by major In college, total group mean of nursing students is significantly higher than that of non-nursing students in 14 health areas including ${\ulcorner$community health${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner$control and prevention disease${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$consumer health${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$family health${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$mental health${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$personal hygiene and grooming${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$safety${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$structure and function of body${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner$sex education${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$alcohol and health ${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner$ drug and narcotics${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner$smoking and health${\lrcorner}$ The following recommendations could be made considering the above mentioned factors: 1. The priority of health content should reflect the items to the highest interest area of students and highest need area of adults. 2. The health items which were significantly different in the area of health interest, by major, should be used in planning health education programmes and organizing health curricula.

Methods: The survey sample consisted of 262 randomly selected students. 197 of them are public health-related students and 65 are non-public health-related students. The questionnaires used in this study consisted of 4 items for general information, oral health status of 2 items, 5 items for Oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care of 5 items. Collected data were analyzed by Frequency Analysis t-test and Crosstabs using SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Win 19.0 statistics program. Results: Regarding general characteristics of the subjects, there were 53.8% of first-year student, 26.0% of second-year student and 20.2% of third-year student among 52.3% of males and 47.7% of females. The subjects received less than "100,000" won(13.0%), "100,000-190,000" won (5.0%), "200,000-290,000" won(30.9%), "300,000-390,000" won (33.2%) and more than "400,000" won(17.9%) a month for an allowance. The subjects had 'none' (44.3%), '1'(6.5%), '2'(12.6%), '3'(5.0%), '4'(5.3%), 'more than' 5(0.8%) of dental caries and 'do not know' were 25.6%. The numbers of dental prosthetics were 'no' (35.5%), '1'(13.7%), '2'(17.2%), '3'(10.3%), '4'(11.5%), and 'more than 5'(11.8%). The public health students(84.8%) had a higher positive response rate than the non-public health students(66.2%). The public health students(80.2%) had a higher negative response rate than the non-public health students(78.5%) in the result of onset of gum disease pain awareness. The non-public health students(65.5%) had a higher negative response rate than the public health students(68.3%)) in the result of heredity of gum disease. The t-test showed that public health-related department students(M=8.264, SD=0.821) had more knowledge about oral hygiene than non-public health-related department students(M=8.015, SD=1.082). 'do not use' in the oral care products except toothpaste and toothbrush showed that public health-related department students(60.4%) use the products more than non-public health-related department students(66.2%). Conclusion: In this study, public health-related department students had higher oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care compared to non-public health-related students, but low in practical action. Due to the lower level of dental care products use in non-public health-related department, a continuous oral care education program is required.

  • There are several dimensions of academic burnout experienced by medical and health science college students. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of academic relationships on academic burnout. Data was collected from 476 Eulji University students using an online survey over 4 days in April of 2018. Of the 264 respondents, 111 studied medicine (42.0%), 105 studied nursing (39.8%), and 48 studied clinical pathology (18.1%). The questionnaire was composed of the following sections: demographics (four questions), general life characteristics (seven questions), academic enthusiasm (eight questions), academic relationships (15 questions), and academic burnout sub-dimensions (partially revised Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey Scale) (11 questions). T-tests and one-way analysis of variance were performed to illustrate the differences among the three departments. The effects of academic relationships and academic enthusiasm on academic burnout were analyzed using linear regression. Comparing the three departments, academic burnout was not found to be statistically significant (p=0.296). However, medical students' academic enthusiasm was significantly lower (p<0.001) and academic relationships were significantly higher (p<0.001) than nursing and clinical pathology students. The difference in academic burnout among the three departments was not significant. However, medical students have stronger academic relationships, while nursing and clinical pathology students were more focused on academics. Relationships and academic enthusiasm contribute to reducing academic burnout. Therefore, strategies need to be developed to deal with academic burnout considering relationship factors.

  • In spite of many studies of The Korean Association of College of Pharmacy for improvement of the Korean pharmacy education and decrearing to change 4 year curriculum for pharmacy education to 6year curriculum from 1998 by The Ministry of Health and Wellfaire, there are many problems right now in view of the student-oriented education in front of the revolution program of The Ministry of Education. So the student-oriented reformation for pharmacy education in Korea was studied not only by observations of worldwide pharmacy education and pharmacy system, but also by 416 questionaires from many kinds of man and women such as pharmacists in drug store and hospital(159), administraters of The Ministry of Health and Wellfaire (59), professors in college of pharmacy (65), researchers in pharmaceutical company (31) and seniors in college of pharmacy(102).It shows that our Korean pharmacy education was a type of teacher-oriented education which is caused by the short time-education, a lots of subjects in the examination for pharmacy license and egoism of professors for their subjects, and so our teacher-oriented education have to change to the student-oriented education for the most function of pharmacist which is the pharmaceutical care for patients. For the preparing the clerkship/externship for one year, we have to change 4 year curriculum to 6 year curriculum for clinical pharmacy edu-cation, and also subjects of pharmacy in the national examination for pharmacy liciense have to reduce within 3-4 subjects of totally non-subject examination. The Korean Association of Collage of Pharmacy of Pan-pharmaceutical Revolution Association must purchase them and their program can be begun right now in spite of loss of the pharmacist supplement for 2 year and preparing the program of 6 years curriculum. Our teaching purposes of departments of pharmacy and manufacturing pharmacy were respectively clinical pharmacy, and development of new drug and compounding of many kinds of commercial drugs, but we have been not gone to their goals, respectively, because of short time-education for pharmacy as compared as world-wide pharmacy education containing the clerkship/externship and same twelve subjects in their examination for pharmacy license. Most function of pharmacist in Korea are the development of new drug, and social and administrative pharmacy in health care for patients, and so we have to teach them in the department of maunfacturing pharmacy.
