  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to adjustment of college for nursing students and to develop a collective model for successful prediction and concrete paths of the factors. Methods: Data collection was conducted from May 19th 2010 to Jun 4th 2010. Five hundred thirty-one questionnaires were used for data analysis after distributing 560 sheets to senior students in 8 different locations. Data was analyzed with SPSS 18.0 Win program and AMOS 18.0. Results: Mother attachment does not have a direct effect on adjustment to college life but does effect psychological well-being and coping, which indirect adjustment to college life. In addition, the more psychological well-being and coping usage frequency, and the less stress of clinical practice, the higher score of adjustment to college life. According to the results, explanatory power of the model for the college nursing students' adjustment was 62.0%. Conclusions: To improve adjustment to college life, it is recommended to have a direct method of developing psychological well-being and coping improvement program to improve mother attachment. The research is meaningful in a sense that it explains the cause and effect relationship between adjustment to college life and relevant variables to predict comprehensive dimensional explanation of adjustment of college life for nursing students.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify levels of clinical practice stress and coping strategies according to the personality/behavior types of nursing students. Methods: The subjects of this study were 143 third- and fourth-grade nursing students in 14 nursing colleges who had experienced clinical practice. The questionnaire consisted of instruments to identify Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC) personality/behavior types, clinical stress, and stress coping strategies. The data were analyzed using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, descriptive statistics, and ANOVA, using the SPSS 24.0 program. Results: The DISC pattern showed high priority in Steadiness (48.3%), followed by Conscientiousness (21.0%), Influence (16.1%), and Dominance (14.7%), in that order. The steadiness type showed the lowest level of stress among four patterns. Conclusion: This study found that the personality/behavior types of nursing students differ. Additionally, different personality/behavior types can be attributed to stress levels and stress coping behaviors. Based on these results, different personality and behavior types of nursing students should be considered to manage their stress levels related to the clinical practicum experience.

In addition, the nursing activities which under 30% of students had performance experiences with were 87 items(45.55%). The nursing activities which over 70% of students had only observation experiences with were 20 items(10.47%). Also, the nursing activities that over 30% of students didn't have any experiences with were 19 items(9.95%) not frequently seen in the clinical setting. Conclusion: It is concluded that the students are not fully qualified as the new nurses of the future. Therefore, every effort to develop a more effective clinical nursing education in school, clinical settings and in students themselves is needed.

Methods: It is a pre-experimental study designed before and after a single group to verify the effect of flipped learning project-based learning on nursing students' self-directed learning ability, self-leadership, and academic self-efficacy in 81 third-grade nursing students. Results: No statistically significant difference in self-efficacy (t=-0.80, p=.545) but self-directed learning ability (t=-3.85, p<.001) and self-leadership (t=-5.18, p<.001) were found to have a statistically significant difference before and after. Conclusion: Flipped learning-type project-based learning was confirmed effective in improving nursing college students' self-directed learning ability and self-leadership. Therefore, instructors will need to develop and apply teaching methods that provide learners with opportunities for pre-learning and carry out learner-centered projects to improve nursing college students' self-directed learning ability and self-leadership.
